Pick Kevvie's round one team with odds

Yeah that’s my side I love Ryan James but we do have to remember he got chucked to Bulldogs on loan last year from the Raiders who from memory were struggling for numbers at that point. That’s our best side and I think Cobbo is a better centre but if we get 2020 Brenko I would shift him to the wing and bring him in instead of Oates.
Why would you pick Brenko on the wing ahead of Oates? Brenko has always been useless when tried on the wing, and Oates has been our best winger for a long time.

Agreed with all of that. Pretty much everything I've been saying. Interesting they don't seem to rate Herbie either. Particularly compared to Cobbo and Staggs. They were gushing over them, but not a peep about Herbie, or Tesi, who they clearly see as just warming the seat for Selwyn.

For all the reasons they gave, I also find it hard to see Kevvie handing the 6 to Billy. Not in week one.
He might light it up! He could be the perfect little trickster Sam Walker type that combines well with Adam's style.

However.

I love Gamble as a player. If he doesn't get the 6 first up, and we don't have a spot in that starting lineup, I'd love to see him sign on at the Dolphins (his home) and we get to see more of him in the NRL.

He's a top quality player in waiting, he just needs more time at the top

Who?

I'm really ok with Lee in the centres, Oates outside him. That's size and experience together. I prefer that to Herbie tbh.. Herbie can play reserve grade or swap out with Cobbo.

Personally, I'd like to see Herbie try his time as a fullback or go learn how to defend at centre in reggies and he can work his way back into the side.

Side just seems way more balanced like that. You have Cobbo and NIU as the inexperienced backs.

look at the date on the article he posted ... December 15

What I a trying to communicate is others have had a head start .

And although they were incumbents . Training and trials form should count .And should be an incentive .

Trials will reveal more .

Brenko hasn't been good enough to replace Herbie. Unless there are injuries, Brenko really should be in ISC. Herbie is a bang average defender, but he is still a better defender than Brenko.

Thats pretty harsh assessment especially considering he was not too long ago playing origin.

Shift to the wing would suggest someone was already in the side. I was referring to Cobbo on the wing and Brenko in the centres

Ok I must have misread your message. I still disagree either way.

So was Corey Allan, Dunamis Lui and Edrick Lee.

True but the difference is Edrick and Brenko haven’t played since for them to be regarded so shit.

Let the record show Mr @Marty Deutschmann is first - and indeed the only - passenger on the Puffing Billy train.

Feel free to use this post as proof.

I've been thinking about Gamble going to Redcliffe, and it might make sense if he's overlooked in favour of a transition from Kelly to Mam this season. He deserves to start. He'd come in at good value, but Bennett would have to pair him with a marquee half, someone of the calibre of Munster, Ponga, etc. The money he'd save on Gamble he could splash on them.

But there's a hitch that rules that out: Seth is signed for another two seasons.

Cool.

However, this is the "what side do you think Kevie will pick", not the "what is your personal preference thread.

I have stated that Lee and Herbie and switching between firsts at left centre, and that there's a real possibility Lee will get the nod

I'm trying to justify why I think that could be a good move for the side overall. There's one thing I've seen Kevie consistent on, is anything out of the Melbourne system he gives a fair bit of faith to, as well as Donuts for obvious reasons.

It makes sense when you completely remove all emotional ties to the side and wipe it all to a clean slate

I'm just calling it early. I also said I thought it was a bold and risky choice... After watching that podcast video also, they echoed my exact same concerns.

However, at this point, I think Billy is a chance.

Let the meltdowns continue 😅

Something that has been on my mind is the lock position and specifically Kobe Hetherington. Kevie seemed set on having either flegler or carrigan in at lock and Kobe only really got his shot by defualt. We were down on troops due to suspension and injuries and he kinda just fell into the position.

He ended up doing a really good job in lock and by the end became one of the real finds of the season for us and one of my favourite players. Put on some good hits and really cuts guys in half, works hard and can ball play to an extent. He's probably not a big meter eater but the glue that holds the pack together. The type of mid range player who doesnt cost a fortune but contributes quite a bit.

I'm interested to see where kevie rates him amongst a fully fit 30 man squad. I feel like he either starts at lock or he's left out all together.

I like the way he's been developed too. Didnt debut until he was 22 but he didn't shit the bed like many of the guys who were blooded early.

Going to be interested to see where he fits into the squad this season
