NRL Pre-season Challenge 2: COWBOYS - Feb 18, 7:55pm (Sunshine Coast)

Broadcast on Fox/Kayo only.

I can see a reason to do it considering who our opposition is the first 2 rounds. Would be good to hit the ground running. The team named is pretty stacked for a trial, but I can’t fault kevvie for that. I don’t really watch the trials.

I think the risk at this rate is him stepping out onto the field at any point. Those niggles are piling up.

His entire history is riddled what some kind of injury or another is it not(?) I think these sorts of players you have to cotton wool them a bit.

During the telecast I think I recall a commentator actually say that Kevvie tried to substitute Walsh and that Walsh didn't want to come off... If that's the case then it's even worse. If our own coach can't even control his players and make a substitution then maybe Cobbo was right.

This happens at every club. Players have the trainer try drag them off and they refuse, it's not a Kevin Walters thing.

Madden to halfback, Rogers to the bench.

Walters:

"Adam ran well yesterday including some extras but is a bit tight in his back this morning so he won't train today at the main session, which will mean he won't play against the Cowboys. We want him cherry ripe for Round 1 and he's moving really well after a big pre-season, so there's no use taking a risk with him in a trial game in these circumstances."

Palasia:

“It’s not in my personality to just bum around until I go. I am still a Bronco until the end of the season. I have gone into the pre-season with that mentality, so hopefully I can bring a premiership back to Red Hill before I go.”
“We have been going through the pre-season with the next-man mentality. Reece hasn’t played an official NRL game for the Broncos yet, so it’s not like we haven’t played without him before. It will be the same as last year, we had a seven-game winning streak without him so I’m sure we can do that again and when he comes back, it’s a bonus for us."
“I did feel for him because he is one of my good mates he hasn’t played that game yet, but when he does he will take it with both hands and be one of our best players. He is a pivotal part of our team. Like he displayed on Sunday night, he was one of our best players, scored a try and had a few good players, we just have to hold the fort until he does come back."
“This game is a measurement of how good we are and how we went through the pre-season. It is another good trial match for everyone to show what we can do and put our name back on the map.”

Reynolds was as much about what it would be mean for the two weeks after this game. If he played and then can't train next week or for two weeks, then he goes into round one with problems.

It's about maximizing that two weeks post Saturday.

It’s not. No more so than any other player

Shall we explore that a little......?

2011 - pre-season he suffered a season-ending Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his left knee.

2015 - Reynolds suffered a knee injury that could have seen him sidelined for up to 6–8 weeks
Reynolds returned early, in Round 9 against the St. George Illawarra Dragons, and helped South Sydney to a 16–10 win at ANZ Stadium, snapping his team's three match losing streak, However he suffered a thumb injury that could have see him out for up to 8 weeks.[21] Reynolds again made an early comeback from injury

2016 - Reynolds was ruled out of the final game in the series due to injury and was replaced by Matt Moylan. At club level, Reynolds made 16 appearances for Souths in the 2016 NRL season as they missed out on the finals for the first time since 2012

2019 - In round 11 against Wests Tigers, Reynolds scored a try and kicked 3 goals but was taken from the field with what was suspected to be severe leg injury. Reynolds was later cleared of any damage but was overlooked for origin selection with NSW coach Brad Fittler opting to pick Nathan Cleary at halfback.[36][37]

We know he limped his way across the finish line for the Broncs in 2022......

I'm just saying there's a history......
of serious injuries.

You've kind of shot yourself in the foot with that injury history lol... 4 since 2011? 1 every 4 years just about, and they aren't even all season ending lol... he's played over 200 games, and played more games than Mitchell has in the last 4 or 5 years. His injury history is hugely over rated

The fewest number of games he's played in a year was 16 in 2016.

2012-27 (27)
2013-26 (26)
2014-26 (27)
2015-18 (25)
2016-16 (24)
2017-21 (24)
2018-24 (27)
2019-25 (27)
2020-23 (23)
2021-25 (27)
2022-20 (24)

251 games out of 281. 89%.

He has a lot of niggles and soreness but he's an old halfback- they all do.

Pretty sure ducks and drakes is at play here. He doesn't need a trial. Back soreness is a smart ploy.

I don’t know, maybe the handle is too short. That’ll give a bloke a sore back.

I'm getting worried about how much trial time this Josh Rogers is getting so far...

I haven't been all that impressed with him so far, but is he the next cab off the rank after Madden in the season proper??

Looks like he's 26 and joined from Burleigh... What's his story from someone in the know?? Is he our Gamble replacement??
