NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Don't discount the possibility of ARey extending. If he's still going good at the end of his current contract he will still only be 33-34....
His hammy/groin issue not certain to be ready for the Raiders... NRL is a brutal sport and the body just doesn't recover as well when you get older (maybe early to mid 20's for the NRL)

For Arey the 3 year deal was a good bet for the Broncos I think, maybe a 1 yr extension if he survives year 2 and 3 of the contract.. Tom Brady can play into his 40's as he can be sheltered to some extent in the NFL, harder to do that in the NRL I think as you have to defend.

And who on this planet would swap Munster for Haas? I mean, come on! Just typing that out without laughing was difficult.
It's based on the obvious observation that Melbourne are losing a bunch of forwards to Redcliffe, so there's merit in the speculation. But Melbourne aren't known for pissing excess cap away on a moneygrabber like Payne. But Munster is the last player they'd be looking to offload.

Because of the ridiculous amount Payne is demanding there are very few players we could swap him for, and those players, by definition, would be the most valued at their respective clubs. Even in the scenario of cap shedding - the way we got Folau - we're not going to get a marquee player from another club. Simply because they won't have that kind of money to blow on a prop.

The only club who'll want Payne is a side with their spine already in place looking to fortify their pack to go with it.

Am I reading about a swap with Melbourne......Cam Munster for Payne Haas?

I'd go with that in a heart beat.

That would be speculation that any mug who was following signings could think up.

Melbourne are losing some key forwards to other clubs and haven't really got anyone in line to replace them, then there's Cam Munster wanting a bigger deal than what they're prepared to give.

I don't think Melbourne would be foolish enough to spend that sort of coin on a prop.

Seriously, happy to see him go to whoever will take the arrogant, sexist, precious (shoe skuff) egotistical dude (sexist character test - quote - "whot? you think 'cause your a woman I won't smash you too?- that says a lot about him as a person IMHO.- Especially considering he follows the Koran. Disgrace to the belief of being Muslim by definition be honest.), money-grabber. It seems he thinks he's bigger than the game and certainly the Broncos club ... (yes, admittedly- prob his mum and select others/agents/SBW driving the money lust trail). Really non-broncos like, ultimatums to the club- you must make finals etc.. Upsets me. **** him. **** him off. Give me Hetho, Flegs, Patty, Palasia, future young guns & our awesome Kiwi contingent... Don't much give a **** about post-contact meters TBH. Give me a hard-ass team player, with a quick play the ball and perhaps an offload-yes, this season Payne, not overall! Yeah sure he is a freak of nature athlete, good on him, jog on, on ya bike douch bag.

so now Haas wants to have all alcohol and betting sponsors removed from his jersey (as SBW once did).

he hasn't made the request to NSW for this series, but plans to raise it with us and the blues at some point

Haas says:

“There is going to be a time when I’m going to align with it and I want to be a leader for Islam and for Muslims,” Haas told the Herald.

“Hopefully I can do that one day, inshallah, God willing and can be at the forefront of that, the way Sonny is at the moment.

“Obviously I want to help people. I’ve seen it happen to them with that kind of stuff [alcohol and drugs], destroying people’s lives and families. I won’t shy away from that, I’ve seen it happen to some friends and family members. It’s something I’m pretty passionate about.

“If I get everything in order in my life, I want to be a leader in that way as well.”

SBW and Australian cricketer Fawad Ahmed is another sports star who was granted a request to have beer sponsorship removed from his uniform on religious grounds.

Haas Again

“Where they are at in their lives, they have gone with Islam,” Haas said. “At the end of the day, I want to end up like them as my faith keeps continuing and as I grow as a Muslim.

“For Sonny and all of them, they’ve probably seen it happen to their families and friends. They have wanted to lead by example to fellow Muslims - not only Muslims but everyone.

“I think everyone is pretty understanding, which is good. Everyone has their own beliefs and if everyone respects that, it will be good for everyone.

“I know [sponsors] come in with a lot of money, but it’s just more about helping people. If I can help just one person out, save them from that kind of lifestyle, then I’m doing my job.”

The sooner he goes, the better for everyone. God knows what goes on in his head. He is a dead set liability off the field. He needs to look for a club in Afghanistan.

You can help just one person Payne, you can help me. All you have to do is shut the **** and never play for my team again. Thanks in advance.

But is this not the same guy that has had several alcohol related off field incidents?

He wants to be a leader in the community but threatens to hit female cops?

The hypocrisy that spews forth everytime this dumbass opens his mouth is comical.

There's a beer brewery next door to Suncorp, I guess you can't play there anymore Payne

I'm somewhat at a loss this morning.

On the one hand, I absolutely hate the hold the betting agencies have on our game. For example, ch9 will cross to some boofhead bookie right in the middle of their show to get the latest odds on games. This blatant promotion of betting agencies disguised as part of the show is immoral. On the other hand, I know it's partly their sponsorship dollars that pay part of our players' wages.

So, we need to legislate to have them banned just like we did with tobacco companies. Don't forget, it used to be called the "Winfield Cup" not so long ago. So it can be done.

However, I don't mind a a few reds on the weekend so I can put up with alcohol sponsorship. And this is the problem, I'm happy to see one but not the other be removed from the game's profile.

Both cause untold misery in our society when they are abused. What right do I have to call for the banning of one while turning a blind eye to the other?

You can ban both and still enjoy them in your personal life.

It’s not hypocritical to have the odd punt but think it shouldn’t be advertised to the extent that it is.

The difference is one is a choice as an adult with free will. The other is a multi billion dollar industry praying on addictive tendencies of human nature.

Look @theshed I think both are dangerously destructive when they are abused. But where I see a slight difference is the alcohol sponsorship is far less "in your face" and constantly 'forced' on your psych be embedded placement in shows. Sure the booze is less obtrusive and may well be just as damaging, but I don't feel the booze industry is invited into my living room every game day to spruik their product by spokspeople dressed up as part of the show.

That's the most damning aspect of it all. It is so in your face and targets all age groups watching the show. Even the Sunday footy show as a betting segment. I deliberately have the show on delay when watching it with my two nephews so I can fast forward past the blood suckers.

I get what your saying but kids watch footy religiously and idolise the players. Games are broken up with add breaks with groups of men having a great time together with beers in their hands. Their favourite players have beer brands plastered on them. All the adults at the game are sinking piss with alcohol brands plastered on their fan gear. The winning team is shown showering each other with beer in celebration. Mad Mondays get publicised and all their favourite players are getting sloshed. Fox league talk shows endlessly make jokes about getting on it.

Any kid who loves footy grows up with it being strongly intertwined with drinking. I definitely am one to over indulge so I’m not being a prude. We just can’t pretend that it isn’t having a strong impact on perpetuating Australia’s drinking culture.

Look at Ronaldo who made them remove the coke bottles from his press conference and told kids to drink water. That’s a real role model.

Surely the health and fitness industry is big enough to take over sponsorships if alcohol advertisement gets pulled.

I’m definitely more concerned about the gambling than the grog though.

Me too. I'd love to see those twats removed from the embedded spot they currently have in the free-to-air footy shows as a start.
