Sorry Rocky but with a mentality of that then the Broncos would have given up on Shane Webcke after not setting the world on fire after the first few games where he was anything but sensational off the blocks and he didn't displace Lazo or Gee in the starting lineup in his debut season, it took him a number of seasons to do that and with a mentality that you have adopted it would have seen the Broncos looking elsewhere if they shared it, in which case would have seen the club miss out on arguably the best forward the club has developed, if not had. Not every player past and present shows what they are capable straight of the blocks, for some it can take a number of seasons be it in the lower grades like the Queensland Cup or the bigtime like the NRL to see it and to believe otherwise is ignorant of the truth.
As for the Ben Hunt and Johnathan Thurston comparison I have to disagree with you there, he came into a side that was already well and truely on the way up, the experience was there in the key positions when he made his debut and continued playing he had a much easier and less pressured situation to enter the scene compare that to Ben Hunt who made his debut when the experience wasn't there, where the team as a whole didn't play up to their potential and that made it that much harder for him to do well, he may never be a superstar of the game but to write him off after two games in different circumstances is wrong IMO.
