The Brisbane Broncos wish to thank the Norths Devils senior club for their affiliate relationship, which will finish at the end of the 2023 season.

Having formed in 2008, the partnership has helped deliver success for Norths including back-to-back Premierships in the Hostplus Cup in 2021 and 2022.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said: "We wish Norths all the best in the future - now that they have made their decision we will move forward with our own plans across the wider Brisbane region.

"Being based on the north-side of the river, we will continue to maintain a strong presence across this part of our city, through our home base and Academies at Red Hill, as well as our longstanding relationships with schools and our club's game development partners in the north.

"The biggest change for us as a result of this change will see Broncos NRL players, currently playing for Norths when not selected for the NRL, joining their teammates who are already with our other two other affiliate clubs, Souths Logan Magpies and Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

“We remain fully committed to Brisbane’s north and are excited about continuing to develop our connections with the communities across the region in the years ahead.”

Sounds like a win to Wayne and his Dolphins to me. Good luck to them. We will survive and improve.

The more of our players playing together at cup level the better imo. Wouldn’t want less than 2 but won’t miss north’s

I think Norths are a loss, they're the back-to-back premiers and lots of Broncos have come through there and benefited from coming through there. Their development of players has been excellent.

Devils are important just because of their location to Redcliffe.

Are you able to discuss any details that led to this change ? Did the Broncos drop the ball ?

If Titans get their way with the in house team, it would leave doubt on what happens with Burleigh and Tweed, no idea when their contracts are up though.

Dobbo saying we've pulled Madden and Willison from Norths immediately for this weekend and they'll have new teams next week.

There would be pressure from all fronts. The nrl, qrl and commercially from the dolphins. I don't think there was much that could be done

Norths aren’t looking like playing finals at this point, might not be the worst thing to move them.

I do wonder what the phins player allocation will be like, I would think they would naturally want the best players playing for phins in cup, leaving norths with the scraps.

It's been pretty even between the Capras and the Dolphins. The Capras seem to receive more experienced players like Anthony Milford, Kodi Nikorima, Edrick Lee etc. Whereas the Dolphins get the younger players like Mason Teague, Jack Bostock, Max Plath, Michael Waqa etc.

I presume you'll see Redcliffe players like Jennings, Faamausilli etc. at the Devils.

It'll be interesting to see if Liam Horne and players of that ilk come into consideration for the NRL off-season.

The Broncos really need to find a way to claim back some of the ground they’ve been losing for some time now. The Dolphins now have arguably two of the strongest and most prolific assets in the QRL on their books, not to mention the Capras as well, and that should be a real concern for us.

Clydesdales only just got locked up by the Bulldogs, no idea how long for but that likely rules them out for the time being - seems a shame given the historical ties to the Clydesdales name and with us being boxed in North by the Dolphins and South by the Titans, a push towards the West seems to be about all we can work towards now.

Storm just picked up North Sydney, so it would be interesting to see if that had any impact on Easts Brisbane and the Falcons going forward - can the Storm really sustain a meaningful relationship with three clubs?

Ipswich is the other massive growth area that the Broncos have obviously neglected for a long time now - would be nice to see us apply some pressure to the Roosters on that front, even if it is unlikely especially given the Roosters just lost North Sydney.

Do we do something a bit more radical like getting involved with the Hunters? I’m not sure how difficult that would be to execute in practice and I guess the risk exists that we’ll do the hard work only to lose them within the next 5+ years if the NRL gets serious about putting an NRL club up there/Pasifika?

We had a talent pool that was the envy of the entire comp only a decade or so ago - now we’re down to two clubs in almost the same pocket of Brisbane - that really shouldn’t be sitting well with the people running the show.

just because we don't have a feeder team in every area of South East QLD ... doesn't mean we've neglected the area where we don't have teams
