Penalty no sin bin imo should have been the result
I thought they came out last season and said they were done going back 2 tackles to award penalties after all the outrage. Ahhh, sorry, I forgot - doesn't count because #broncos.

I agree Pat did all he could, but I do think Reynolds can be a bit frantic sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I like that he chances his hand, but I think sometimes he should be encouraging everyone to just put their heads down and run hard until they gain some momentum to attack off the back of.

The fact we create chances off the back foot shows how potent our attack is, but it could be even better if we first sought to gain ascendancy before taking our shots.

I can’t put tonight on Reyno though. There were 2 examples not far apart where Reyno put Staggs into a hole and another where he shuffled the ball after capewell’s break and in both occasions it was Staggs who pushed a pass that was never on. South’s went on to score in the very next set on both of those.

- Broncs went for the miracle play too many times early on in the tackle count
- Madden is out of his depth at this grade, riddled with errors.
- Broncs didn't capitalise with one man down against the opposition, Souths capitalised when Herbie was sin binned.
- I think Paix got hooked for having no impact at hooker.
They should bounce back next week.

no idea what happened at the start of the second half but that really was what killed us, and this is before the Herbie trip.

Pay Payne whatever he wants. We got absolutely trampled through the middle. The boys had an opportunity to show us that they can stand on their own two feet, but failed miserably.
Staggs and Herbie had shockers. Walsh very quiet. I like that Cobbo got very involved in the first half.
Herbie form has noticeably dipped since signing with the flippers.
What the hell have you been watching. Herbie was great tonight and has been all year

Good first half display, bombed too many chances then got overrun second half. As much as we missed Payne, i dont think he makes much difference to what cost us that game. Out outside backs and Madden were awful. Carrigan and Arey the only 2 who really stood up tonight imo.

Maybe i bought into the hype, Thought we had a decent group of forwards but i'm thinking if we take Payne or Patty out of this pack we dont have enough quality to cover their loss. Tbf, i dont think our forwards tonight made many bad errors, and they play well off the back of those two, but its way too much to ask either Payne or Patty to carry them if one is missing against the better sides. I think Kevvies forward rotation tonight was horrible. Its no coincidence we have got more out of Payne by not playing him in huge stints anymore.
I know this may be an unpopular opinion but the last few games, punctuated by tonight’s game has really demonstrated the gap that exists between Payne and Patty.

Pat has great leadership qualities and other intangibles but purely on physical output he is not in Payne’s class.

We need to be able to manufacture try with teamplay more than what we have been able to, Souths in our end have so much structure. I haven't seen any stats but we'd have to be in the top few teams in regards to tries off kicks.

They do different things though... Patty is not an all out battering ram. That's what Fleggs, Jensen and Haas are for. Trouble for us, one was suspended and the other two couldn't find their balls tonight.

You being sarcastic? Made some good breaks in attack. And that was it. He was effective as wet tissue paper vs Graham defensively. And his bin cost us big time.

High chance he's a 'Phins fan and wants to pretend like Herbie is the second coming of Greg Inglis.

Yes but no one does. Payne is one of a kind, a freak.

Elaborate please?

Patty’s out put was low by Haas standards but he more errors and missed tackles than Payne has had all season combined

Probably the worst game I've seen from Herbie and by a long stretch.

Staggs was fucking shit, if Fitler was watching Staggs lost any chance of an origin jersey, Graham clearly outplayed him.

Frustratingly shit tonight. I'm not writing off the team though, all teams have off weeks. Lets see how we bounce back.
This is why you can't always take stats at face value. Herbie ran the most metres for us, 1 less than Tavola who ran the most. But because we watched, we know he turned and ran the ball inside almost every time rather than try to set up Arthars, Capewell or Walsh. He did pull off one miracle, but awkward, last second pass to Arthars that might've been, but alas no. He let us down in defence more, though. Out of character for him.

A mixed game from Staggs, too. He won't be the Origin centre game one. We can bank that.

Hard to say with Selwyn. I couldn't tell whether he was drifting out of position slightly, or the passes/kicks were all to fault. Had a couple stuck, he'd be all over the Origin discussions. He had some moments of brilliance, though. As always.

I thought Hetherington, Riki and Jensen quietly earned their pay.

Paynes always been a much better athlete. He's a freak physically but i'm still not convinced the gap is huge between them. I think the difference this year is we arent playing Payne the long stints he has been in the past. He's a lot fresher and its helped his game no end. Pats still generally still playing 50 or 60 mins straight and i cant fathom out why Kevvie is persisting with it. Tonight was ridiculous. He was clutching at his ankle early in the second half and you could see him feeling it a few times. It was clear half way though that second half we were losing the game and he still played him 80 mins.

I've been saying it for years with Payne and Pat, just because they can play big minutes doesnt mean they should. We will get more from both by using them less.
