It is actually sad that he thinks what he is doing is ok and his inner circle support this kind of behaviour. Make no mistake, I’m not sympathising with him at all, he has no one to blame but himself. Even so, how can his inner circle support this kind of stupidity?

Even for them, only wanting money out of him of course, with every word he says, he just continues to look a fool and his off field value is dead.

Then again this is probably what the Roosters want. I just hope when he does gets his way, he is sacked and not released. I can’t stand the thought of us taking on any of his wage.

Regardless of whatever promises he’s received from those with claws, I just hope he doesn’t benefit from this long term but no doubt thanks to certain polite-as people, he will.

I hope the toxicity and stupidity of him and Smith bring down that club even though they probably want. Now if they can get Fifita as well, well maybe.

look at who his inner circle are (i.e. Mundine and $BW) ... they've pulled similar stunts themselves, clearly they didn't learn from them

There were initial concerns his contract spat may cost him his place in the side but Fittler stuck solid and Haas wants to repay the loyalty.

“If he didn’t chose me I would have understood why,” Haas said.

“He has now and I am here now. I am humbled that Freddie put his faith in me. Freddie is a good dude and he is easy to talk to.”

I love how close he gets to an insightful thought only to not quite understand the point.

“what I’m going through is nothing compared to people who lose their houses or are struggling to put food on the table”

Instead of the obvious take away from this sentiment - that plenty of people have real financial stress and maybe you shouldn’t be foregoing all integrity to turn your 900k a year deal into. $1m a year deal. Payne instead stops just short of this realisation, instead his take away is “these are real problems so I shouldn’t care about people saying negative things about me”,

There’s no negative blow back on this. Look at SBW, after his dastardly deeds to the bulldogs (who’ve not won anything since he did) he was welcomed and lauded a returning hero. They had pre recorded interviews showing in his return game ffs and did they mike him up? It was disgusting.
I will never understand how rugby league bent over and let SBW disgrace them - and loved him for it.

Unfortunately for Payne he’s not as ridiculously good looking as SBW so I don’t think he’s gonna get as much butt kisssing. However maybe if he went and became a heavy weight champion of the world…..

Well said and totally agree. Adding to this Haas will not get the same reception as SBW because as good as he is he is not become one of the best in another code good and in saying that SBW did a lot of time out of game and got those achievements before he was welcomed back. If he had to leave the game like SBW there is no way Haas goes on to play Union or anything like that, it would be Super League or nothing.

That was one of the most ridiculous things Channel 9 has ever done. We got SBW's inner monologue which were cued up as soon as he came onto the field. It was such an obvious PR ploy to frame him as the prodigal son instead of just owning that SBW was the most controversial figure in the game.

It's pretty clear to me that the Roosters have tremendous sway with Channel 9 and they'll always be presented favourably. I still remember when they had the audacity to gaslight the audience when Dylan Napa broke Korbin Sims' jaw and it was somehow Sims' fault.

It all goes back to Super League really. Teams like Sydney and Newcastle were key for 9 so they've been treated favourably ever since. It's why the Footy Show was basically a Newcastle love-in for all those years and Joey Johns was the greatest player of all-time and just so far above anyone that you shouldn't even bother to argue.
