Q-CUP Queensland Cup 2021

and right on cue, there is an article in the CM talking up Deine Mariner

Not really, Dawson writes a Meninga article a week and tomorrow is the Grand Final. He’s focusing this week on Weaver the Tweed captain and Mariner who got three tries in the final.

That is his weekly gig.

Fun fact: Deine Mariner is the son of Lapi Mariner, fairly well known singer over here in NZ. This is him on this infamous Warriors campaign ad from the early 2000's:

Can someone explain how Nat Neale has never played NRL? @1910 @Big Pete

Even at the ripe old age of 32, he's absolutely dominating statistically -

5 games - 14 runs per game (#3 in QCUP), 152 metres per game(#2 in QCUP), 287 post-contact metres (#2 in QCUP), 35 tackles per game @ 93% efficiency (#3 in QCUP), 19 tackle busts (#8 in QCUP), 18 offloads (#1 in QCUP).

He has played NRL!

But he should have played 156 NRL games not 156 ISC games.

Best forward outside the NRL and has been for years.

I was saying in pre season even at his age he would be a solid pick up. Deloise Hoeter is another. Plenty of good players in ISC who just havent got a decent crack in the NRL for whatever reason. Sometimes they just end up at the wrong club at the wrong time.

Grand Final Day!

Hard to go up to Townsville and win. Tweed are the defending premiers and so good in Mal Meninga.

Lost Jack Cullen- massive out.
Six PBC boys in the Tweed team- that has to help.
Blackhawks just 34 against- 24 of them last week against Wynnum.

Great start- 4-0 Duffy try.

Great run Marshall- break first set.

Blackhawks 6-0.

Tweed clawing it back now- Weaver nice work

Mariner try. Just in to dummy half and shuffles over.

Oskar Bryant (brother of Max) straight through from dummy half and De Groot scores.

Tweed 12-6.

Brock Priestley slammed the ball down on the right and and gave the Seagulls a 18-6 lead.

Baira-Gale front rowers try- except he's the hooker.

Tweed 20-12 at half time

Mozer scores and Weaver nails the difficult conversion to give Tweed a 26-24 lead with 2 remaining.

The short kick off doesn't go 10, penalty to Tweed off the kick-off.

Ngamanu strips the ball off Wavik and scores to seal the win.

That play could have been anything. Wavik attacking the ball, runs past a few chasers but steps into the tackle of Ngamanu and he's able to strip the ball.
