NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Funny, just as I was about to shitpost, I got a random text message from "premium tips".

Definitely agree gambling is far too in your face. Bring back big Tommy Waterhouse I say.

If he doesn't want to take part in the advertising of gambling and alcohol, that's his right.

Who cares? This is a non-issue.

not when he takes the massive pay cheque ... much of which comes from sponsors.

it is his right not to accept a personal TPA from a betting or alcohol company.

I'm firmly in the "please leave as soon as possible" camp. I would pretty much bet my house on BI & DD knowing he needs to be gone at the end of the season if not before. The guys running our club are too smart to let this idiot derail our club any more than he already has.

I imagine this is all part of trying to get an earlier release. If he keeps on saying stuff that is not in line in the club, he is hoping to get dismissed sooner than later. This just shows him and his team's stupidity though. No club is going to release you because of your religious views, it is illegal.

And even if they do release him, he's not exactly making himself attractive to other clubs...

My kids know more about gambling than I do because of the adds.

I remember when they were discussing banning cigarette advertising and the old men yelling at clouds "BUT WHERE WILL THE MONEY COME FROM" It always comes. Gambling is a blight on society and I would love the advertising to roll back even further. At least the comentators aren't allowed to tell you the odds during the run of play like they were doing for a while there. I don't necessarily want gambling banned though, it has it's place. But It should not be seen as the only way to enjoy watching your sports.

Edit: Not a reason for Haas to leave the club though. This is clearly agitating the sponsors for a release. I say hold firm.

I dunno. Exclaiming fit in or **** off to a Muslim for pushing back on promoting gambling and alcohol is a bit loaded..
No, **** him. He is fine to say Rugby League is all about business.... right up until it's about religion.

Business is about making money, and sponsorship provides a fair chunk of that money. Without that money his career does not exist. Sure gambling and alcohol aren't exactly the healthiest things to get hooked on but nobody is forcing you or your children to partake.

People need to start being responsible for their own health, well-being and behaviour and not try blame their choice's on some corporate entity.

Circling back to Haas, if he feels that strongly then he needs to give it up all together. what's next? refusing to tackle any player with betting sponsorship because his "god" might view it as a cuddle and a show of love .

The guy is a clown.

So he wants billions of dollars but doesn’t want the advertisements that bring in said squillions of dollars. He wants his cake and eat it too and then another piece but hold the cake.

It's no better than wanting 1.2m a season as a prop and being in a team pushing for a premiership, the 2 cancel each other out

Its about consequences for your actions or decisions that you personally make.

A bit like non-vaxxers complaining that they can't go somewhere or do something because they aren't vaxxed. It was your decision not to....so live with the consequences.

You wanna make a stand against alcohol and gambling.....then I suggest you play another sport Payne, because the NRL are heavily sponsored by alcohol and gambling and that aint gonna change....just because you wanna play for a while at being a wannabe Muslim.

If everyone just learned how to do matched betting, the betting industry wouldn't be advertising so heavily, that's for sure.

Because they partially pay his massive wage, one that he wants to increase.
I'm with you inasmuch as he should have the right to not have the sponsorship on his kit, but he has to take a paycut for that decision.

Even when he takes a massive pay cheque. We can't aspire to be an inclusive game and then draw the line when it comes to religious beliefs such as this. It's a tad bit hypocritical.

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean he doesn't have that right. I don't see why this bothers people, anyway. He doesn't want to take part in the advertising, it's hardly a big deal. It doesn't affect anything.

I think it's about then society too, the "aussie way" is to have a beer, have a punt, etc

We obviously respect people from where ever they come from or whatever they believe in but you can't walk into a society and make demands that go against the normal, at that point you start to rub people the wrong way
