NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

It's the fans' game. Without the fans paying for merch, attending games, buying subscriptions to Fox/Kayo, participating in forums like BHQ etc. the game is nothing.

Without the fans it would be essentially a group of elite athletes playing a game of footy in their spare time while they do a normal 9 to 5 job to support themselves and their families.

Without the fans it's a simple game of footy down the park.

The way Haas has disrespected the Bronco fan base is extremely disappointing. I don't think anything he does from here on in will ever repair his relationship with many of Broncos' supporters. My mates in Sydney (Penrith & St. George) and my mate in Canberra (Raiders) all agree his management team are riding roughshod over the idea of binding contract and it needs to be stamped out.

His time playing for this great club is limited. It's even more limited depending on the outcome of the next few days negotiations. Regardless of the outcome, his name will always carry a stain in Brisbane and it is quickly looking like the rest of the NRL world too.

His mixed messages are obviously confusing but they're also conflicting

Any team paying a prop 1-1.2m a season isn't winning the comp, so if he wants to be in a side pushing for the premiership he's going to need to accept that it's not going to happen whilst he is earning that much

It's one or the other, for mine

Except the rorters...
$700k on the cap + $350k TPA with the Royal Bondi Golf Club = Endlessly stacked roster full of internationals

This whole fiasco makes me question the point of trying to lock down players on long contracts. I'm thinking now three years is absolute maximum, and then what they agree to is what they get paid. If either wants to break the contract it will come at a price.

This notion of trying to trap them at a club so they can't fly away, it doesn't work and doesn't make anyone happy.

360 last night said that everyone’s favourite player manager, Tyran Smith, is currently in Brisbane holding talks with the Broncos.

I could only imagine what he’d be saying to DD & Ikin. And imagine what those two would think of him (if that video is anything to go by) hahahahaha.

Payne really needs to have a good hard look at who he surrounds himself with if he wants any sort of legacy in rugby league.

The damage is done.
If he "re-signs" with us, i wont be happy about it.
I will accept it because i have no choice, and he is a gun player, but i wont cheer for him, and it will take a monumental effort every single game for the rest of his contract for me to change my mind on it.

If the news breaks that the club has released him tomorrow, i would be happier than if they come out and say he has re-signed.

In the NHL in America, there's some been some ripper long term deals that absolutely turned out to be horror shows

Where does this absolute myth come from that the Roosters are stacked with stars? It's out of date bullshit.

QLD Origin team: 4 Broncos, 1 Rooster
NSW Origin team: 2 Broncos, 3 Roosters (and 1 is a reserve)

So that's 6 Broncos in Origin, 4 Roosters.

Even Penrith only has 6 players in Origin. All for NSW.

That tends to happen when you have way more NSW teams to pick from.

It comes from the weekly team list

If I were the broncos, I would just say no, we are not interested.

When he got his previous upgrade, the broncos should have got more years out of him, now he is just taking the piss out of you guys. Thinking he has you over a barrell.

As soon as a player is bigger then a club, the club has a bunch of bad choices.

The sad thing about this is, similar to the bateman saga, is it takes away from the best run the broncos have had in about the last 5 years...

I think the question Ikin and Donuts should be asking themselves is: if we didn't have Payne, would we be entering the market with $1.2 million looking to spend it on an elite prop with a patchy behavioural record and a fairly limited attacking game.

I think we all know the answer to that.

That happens as @Midean pointed out because there are far more NSW teams to pick from, but also you need to take into consideration that many of the Rorters' players are Pacifika internationals and don't qualify for origin. Also Radley is out injured and Crichton missed out this year on form and if the Pacifikas were eligible for origin you'd have JWH, Manu, Taukeiaho, Naiqama, and Tupounuia all pushing for spots. So they have at least another six origin level players playing first grade which means they're able to pay elite wages to at least eleven of their top 30. Add Keary. Momorovski, Walker and Connor Watson's wages as they are also worth more than average and you begin to see how even when they 'are taking unders' they are finding it impossible to even register Crichton next year on their pretendy figures.

Realistically speaking, that leaves not a lot for the other 16.

Well they were internationals when they signed with them.

Happy now.
