Queensland Cup 2012 Discussion

Easts scored three tries in the opening fifteen minutes then shut up shop until midway through the second half. The 5/8th (Walker?) scored a double and had some pretty good runs. Good defence too, the kicking game was pretty good.

Took the old man out to lunch and the game afterwards, he was pretty impressed with the quality of the football.

I got to enjoy Country Week and Yowie Park Kilcoy from the broadcasters' box today thanks to BroncoMatt.

Redcliffe continued on their winning way against Sunny Coast but were pretty ordinary in doing so. In saying that, Capewell went off injured in the first few minutes, and Farrell still out injured as well, so I reckon they'd be happy enough to walk away with the points. Capewell should be back next week.

Anyway, I reckon everyone who has the slightest interest in QCup should get themselves to Dolphin Oval next Sunday for what should be the match of the season against Wynnum. And to add a bit more incentive - free entry. You'd need a bloody good excuse not to be there!

Ethos - sounds like Easts ran away with a pretty good win today?

Easily the match of the year.

At their best these two (esp Wynumm) are borderline NRL standard. Going to be a cracker!

Started incredibly well with three tries in the opening 12 minutes. But they dropped their intensity a bit after that, did enough to win though against a pretty clumsy Burleigh team. Needed to win it as well to stay in 4th spot. A big few games coming up.. Norths at Bashup Park, Tweed at home and then the Dolphins on the peninsula followed by Northern Pride up in Cairns. Will be an interesting race for top five spots.

And I would be out at Redcliffe with bells on next Sunday, if Easts weren't playing Norths on the same day. Will be huge.

Big win for the Dolphins in the top of the table clash. Smaller men proved the difference and they really caught the Seagulls out late with some good and at times fortunate footy.

Couple of solid performances from the Broncos. Didn't think any of them were the stars though.

Speaking of Broncos, Norths kept their hopes alive with a 30-22 win over Easts. Baptiste, Gibb & Anderson were among the try scorers.

Outstanding win by the Dolphins today, and I can't agree with you about the Broncos players Big Pete as I thought Slyney, Capewell and Whitchurch all played brilliantly.

Slyney - worked so hard in attack and defence. Made valuable metres on the edges.

Capewell - the architect of it all. Started, involved in and finished tries.

Whitchurch - defensively outstanding, shut down Wynnum's right hand attack and looked dangerous on the left helping create a few breaks for Berryman.

There wasn't a bad player for the Dolphins today but outside of those 3, Samoa, Bond and Butterfield all played very well. Probably Troy Giess's best game all season too.

Top of the table now and traveling beautifully. Up the Phins!!

I didn't think they were bad or anything but I thought Geiss, Bond, Kennedy and Samoa were the stand outs for the Dolphins. I didn't think the Broncos players stood up until the game was essentially over but each to their own.

I liked some of the lines Dan Wallace was running out there. Whitchurch will likely get the shot but I'm happy with Dan's improvement.

Pete, I read on another site that Dan Wallace has signed with another NRL club, possibly Melbourne.

Thanks for the heads up barker.

If it's true then I wish him nothing but the best.

Just hope the Broncos get their hands on a back.

Well Capewell got 3 points in player of the year and Whitchurch got Old Boys Man of the Match so they must've done OK ;-)

Tui Samoa got the players player award

He stood out more for me then Capewell did, but I haven't seen a replay of the game

Have to mention it's been quite a while since I've been to Dolphin oval. Grew up there

Crowds these days seem a bit less than I remember

.....the pig pen is still a laugh.

Out of curiosity, how is Michael Parker-Walshe going this year?

I don't want to rain on your little parade here mate but a rookie half isn't the answer unless he is the next Darren Lockyer or Thurston.

You don't know that. DCE and SJ were rookie halves and they did quite well. And Wallace and Norman aren't the answer either.

I'm happy for the club do go down that path but it's still a gamble.

I don't think MPW's future is in the halves. Think he has a future in the centres though which is always handy.

It's definitely a gamble and I'm not at all saying that MPW is the answer but alternatives definitely need to be looked at.

I agree that we most certainly need to be looking at our options. MPW seems to have aligned with the Titans in any case.
