Pearson - What Took So Long?

That's what no media training and unfiltered joy looks like.

Come next year he'll have "good team performance, taking it one week at a time" etc down pat

Yep, a credit to the boys

[h=1]Jharal Yow Yeh says Jonus Pearson can play Origin and Test football[/h]
FORMER Maroons flyer Jharal Yow Yeh says Jonus Pearson is on the path to NRL stardom, declaring the Broncos ace will light up the code as an Origin and Test winger.

The Broncos unveiled their latest wing sensation on Friday night, with Pearson celebrating a dream debut with a two-try haul in Brisbane’s 38-16 thrashing of the Eels.
Called up on game day to replace the injured Lachlan Maranta, Pearson showed cool-headed class at Suncorp Stadium. The 21-year-old scored Brisbane’s opening try with just his second touch before emphatically burying the Eels when he barged over 14 minutes from time.
The Redcliffe speedster with Torres Strait Islander blood finished with 78 metres, two tackle breaks and two line-breaks, turning up the heat on Maranta in the battle for backline berths.
Broncos enforcer Sam Thaiday has compared Pearson to Yow Yeh, the former Brisbane right-wing whiz-kid who believes the Yeppoon product will be a representative star.

“Jonus can be anything,” said Yow Yeh, who was tragically forced to retire in 2014 after a shocking ankle injury cut short his Broncos career at age 24.
“I know people are saying Jonus is a similar footy player to me but he’s ready to write his own story.
“I can see him being Jonus Pearson the State of Origin and Australian winger, that’s what I believe he can achieve.
“What we saw out there (against the Eels) is just a taste of what’s to come.”
Pearson, who has scored 12 tries in 18 games this year for feeder-club Redcliffe, possesses the raw speed that made Yow Yeh a tryscoring machine on Brisbane’s right flank.
When he first joined the Broncos, Pearson stunned coaching staff with his results in speed and strength testing. At 95kg, he produced a sizzling 40-metre sprint that still ranks among the fastest testing times in Broncos history.

“I’ve been waiting for him for a while to shoot into the NRL,” Yow Yeh said. “I thought he did everything right, from being safe under the high ball to doing his scoots — he didn’t have an error in him.
“For Jonus to make his debut at 21 years old in that famous Broncos jersey ... guys like Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuqiri have been on the wing and he upheld that legacy.
“Jonus brought a bit of X-factor to our team and he will only grow from here.”
Yow Yeh spoke to Pearson before the game to calm his nerves and the Broncos rookie later revelled in his big night out.
“It was unbelievable just going out there. For me, I couldn’t imagine it,” he said.
“I didn’t think I’d have that opportunity (this year). Playing for the Redcliffe Dolphins, I thought I’d be there for the whole season.
“When I was a little boy … this was a dream come true for me to come out and play NRL for the Broncos. It’s an honour.”

How many times did he pop the lid on the bottle? Haha.

He was nervous as ****, but I don't blame him.

I wouldn't be able to say a fucking word.. I would probably crawl into a ball and cry.

That interview was my favourite part of the night!! He was sooooo jacked up, he was still pinching himself that he was even there, let alone two tries...and then to be interviewed by Locky....lol poor kid, he'll never live that down ahaha!! It was soo good to see, I love that sort of stuff. Blatant wide open emotion is so rare in life these days, it truly is a glorious thing.

Onya Jonus!! Hope to see you a hell of a lot more!!!

I like this kid so much.

His second try is what you want from wingers; speed strength and agility.

Maranta would have not scored that. Enough said. Leave him in there

I forgot to comment on this thread because I watched the game on replay at like 4am the next morning..

Was I the only one who felt like I was watching the debut of a really good player? Without putting too much expectation on him too early, it honestly felt like I was watching Jharal on debut, big, fast, strong, skillful.

What I hope is that Lockyer starts coaching Milf and Hunt on their bombs close to the line, so we can see pearson under the high ball and scoring like Jharal.

Perfectly made to be a winger in my opinion, maybe needs to work on his defence but that is about it. Definitely worse the risk over Maranta or Eden.

Yeah I'm glad someone else thought this because I thought the exact same thing. He just looked right at home in top grade straight away. Probably sounds stupid, but right down to the awkward interview it just had that feel about it. Like you can see him on the footy show before his Australian debut with them ribbing him about it.

Even for Oates, he showed that he can catch an attacking bomb against the Eels.

He's quick too apparently! Add Kahu and we have a seriously fast backline

[h=1]Jharal Yow Yeh fears that Brisbane could lose promising winger Jonus Pearson[/h]
FORMER Origin star Jharal Yow Yeh fears Brisbane’s backline stocks could see boom winger Jonus Pearson lost to the Broncos.

Hailed the next Yow Yeh, Pearson emerged as Brisbane’s next backline star after scoring two tries in a superb debut on the right wing against Parramatta last Friday night.
But despite his sizzling entry to the NRL, Pearson was dropped for the clash against the Bulldogs to accommodate Jordan Kahu’s return from injury.
At full strength, Brisbane’s three-quarter line comprises Kahu, Corey Oates, Jack Reed and James Roberts, while Tom Opacic and Lachlan Maranta are also in the mix.
That leaves Pearson a fair way down Brisbane’s backline pecking order. The 21-year-old is contracted to the Broncos until the end of next season and Yow Yeh urged Brisbane to prevent Pearson being poached by NRL rivals.

“Because we have so many good wingers coming through like Jordan Kahu and Corey Oates, what happens if Jonus doesn’t break through?” said Yow Yeh, the former Broncos wing sensation.
“We may lose him to another club.
“It’s a bit scary to think it could happen. It would be a real shame if the Broncos lost him because he will be a star in the game.”
Brisbane blooded Pearson at the NRL Nines in February and the speed demon has helped Redcliffe to the top of the Intrust Super Cup this season, scoring 12 tries in 18 games.
Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said he has no plans to lose Pearson and insists the 95kg flyer has a bright future at Red Hill.

“I wasn’t unappreciative of what Jonus brought,” said Bennett when asked about Pearson being demoted for the Bulldogs clash.

“I think he will bring a lot to the team. But right now, Jordan Kahu has a lot of experience and we need a back-up goalkicker, so I took a safety-first approach.”
Yow Yeh, who scored 33 tries in 60 games for the Broncos, isn’t surprised by Pearson’s progress.
“When he came through the under-20s I always thought he was going to be something special,” he said.
“He has been playing very good for Redcliffe and he handles any level he plays at.
“It’s important for him to remember he’s on a high at the moment but there’s always lows in footy.
“I told him to enjoy his debut (against the Eels) because you only get one debut.
“The Broncos have a history of lairy wingers like Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuqiri, but what I like about Jonus is he’s quietly confident, humble and down to earth.”
