Prince Discussion

Re: It's time to go...

There was a pretty sweet try to Gillet on the right from a certain #6 who held the ball long enough to time it correctly, Also another try that cut out Hodges and allowed the winger to dive over scoring nicely again...

Quite. He has vision. He is not at his best but I for one am seeing positive signs, and those 2 tries were very well done indeed.

We just need more of it, and each game, not once or twice a season. Our right hand side is so deadly ... with good ball

Re: It's time to go...

Agree. Prince's attack is improving each game. His defence...not so much. But I think that's as much about the players around him understanding his weaknesses and being a bit of a protector, as they were for Locky.

Agree.

I honestly believe his error rate has risen as a result of him trying a few things in attack. That isn't really a bad thing IMO, it means at least he's having a dip at not being so predictable.

The defence issue is a lot like what happened with Locky there for a while.

They'll sort it i'm sure.

Re: It's time to go...

In defence of Princes defence he's having to defend 2-3 hitups in a set at times.

Re: It's time to go...

... at the risk of getting poetic in a footy forum ... coal into diamonds ... sand into pearls ... all it takes is time and pressure.

Yup. Against the Cows, he made 28 tackles (3x 1 on 1 and missed 4), which was more than Glenn had to do, besides he was smashed several times by Tariq Sims. In comparison, Wallace did 14 tackles and Thurston... 9!

He is a target for the opposition without a doubt, and the defense around him needs to be a bit more protective of him.

Re: It's time to go...

My biggest problem is that this set-up is all about this season, with no preparations for the future. And, lets be honest, it's not like we are going to challenge for a premiership this year. McCullough needs a rocket up his butt. Hunt is playing better than him at hooker, but that doesn't mean Hunt will ever be a good hooker, it just means McCullough is playing ordinary. Prince is doing nothing but missing tackles, shuffling the ball and putting bad kicks all over the place. Even the Titans were smart enough to get rid of him, and we took their scraps. Hunt might not be a superstar, but it would take very little to improve on Prince, and give a real hooker a chance to compete for McCullough's position. It's disappointing that the club is happy with any minor victory we can get now, even if we have to start from scratch in the future.
how optimistic of you...we can match any team in the competition, we are a premiership threat!

I agree completely, but, we have shown our main attacking hand (the left side) and unless there's a few more (the right side, the middle, the edges) it ain't gonna happen.

The only thing that worries me is what has over the last few seasons - predictability

Re: It's time to go...

The right side still has improvement in it and I think thats a good thing, its not racking up the tries that the left hand side is at present, but it has shown there are points and opportunities there and I don't agree its all been through Hodges, even though I've been critical of Prince even his shown he has the input ability to setup tries of late. Personally I'm more impressed with the forwards efforts since the Storm game then I probably was early last season, not only have they been dominating but they have shown far more willingness to offload(And offloads that have resulted in opportunities and points) then I can remember for quite sometime. That offload from Parker to setup our first try on the right hand side was absolute superb.

I know it is easy to focus on the miss on Linnane (and it was a pretty ordinary miss) But I think it is a bit crook to not acknowledge the huge load he had in defence that night - he was smashed repeatedly defending hit-ups as well as getting nailed when kicking (as mentioned in previous posts). Fact is he kept getting back up and back in the line. He deserves some acknowledgment for his huge effort not a shellacking for missing a couple of tackles.
Don't get me wrong - Like everyone else I did watch some of his efforts in attack with dismay and wondered why he was there but the guy has a big heart to just keep getting up and making another effort when alot of other players would have clocked off and left it to someone else to make the next effort or even do a Dugan and limp off with a broken fingernail. You won't hear Princes teammates saying he has a pea heart......
It's not like he is the first playmaker to be targetted by an opposition in the hope of smashing him out of the game and it won't be the last - for him or any other playmaker, but I think it is a sign of respect from opposition teams that he has been targetted so heavily since he came to the Broncos. It also might be fair to say that the opposition teams know he can be suspect but he is definitely no doormat...
It wasn't that long ago it was Wallace that was being targetted in the same way and was getting hammered every week by the big boys in the hope of minimising his effect in attack.
Maybe this is part of the reason the leftside attack is having a little more success lately with Wallace having a bit more spring in his step from not having to do so much defence??
Maybe its all part of a cunning plan by the coach to let Prince get hammered over one side to free up the attack on the other side??
Who knows but it's all worth a ponder....
I do think that there is plenty of quick, damning opinions too easily fired off sometimes though. Fact is it is a tough f^#*n game sometimes and players make mistakes. I saw a bloke get smashed several times but he kept getting up - I think he at least deserves some respect for pulling on that jersey every week knowing that is exactly what is going to keep happening.....
The boys are going okay - 6 weeks in, not a star-studded roster like many other teams but we can and will hold our own against the top teams and will beat most of the others so why not enjoy the ride....
Look on the bright side - at least we didn't just sign Jamie Soward for 4 Years :loool:
Sucks to be a Panthers fan - just ask my wife

Re: It's time to go...

After 3 rounds all the talk was we had nothing in attack except going down the right to Hodges. Now we are apparently over reliant on our left hand side... some people are hard to please. We don't have the most star studded line-up in the comp but we do have one of the more very solid sides from 1 to 17 when all are fit. Broncos are not going to blow too many sides off the park, but a simple game plan of solid defence, good direct running and ball control from our forwards, a little bit of 2nd phase play from Parker etc and some nice deep sweeping backline moves with Norman chiming in and this side will hold its own against anyone. Melbourne don't do anything that complicated, it is just razor sharp execution. As for our recruitment, until the side runs out for round 1 in 2014 then I don't think you can sensibly comment as the media only reports part of the picture and relies on rumour and innuendo on slow news days for a story...

Only my opinion

Been in Australia for 5 years and have supported the Broncos for all this time. Very disappointed at the appointment of Scott Prince as part of the team as I think he is too old. After watching this seasons games, witnessing him kicking the ball on tackles 3,4 or 5 as opposed to completing the set of 6 and giving the ball away cheaply as his kicking is so inaccurate. He either kicks in to touch or too long giving the opposition the ball and puts more pressure on the team. His accuracy in kicking for goals is next to none. I would like to see a change in giving a younger player the chance to prove themself as I feel he is letting the team down.

Re: Only my opinion

Minus himself, Griffin and Gee, everyone that's seen Prince play in the last 5 years knows he's crap.

Prince is trying his best, but just doesn't seem to have any magic left anymore.

Time for Hunt to go to halfback i reckon.
