pick your Round 1, 2012 team

And lo and behold, Griffin comes out and says he may do just that, and shift Wallace to five-eighth to play a more running role.

Interesting.

I like that idea a lot.

Hunt is more instinctive than Wallace ... so would be a better option at half IMO.

Wallace has a big job ahead of him this year ... i really hope he's up to it

I have thought all along that Griffin would be mad not to move Wallace to 5/8. Wallace played his best footy when he first turned out for us (i think in his first season at the club?) and Lockyer was injured, which was before our trainers got hold of him and rammed the structured half back crap into him which made him boring as all hell and turned him into a crab-like shuffler we have all seen in the last few seasons.

I liked Griffin from the get-go for one reason, last year after he was given the reins and started our season he instantly shuffled our lineup to put an impact forward like Teo on the bench to even out our strike forwards being on the park for 80 mins, something our team was screaming for ever since TC retired. The guy knows what he is doing and he would be insane to play a natural 5/8 at halfback and let a rookie play in Darren Lockyers freshly retired jersey with all the press expectations to boot. All this talk about Wallace staying at halfback is just an obvious smoke screen, so the reveal in round one will mean the press cant write the obvious "rookie under pressure in 6 jumper" stories after our first few games.

I wouldn't mind it TBH. Hunt is more of an organizer while Norman is more of a play it as he sees it type.

Does it really make a difference given it seems Griffin is going to play them on opposite sides of the field? No doubt Wallace is far better one pass wider though.

Hi all - New poster - thanks for having me.
Can't wait for round 1.
I am hoping Hook runs with Norman and Wallace in the 6 and 7 (either way doesn't matter).
Corey Norman has a monumental left boot which is one of the key aspects of Locky's game that we need to replace. One of our greatest strengths when playing well is to start our defensive sets deep in the opposition corners on the back of a deep and pin point kick backed up by a great kick chase. I think Norman can provide this.
Pete Wallace is underrated by Broncos fans in my view.
His close to the line attacking kicks are pin point, especially his ability to land a bomb 1-2 metres out from the try line which puts the defender under enormous pressure and also provides a try scoring opportunity for our flyers. His ability to snap a field goal under pressure is probably the best in the league, he always leads the kick chase and his defence is rock solid. I wouldn't swap him for anyone. (maybe Thursto)
I am happy with Hunt on the bench.
Love the away strip too.

Yep, halfback, 5/8ths....the only difference between them is what side of the field they play on.

If I was a betting man I'd say the odds for rounds 1 were pretty close to:

6. Norman, 7. Wallace $1.15
6. Wallace, 7. Hunt $2.85
6. Hunt, 7. Wallace $5.00

From here I reckon Norman canonly play himself OUT of the jersey with a #### game against the Storm this week.

Norman was $1.20 to play five eight in game 1. Hunt was $5 and Wallace $23. I tried to get on Wallace but the bastards at Sportsbet declined the bet. The market hasn't been up for a couple of months now.

I'd say the team picked for the trial against the Storm is it for round 1. A final hit-out.
