pick your Round 1, 2012 team

I saw on twitter that Scott Anderson is moving in with Dale Copley.. That household should be sponsored by araldite

edit: this is why you shouldn't have numerous tabs open at once.

1- Hoffman
2- Beale (this is not a dig at Beale, but on the wing, I'd prefer Gagai)
3- Reed
4- Hodges
5- Yow Yeh
6- Norman
7- Wallace
8- McGuire
9- McCullough
10-Hannant
11-Glenn
12-Thaiday
13-Parker

14-Hunt
15-Gillett
16-Te'o
17-Civoneciva

I think that with everyone fit, this will be Hook's team.

Before Rocky gets his panties in a twist, the reason for Civo being on the bench is because he will be coming from a pretty serious injury, and the first exchanges of a game are generally the hardest and most violent.

I expect to see a fierce battle for a spot in the halves during the pre-season, and I wouldn't exclude Capewell from the running. Unless McCullough can put 80 minutes high intensity on the park every week, I don't see Hunt getting a look in the halves, especially because Baptiste can play another year in the Toyota Cup. This also goes for Norman, Kahu, Copley and Gagai, arguably the most talented juniors wearing our colours...

I've said it before, but I struggle to find a spot in the team for Beale, and I'm almost tempted to give him the utility role of the bench... :sigh:

Can't wait for the 2012 trials to start!

Beale is a good fullback but not as good as Hoffman.

Agree with Rock. Start with Hannant and civo if fit. McGuire on the bench.

If Hannant and civo don't dominate, bench one and start with McGuire.

And yes, Hala on bench as 2nd interchange prop. And ideally 2 backrowers, but no doubt 1 and Baptiste

Ludacris some are suggesting Beale should be fullback over Hoffman.
If Hoffman wasn't injured, the Broncos would've played in the grand final.
When not injured he has been the Broncos best player over the past two seasons. Parker not far behind.
The team I would pick for 2012,

1. Hoffman
2. Yow Yeh
3. Hodges
4. Reed
5. Beale
6. Gagai
7. Wallace
8. Hannant
9. McCollough
10. Civoniceva
11. Thaiday
12. Glenn
13. Parker

14. Baptiste
15. Gillett
16. McGuire
17. Teo
18. Hala

With Lockyer gone the team needs some flair. Dane provides this. He is no worst than Shaun Johnson or Marshall in defense. Thaiday can be his bodyguard. He plays similar style to Johnson as well. Holding the ball infront of him with two hands shaping to pass, always trying to get on the outside of his opponent. He has good left foot on him as well.
The team struggled all year in attack even with Lockyer playing.
Lock it in Eddie.

1. Hoffman
2. Beale
3. Reed
4. Hodges
5. Yow Yeh
6. Wallace
7. Hunt
8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. Civoniceva
11. Thaiday
12. Glenn
13. Parker

14. Gillett
15. Hannant
16. Teo
17. Baptiste

Hannant, Civo and McGuire can play long periods so I don't really see the need for a fourth prop. Glenn, Parker and Thaiday are similar so even though I don't really like the idea of having a hooker on the bench, we can carry Baptiste.

Gagai at 5/8th now that would be great viewing..

Langer has been working with Gagai on his short kicking and passing game.
So it's not as far fetched as it sounds ;)

With Gillet on the bench, why persist with 2 hookers? I see this as a flaw in the team. Should be:

Gillet (he can play anywhere)
McGuire
Teo
Hala (I think Hala has the makings of a great prop)

I am still at a complete loss as to why Macca doesn't play 80 minutes. Maybe that's Hook's way of getting him ready for 2012?

I am not a fan of Hunt when the top teams have fast, creative halves. Hunt is ok, but I would like to see (and hope) that Norman comes to terms with his talent. Beale would be my 2nd choice to play in the halves, with Hunt 3rd.

In retrospect, and as much as I admire Beale, I think Hoffman should be the starting FB. If he wasn't injured, that's where he'd be.

1. Hoffman
2. Yow Yeh
3. Hodges
4. Reed
5. Beale
6. Wallace
7. Norman
8. Civoniceva
9. McCullough
10. Hannant
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. McGuire
15. Hala
16. Te'o
17. Gillett

Hoffman and Beale will switch around every now and then to get Beale more involved in attack. McCullough plays 80 minutes, so instead of Hunt on the bench we have an extra forward.

I'm hoping that we have another gun QLD cup player come out of nowhere and dominate for us, just like Gillett and Reed. Would be even more awesome if it was a half.

Glad to see that Wallace and McCullough have finally convinced everyone...
