Player Movements and Rumours 2012

Brisbane need to sign Gillett for life. If that means starting him ahead of Glenn or Teo, then that is exactly what should happen. No player IMO is as important for our future as Matt Gillett. IMO he has the potential to be the best forward in the history of the Broncos, if not outright best player we've ever had. He's not just strong like Taylor or powerful like Inglis, his timing and understanding of the game and ability to read plays is freakish. I've never seen anything like it.

Not to cause any controversy here and I'm not doubting anyone's efforts for a minute, but if you had to choose 3 backrowers to keep at the club, as your all-star back row, you would choose Thaiday and Gillett as your first two wouldn't you? No disrespect to Parker, or Glenn or Te'o for that matter, but I just think Gillett is the type of bloke who we need to ensure is a Bronco for life.

It's a tough dilemma to have, but there's no doubt going to be a big money plus starting spot offer to Gillett when his contract is up, and I just think a really tough decision is going to have to be made eventually.

Gillett would be the first I would sign. He is a must keep player IMO.

I like to think I'm Alex Glenn's biggest fan on BHQ, but even I would sign Gillett ahead of him.

I hate the term, but he's got that x-factor which is a real rarity in players, especially forwards.

Edit: I feel bad for saying that, so just to continue on with the hypothetical situation, I'd keep Thaiday, Gillett and Glenn.

Parker doesn't have a heap of years left, and whilst I like Te'o, the aforementioned three are just, well... better.

I can't believe anyone would take anything andrew webster says as fact. The guy is a halfwit, he would have trouble putting on he's sizable pants the right way each day, let alone gaining a genuine exclusive

Glenn, Gillett and Thaiday in the longer term but Parker still has a few good year left in him.

In terms of the current pecking order though Gillett > Te'o without a shadow of a doubt.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure you'd sign Stu Kelly over Te'o as well. :cheesy:

Parker may not have a lot of years left in him but he still is playing quality football and his experience makes him important in the forward particularly if Civoniceva decides to retire at the end of the year. Thaiday and Gillett are key players we must retain. If it then comes down to retaining say Te'o or Glenn I would say Glenn, unlike Te'o I don't see him attracting huge attention when he comes off contract making it less likely he would be harder to retain, I also think of the two his been the more consistent performer at the club.

I don't think anyone is saying we should sack a player outright(infact I would like to retain all we have at present), but if it comes to making a tough decision, Gillett must be retained.

I agree Jeba. Gillett has been magical since 2010 and Thaiday is clearly a long term player in the eyes of the management at Red Hill. Personally, I'd be trying what I can to keep Te'O. I know he's had a rough time with injuries, but I think I'm the only one on this board that rates him. I just remember his form pre-injury and even last night he made some quality plays in attack and defense.

I don't like saying it, however Parker seems the less desirable option of them all. Yes, he's in close to career best form and has given great service, however age alone questions what we should pay when his contract is up. It's a dog-eat-dog business unfortunately and I can see losing Glenn and Te'O hurting us in the future. Gillett and Thaiday shouldn't even be options.

Amen.

Sign him for life. As far as I am concerned, he is equal 1st with Thaiday in the back row pecking order, not 2nd, not 3rd or bloody 5th.

It's also time he was in the starting 13. Enough stuffing around. Playing him from the bench is like playing Inglis or Slater off the bench. Bloody stupid.

It's also time to get a repertoire of set plays happening involving Gillett, Macca/Hunt, Wallace and Norman.

Do people really think the work Slater/Cronk/Smith do is all off the cuff ad hoc?

We have a genuine superstar in Gillett (and Hoffa). Time for Hook to put them to good use.

GIllett has to be retained, but all the "Parker is expendable" talk is just rubbish. Letting great loyal players leave because of their age is NOT the kind of culture that I want the Broncos to have. One of my favourite things about the club is how many single club players we've produced.

We don't really seem to be missing Parker ATM. I think it benefits us by allowing more game time for Gillett who is dynamite and Teo who is a dangerous hole runner. It would be very tough for the Broncos to let Parker go though. Its gunna suck when we have to cut one of them loose

Parker will be a one club player. It is idiotic to even suggest he would be let go.

While Gillett and Te'o have been playing well I think your very much underselling the contributions Parker was making prior to getting injured, his stats in the two games he played are not far off stats of the other forwards who have played 4 games something which takes a lot of workload off the more explosive forwards, never seen him strike conversions better either. I'll be very much glad to have Parker back, assuming the pack stays the same I don't see a need for Anderson when his back.

Agree 1000%. If I had to rank them in order of priority:

1. Thaiday
2. Gillett
3. Glenn
2. Parker
1. Te'o

Agreed. I mean, if it were a choice between Parker and Gillett, I'd take Gillett. But it's not -- there's three backrow spots! It's ridiculous to think that Parker and Gillett shouldn't both occupy a spot. Sadly, it seems that Gillett, for whatever reason, isn't recognized as being deserving of one, despite the fact he clearly is.
