NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

I think this is the most likely scenario. He can’t stay long term but the club needs to make his exit as uncomfortable as possible without damage to themselves because of the message it sends - what happens now Katoni is back in form and made origin, does he get to just demand a pay rise or a release?

What about if we lock Mozer, Mam, or Cobbo into fair long term deals? Do they all just kick up a stink to get a massive upgrade or leave mid contract?

We also need to send a message to other clubs that it may not be worth poaching our players mid-season and I hope the broncos are doing all they can to uncover if any club has broken negotiation rules - which they almost definitely have but proving it is the issue.
Maybe hard to prove but obviously where he ends up are the ones at fault.

Seeing both the free-to-air networks and Fox being in agreement that Haas and his management's shitfuckery is seriously harming our game is heartening. It's also great to see the NRL chip in and comment that negotiations should be done in private and not through the media. It's an obvious dig at Haas' management team although they could go further.

The fact we have concurrence across the board in our game is very rare indeed.

When our fans booed one of our own it was unprecedented but obvious the Aussie battler was also pissed off with the whole money-hungry shitshow.

Fittler spoke at the weekend and lamented the near loss of the tribalism in the game because of the numerous switching between clubs by players and how they keep up on social media.

I'm wondering if there are large elements of the NSW crowd who are also totally pissed off with what Haas and his management are doing to our game.

It would be glorious to hear the NSW supporter base boo Haas too in a show of solidarity towards players like Haas who think they are bigger than the game itself.

We all need to make a stand against this current situation otherwise our game is in serious danger of being immeasurably damaged.

I predict if Haas is allowed to walk all over the club and the NRL that there will be a significant number of supporters who will walk away from the game for good.

Financially, times are tough for a huge swathe of the Australian paying public. Seeing this amount of greed being rewarded will turn many fans away for good.

Haas' manager live feed.

Can't believe I trusted him when he said he doesn't......... cut any corners??

For the first time in living memory every media outlet in the universe is on the Broncos side..?

What a world we now live in.
6 on the trot, Jump on!

Side note, Patty Carrigan singing the praises of the Broncos on how/why he landed in an origin jersey. Now there’s a bloke!

It completely undermines every positive step the NRL has made in terms of inclusivity and how race/religion makes zero difference in terms of team sport and friendship if they use that.

Honestly, the boys run out every week and if you play well, you are wanted and accepted. Haas earns more than most of the others regardless of those factors. It would make no sense. It is 100% an individual problem and if you want to start assigning attributes based on these factors, Haas' off-field behaviour would then reflect negatively upon them.

This is precisely why I dislike indigenous round. If you want to differentiate people, you have to do it on a micro scale and then have "Filipino Round", "Lebanese Round", "British Round", "Convict round", etc. Because these minorities also play, also have suffered prejudice in some way or another and it still makes no difference.

You basically point out that these players, who every other day of the week are just one of the boys, are actually different to the others. That is just a total paradox.

Ugh, I REALLY hope we don't see the race/religion card.
That's an optimistic sentiment but the blunt reality is this community is not like the others, and rugby league is an outlier of excellence for them. Let them celebrate it, point at it, and maybe one day it won't be the only one.

You have to try to walk in their shoes on this one.

Yeah, I know, mate. It's a really conflicting issue for me, because it logically makes very little sense to me. I would much prefer they just said, right, all takings from this round go to indigenous Australians programs, or they play in regional areas for locals only, with workshops throughout the week leading up to it. It just seems like an excuse to sell a different jersey to me.

When I say "walk in their shoes" imagine if you have this base conditioning you are less than human, and that's reinforced by the dystopia of your community, and the interactions you have outside it. Seeing guys like Selwyn Cobbo celebrated as not just human, but superhuman, and being associated with your community, is a heck of a good start to unpicking that.

For me, realizing that almost all my favourite footballers were Aboriginal, without me having even twigged to it, was something of a lightbulb moment. It was good for me, too.

It's one thing to boo your own players at a game but if you boo or harass any player outside of a game, you're definitely worse than Haas.
This. Anyone who has a crack on the street, or messages a player on social media is an absolute scum bag.
Pretty sure Haas is looking for between 1.3 and 1.5 million a season. There's a .couple of clubs that would go that high I'd guess . Above all else he'll want at least more than Fifita wrangled.
Any club that pays him that much deserves to be kicked out of the comp. That's Cameron Smith money.

360 last night said that everyone’s favourite player manager, Tyran Smith, is currently in Brisbane holding talks with the Broncos.

I could only imagine what he’d be saying to DD & Ikin. And imagine what those two would think of him (if that video is anything to go by) hahahahaha.

Payne really needs to have a good hard look at who he surrounds himself with if he wants any sort of legacy in rugby league.

Reading a lot of anecdotes about how SBW's diva demands that backfired on everyone who tried to appease him.

I can see no reason why the club wants to extend Payne's contract now. Leave it the **** alone. Revisit it next year, or get rid of him now because he's trouble on the way. The onus is on him to prove his worth. It's not like they'll be getting him for a bargain. If another club wants to sign him for 1.2 million, they can have him.
