Prince Discussion

Prince is trying his best, but just doesn't seem to have any magic left anymore.

Time for Hunt to go to halfback i reckon.

So your dropping Wallace then, because Prince is playing 5/8 :001_tt2:

As much as I like Prince's attitude and the fact that he always puts in and never gives up (which is better than most in our team) he just doesn't have it in him any more. He's passable at best in offense and is a big liability in defense.

That's how I took his comment and I applauded loudly.

We would see an almost, instant gain in creativity.... with Prince and Hunt in the halves.

and swiss cheese defence ...

Hunt just needs to wait until one of these two are booted. I'd take Wallace any day over Prince, but Wallace at 5/8 and Hunt wouldn't work great, because of Wallace's shit play making ability.

My stance has not changed since Round 6.

It is clear that Hook doesn't see it that way and isn't willing to tamper with the spine, especially with the representative season right around the corner. A shame because I believe Hunt would suit our style of play (particularly in defence) but the coach isn't trying to fashion him as a halfback and there are times where Hunt lacks the polish to cut it in first grade.

Did anybody else notice Wallace giving Hunt a spray early in the second half against the Rabbitohs? It isn't the first time Wallace has been caught with the ball, turned around and had a few choice words with Hunt. It appeared Wallace wanted Hunt running off him but Hunt just stood back and watched Wallace get absorbed by the defence. It's a shame, because moments like that are what prevent Hunt from being considered a genuine option. Although, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, the biggest obstacle is that there isn't any barometer in which to judge Hunt as a halfback on since he plays the back-up hooker role.

Campaigning for Hunt to play in the halves is like pissing in the wind.

Speaking of Hunt, I find it sad when he's out-playing McCullough. Yes, he has the benefit of coming off the bench, which is a much easier proposition but a player of McCullough's stature (at least around the club) shouldn't be out-played by a back-up dummy half with aspirations of playing a different position. I've defended McCullough a number of times, but also believe in calling a spade a spade and I thought he was poor on Friday. He gave us no direction while we were attacking the line and as soon as Hunt came on we looked far more threatening.

I can see where pwn is coming from when he says that Macca should be under pressure. It seems like he performs at his best when his position is called into question. I recall his start to 2011 was fairly mediocre, but when he was dropped for disciplinary reasons, he came back and played some of the best footy of his career. If he doesn't find consistensy, I'd like to see Hook at the very least bench him for a game and give Granville a shot. I would say Baptiste given how long he's been apart of our system but it appears he's injured and Granville is in better form (or at least that's the impression I get).

I don't think McCullough was as poor as you make out. I think you're taking away from a good game from Hunt. There is no hiding from the fact that, when McCullough goes off, and Hunt comes on, we don't play as well.

This week alone has me wanting to see more of Hunt. But not at the expense of
McCullough. It has got to be in the 7 jersey.

I didn't think Hunt was that good though, which is the problem in that it was clear that he was providing more direction offensively than McCullough. He came up with a few good plays but he also took some bad options (eg. going the blind-side to Reed forcing him over touch) and defensively was pretty soft.

On NRL.com it says that we have the top 2 in the league for missed tackles Scott Prince is no 1 and Gillet is No 2....

But like you said, he's being played out of position, and he's had what, a total of about 2 hours in first grade. He didn't play out of this world, but he played a hell of a lot better than the rest of his games this season.

I still think McCullough played well. He makes a dumb decision here or there, but he's one player we need to persist with. The 6 and 7 are our problem, and where the coach needs to be working.

And Melbourne are in the top 4 for making the most errors, crazy huh.

That's what is scary about Melbourne, they are playing no where near their best. You wait until they finally click and cut out the errors etc. No-one will get anywhere near them.

The defense of prince has been steadily improving. I know the missed tackles between those two is a worry but it's cause that's where they're running at. I'm more worried about the ridiculous number of missed tackles elsewhere.

Prince might be missing fewer tackles but the opposition are still getting easy momentum whenever they run a second rower at him.

It would be much easier to overlook the defensive weakness of Prince if he was contributing more in attack. As it stands he isn't doing enough IMO. I don't think he looks confident his body can cope with him running the ball like he should be.
