NEWS Piehole: lol, I'm staying

Yes the defensive structures require a whole overhaul but our technique is poor too. The top teams wrap up the ball and have 3rd to go in low and finish the tackle.

We dont seem to dominate or control tackles. That is why we often struggle against teams that off load a lot.

I think our tackling technique has improved quite markedly over the last 3 matches. However, as you rightly say, this also needs to improve to stop offloads.

Overall, it's the way our defence is organised that worries me the most - structure and communication. More than anything we need a forward leader to pull it together in the middle.

The best teams move up consistently in defence. We still dither and wait. We are better but not good enough yet. It's hard to dominate defensively if you are on the back foot waiting for the ball carrier, especially if they are built like a tank and run hard.

Our defence on the edges is really poor. There is little structure and communication between our back rowers, halves, centre and wingers. The Sharks 3rd try was simply appalling. T'eo standing and watching instead of sliding across, TPJ rushing out of the line at Johnson who was always going to pass, d'uh, a decoy who Milford just watched without reading that the ball was always going wider, it was shambolic. There was no slide, just a bunch of players hanging about watching the ball runner, failing to anticipate the flow of a simple decoy play. From memory, we had 6 defenders on 5 and we still let them run through us like a knife through butter.

I can see Souths through Walker and Reynolds tearing us apart out wide. Bennett knows we are shit out there and he will ensure we are targeted there constantly.

Seibold and Ryan just have to fix that edge defence as an absolute priority, as well as Coates's fixation on the centre and not marking up and staying on his winger, not trusting his centre to do his job.

Otherwise, Seibold will definitely not be staying.

My large concern about every week that passes and he remains coach is that its an extra week we aren't moving on from this horrible era of wonderful club.

I fear if Seibold makes it to the end of the season and survives a end of year review (lets be honest our end of year reviews aren't renowned for resulting in changes) then we get to next year and the club finally realises he's not up to it abd move him on we've lost 2021 as well.

I understand he's been dealt a tough hand and things not gone his way but i think its imperative that we have a new coach asap to start improving this team and most definitely before the 2021 pre season. I think the mental toll this period has taken is almost irreversible and while a coach doesn't miss the tackles and drop the balls a new coach can change the player's attitude and way of thinking. Unfortunately for Seibold its easier to replace one coach then 30 players.

So there are 30 players, 1 Coach, 3 assistants, who are the other 16 people inside our bubble if they aren't bringing something to the table? Alfie takes up a spot so that's 15 left, does the front office get counted into this bubble?
Probably add some physios, assistants, etc to that as well.

This just popped up on my Facebook Memories. Interesting quote from the then coach.

Difference is we beat St George 12-0 (or something similar) the following week. We then went on a streak after that game.

For me, despite what happened against Parra last year, and what has happened this year. This game is still our worst loss ever.

Interesting to note, Seibs very carefully worded end to the Press Conference.....

question was “are you concerned about your position? Do you think you’ll see out the end of the season?”

Seibold “will I see out the season? I think so. I definitely won’t quit”.

paraphrasing slightly, but it sounded like a guy who knows he won’t be around next year.

Yeah i just rewatched it, imo it basically says fire me and pay me out bitches I ain't leaving.

Why would he? He’s not getting another job in the nrl, He needs that cash.

he'll get another job somewhere .. even if he gets fired.

besides who would quit there dream job ... i'm willing to bet that you wouldn't, even if your performance was poor

I cant see him getting another head coach job in the NRL. I think he could possibly rebuild his reputation in superleague.

I wouldn’t, I’d have to be fired....

If Paul White continues with Seibold as coach next season, Glenn/Carrigan should call a team meeting and form a player protest. You can't continue if you've lost the dressing room.

Paul White is done at the end of the year
