Player Movements / Rumours 2011/2012

I am tipping Bird to go back to Sydney to play. Also I'll be surprised if the re-sign Minichello now they have Taylor. It is a pretty impressive forward pack.

Bailey
Srama
Douglas
Myles
Taylor
Harrison

They still need a fullback though.

Pretty sure Bailey and Minichiello will leave.
Bird apparently doesn't get along with Prince, so one or the other of them will probably go too.

In any case, it's not the salary cap that concerns me. It's which supplier the Titans use that will stop being paid now. Maybe they'll stop paying their electricity bill, or their rates?

Which brings us to an exciting new initiative for Titan's night games: Bring your own torch night!

The next time Gold Coast boss Michael Searle rings the NRL for a cash advance, he might be in for a rude shock.

The NRL is sick of lending Searle money annually and then watching his mid-season chequebook raids on clubs for some of the biggest names in the game.

The NRL is basically aiding and abetting the Titans to do the very thing the independent commission is trying to stamp out - the mid-season transfers that cause fans so much heartache. This is the same club that owes about $20 million to the Commonwealth Bank and at least two other financial lenders.

The same club that regularly needs NRL advances to ease cash-flow problems and to pay their players.

"Good luck next time they ask," one senior official said last night.

I know it's just a Phil Rothfield story, but I am sure it's not going down to well at NRL headquarters.

If the Titans manage to get Cronk I will be furious.

Because we should be able to get Cronk if he is leaving the Storm not the vermon down the road.

Fair enough it would be great to get someone like Cooper Cronk, DCE or Todd Carney into the team. All quality halfs.

I'd prefer DCE over Cronk. Has a very long future ahead of him and would probably be a bit cheaper.

Cronk IMO will prove to be the most overpaid player in the league if he gets close to the $ on offer in the media. With no C Smith to organise his forwards and no Slater to draw multiple defenders or dummy to he will come back to the field big time.

that would depend on who he goes to and whether they have a good 9 and 1

Kinda reminds me of how Scott Prince struggles without a Benji Marshall or a Preston Campbell elusive type player around him. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Heard from a reliable source that Tony Williams is definitely off to the Bulldogs. He wanted to leave last year but Manly wouldn't release him.

If DCE is keen to go to Canterbury, Manly should sack him straight away as he could be a risk to the club and might attempt to lure other players with him.

spot on imo ... Cronk is a great fit in that Melbourne Storm set up .. He isn't a halfback that's loaded with virtuoso weapons like a Johnathan Thurston or an Andrew Johns ... So I don't think you could pluck him out of Melbourne and put him in another group and expect him to have anything like the impact he does currently.

If I were a ceo and had the choice of him or Daly Cherry Evans, I'd opt for the latter in a heartbeat.

Indeed, and in fact I think QLD will find Cronk less than perfect when he's named halfback for the Maroons. I can see us struggling with him there, despite his combinations with Smith and Slater. Reckon he'll only have the job this year and then DCE will be halfback next year.
