pick your Round 1, 2012 team

Ludacris some are suggesting Beale should be fullback over Hoffman.
If Hoffman wasn't injured, the Broncos would've played in the grand final.
You're right because Beale wouldn't have knocked out Locky and we would have beat Manly...

Uh he's coming back from a pectoral injury, not a shoulder/knee/back injury. Pectoral injuries are usually pretty straight forward, if Civo is available for round 1 then I think you pick him in the 13.

Also, don't be surprised to see Beale give Hoffman a run for his money. Honestly, I'm close to even preferring Beale over Hoffman.
His pectoral was torn straight from the bone, so not so straight forward, otherwise I'd have Civo starting with Hannant and would bring McGuire in from the bench. How good would that be to have Gillett, Te'o and McGuire coming from the bench. Plenty of impact!

Glad to see that Wallace and McCullough have finally convinced everyone...

They've convinced me they can be long term options there. But they need to back up their efforts of 2011 and go to another level next season, especially without Lockyer. I'm hopeful they can do it.

With Lockyer gone they can now go with their instincts on plays without feeling obliged to go to him

Add in Hala and ohhhh what a bench, Most dangerous bench in the NRL imo.

I want Hoffman to bring the ball back each and every time. Can't believe people are talking about getting Beale more. Pfft, Beale is a good fullback, but Hoffy is OUTSTANDING.

QFT. Hoffman runs the ball back as good as anyone in the competition (apart from Slater).

Beale is probably better at chiming into the backline plays, especially if he has to link with outside support. But Hoffman is a better hole runner.

Fact is you need to have both in your 13 IMO, so Beale gets a wing. He works well with Jack Reed too and those two can alternate between wing and 2nd in anyway.

Langer has been working with Gagai on his short kicking and passing game.
So it's not as far fetched as it sounds ;)

Because he's a fullback inherently lacking the kicking and passing skills required to execute the third man play? I'm a huge Gagai fan but he is well back in the pecking order for a halves spot. At this stage of his career he seems content to fight it out for a spot in the back three with his cousin. Hopefully Hook ensures he feels like there is an opportunity there for him because it would be a tragedy to see him go.

He's a prodigious talent and potentially the best outside back on our books IMO

Hoffman is also one of the best defensive FB's in the comp, his positional sense is something Beale lacks when defending.

I also disagree with the last part. Beale doesn't look comfortable on the wing, never has; he's like a fish out of water.

If he had a kicking game, I'd definitely give him a go at a half spot during the pre-season though...

Beads will murder me for this, but I'd rather loose Beale than Gagai long term... :sigh:

I really hope they dont just stick with hannant in the starting side because hes more experienced. He was useless the last 2 months, mcguire totally dominated him. Id rather mcguire start and hannant either get benched or dropped altogether. he gets dominated in tackles too much, has no offload and has a mediocre work rate.

While I think you got an arguement for McGuire to be in the starting side next season on the basis of his post injury form Queenslander and though I agree Hannant had a poor finish to the season, one even Hannant has admitted to and has said his going to work hard in the offseason to address. To suggest dropping him altogether from the 17 is far too extreme and IMO would really hurt the balance of the side in the frontrow department.

might be the kick up the arse he needs! he seems to be complacent

Hannant has been struggling with injury all year. Parker, Wallace and Macca are perfect cases in point of how much your form can dip whilst carrying a niggle, or having part of your season interrupted with a lay of.

Wish next season would hurry up, my first season as a fully ticketed member shapes as a beauty.

Coaching stuff has told him to concentrate working on his kicking and passing game as there is an opportunity in the 6.
Hoffman knocked back a big offer from Nolan to come to the Eels as posted on LU. Hoffman will be around Red Hill for a few years yet
