NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Fire the fucker into the sun. Not fit to wear a Broncos jersey anymore. He can't come back from this. We are wasting our time with this now.

On Haas, this has obviously been brewing since August last year when the Broncos attempted to sign him to an extension. The initial feeling was actually very positive from the club and it appeared he was set to sign until something happened at the 11th hour that Weidler had very good mail on. Fast forward to now and it's played out as expected.

I believe the missing information is that he's got a deal in front of him, he just can't say what. So he's spinning these stories to take the focus off of any potential suitors until they're in a position where they can announce Haas without it looking bad.

It's just a matter of how this will play out. I can't see Haas sticking around after 2024, but are the Broncos going to take him on his word about delivering on the field? How long will they carry him before they find a replacement that will make fans and sponsers happy? My best guess is that we'll see little of Haas at the Broncos during the Origin period, he may come back towards the end of the season and then the Broncos will make a big signing for 2023/24 and release Haas.

I don't think anything will change. The NRL media will reference it every once in a while but it'll just be used as theatre and in the end Haas will get his way. The world is your oyster when you've got talent and although it'll expose another flaw in the salary cap the NRL won't care. They've shifted from a 'everyone is competitive!' to a 'superstar' model in recent times, although the current crop of superstars aren't delivering.

Using the starving kids angle……maybe he wants the maccas card back.

next excuse.

Was this just a big advertisement for golf clubs??
LOL IKR!

I am extremely happy that the media is rallying against this.

But they need to go further. This is not about an agent trying to get the best deal for his client, this is an agent who is holding a club to ransom.

Draw a black line through them publicly, make it known their getting no new deals at Brisbane, if any of our current players use them other than Payne, advise them to swap.

Sometimes you gotta act like the best to be the best (again). If the club stands up to them over this antics, maybe others will and it will lead to positive change.

They were very reluctant to mention Khoder Nasser. He's a shrewd operator and happy to have Tyran Smith take the heat.

I think it’s a really interesting situation. Obviously he is a great player, probably the best prop in the game and it is great to have him BUT for our club specifically, we don’t really need him anymore so we can definitely paint him out or be the bad guy that he is and frame us as fighting for the system. Because it doesn’t matter to us specifically whether he stays or doesn’t anymore because we can now cover for his loss.

But what happens in the future when the Roosters come gunning for Ponga, Cobbo or Savage when they want to move on from Tedesco but these guys haven’t multi year deals? This opens an already opened can of worms as a free for all.

I hope the club also fights to have something in their favour in all contracts now too. We don’t want you anymore / you aren’t performing, we get to cut YOU free.

Pretty sure Haas is looking for between 1.3 and 1.5 million a season. There's a .couple of clubs that would go that high I'd guess . Above all else he'll want at least more than Fifita wrangled.

Which is an interesting situation. Fifita has been a disaster for the Titans, I’m not sure if anyone else would make that mistake again unless they are truly desperate aka Bulldogs and after SBW, would they really be behind this to another club?

I don't, @Sproj, in these contracts where clubs can just cut contracts it would also be unfair. These arrangements need to have an element of risk to them for clubs too. Performance is somewhat subjective and it would very much need to not be misused by clubs for when players have repeated injuries, for example.

The clubs and fans expect players to put their bodies on the line for the club and to do that the players also need some security. Otherwise, we may as well just go watch the local amateur team at the park.

I think both sides just need to respect the contract in its purest form. I play for the club, the club pays me. Realistically, the players need better, fairer representation when making these deals so that clubs don't take advantage of them as children. Following that, the players should have some education towards these decisions to make them maturely.

Realistically, there will always be predatory or unsavoury practices from both sides, especially when third parties (managers) are involved. Ideally, maybe, the NRL should think about having representation present during all negotiations to ensure that deals are made fairly and without any dodgy practices, but then you're trusting the NRL to be morally legitimate.

I probably worded it badly, I don’t like that the situation has come to this but clubs need to protect themselves.

meant to say: "I don't know*, @Sproj,..."

Not that the club should not have some securities too.

I agree with you on that. Maybe having player's union and NRL present to basically mediate contracts would even things out

So has Haas wanted to leave since his 'brother' was shipped off.

Haas’ stunning on-field appeal to keep Tevita at Broncos

Payne Haas really is doing everything he can to keep Tevita Pangai Jnr at Red Hill, taking an extraordinary mid-match step to save the Broncos career of his ‘brother’.

I don't care what Haas says anymore.

I just want him out of the team.
At first i wanted to see him play out his contract out of spite, but now i just want him gone.
This guy has overtaken Coates as my most hated RL player and if we can cut ties with him we should.
We should also ban any players from associating with Mundine and SBW and their management from here on out.

The disrespect this entitled wanker has shown the Broncos jersey should have every fan and past player seething and i would be more than happy if he never played for us again.

Lets clear up some cap space for more players like Reynolds who actually want to be here and play for the team and the fans.

I think this is the most likely scenario. He can’t stay long term but the club needs to make his exit as uncomfortable as possible without damage to themselves because of the message it sends - what happens now Katoni is back in form and made origin, does he get to just demand a pay rise or a release?

What about if we lock Mozer, Mam, or Cobbo into fair long term deals? Do they all just kick up a stink to get a massive upgrade or leave mid contract?

We also need to send a message to other clubs that it may not be worth poaching our players mid-season and I hope the broncos are doing all they can to uncover if any club has broken negotiation rules - which they almost definitely have but proving it is the issue.

I think its 90% driven by his new management, who don't get paid until Haas signs a new contract.
They would be pushing this, because its in their best interest to do so.

They don't want to wait till 2024 to get their hands on his money, so they are pushing every angle to try and get Payne off the books at the Broncos to sign a new deal.
The offer the Broncos have given Haas, and the extensive off field assistance have been more than fair and the only reason Haas is turning it down is because of his managements advice to do so.

I cant see the Roosters or any other team for that matter (except maybe the Tigers) offering more money than what Brisbane has put forward.

The roosters club will offer less but uncle nick will gift his daughter $300k a year.
