NEWS Right price to deliver Storm’s Brodie Croft to Broncos

Why are you refusing to answer a simple question? You're advocating for signing these guys ahead of a guy who's played Halfback in the NRL for a couple of years, and learned from Cooper Cronk / Cameron Smith / Craig Bellamy at training for twice as long, how many times have you physically watched them play football for you to ascertain this level of confidence in their ability?

I’m just saying we literally just need someone that knows how to run a game of rugby league. Finish sets of 6 well. That’s all I want. Someone to finish the set well.

Huh?

There is a reason blokes like Scarlett, Fogarty, Cullen, Murphy etc are still playing ISC. Its because they cant run a game of rugby league at a higher level and under more pressure. Even the poster boy for late bloomers from the lower grades, Cody Walker, isnt a game manager. He is a supporting player to an organising half.

Look what happens when you’re not given a chance to develop outside of the NRL though.. You end up entitled like Milford or Ash Taylor. You think you deserve to be there. How about going and playing a couple of years against men in the second grade comp? Get out played by reserve graders every second week.. then tell me you deserve to be in the Broncos starting side.

Exactly. Yet, he was seemingly unwanted.

If I told you last year that next year Hughes should replace Croft at 7 and Papenhuyzen should play 1.. You would have laughed.

He wasnt unwanted. He was an obvious talent in the 20's at the Tigers. Tigers couldnt afford to keep him because they threw all their money at keeping Tedesco. Storm identified him, then developed him in ISC, then he forced his way into their side. You make it sound like nobody was interested in him at all, which isnt the case.

Thats all irrelevant. What Milf or Taylor do now doesnt matter.Milf when he broke through deserved to be there, same with Taylor. Its also down to them why they haven't reached the heights they should have.

Good players will force their way out of reserve grade if they are good enough. Its generally not technical footballing ability that stops these good ISC players from stepping up. Its the little things the stats wont tell you that is missing from their games that stop them.

You are also wrong to say blokes like i mentioned havent had opportunities at NRL clubs, because the likes of Fogarty, Cullen, Scarlett etc all have.

You’re like the far right of rugby league politics

How many times had you seen Papenhuyzen play? Noone asks this from Bellamy. It’s a stupid question.

we ask this question of a fan, not the coach of an NRL team about a player in his system

Bellamy would have seen a lot of Papenhuyzen play before he got a gig.

But who counts? Yes, I’ve seen them all play. I own a television and pay for an internet connection. I also live in Queensland.

Hughes is no 7 ... he proved that against the Roosters
he is a really good fullback ... not a halfback ... and IF the Storm let Croft walk, they will find out just how big of a mistake it was as soon as Smith retires ... hopefully, we have him locked up just before Smith makes that announcement.

Bellamy doesn't make many mistake but keeping Hughes at 7 instead of Croft would be one.

if he really wants Papenhuyzen at fullback, he should let Hughes walk.

Okay, so you’re going with the view that Croft has suffered because he has played with the all time best hooker in the game? Cronk didn’t have a problem with it.

It worries me that Croft couldn’t adapt.

Croft got his team to the top of the ladder (6 points clear for the minor premiership) ... as soon as he was dropped, the Storm were lost 2 of their 3 finals games. coincidence?

Croft is a game manager, who is rarely permitted to perform that role, since that is one Smith demands at the Storm.

You can't compare Cronk to Croft. Cronk is a veteran and one of the smartest, hardest working players in the game ... Croft is a young player still developing his game.

even though Croft is no Cronk, he is still better than a player that couldn't even get into the wooden spoon side.

Maaaate

“Croft got his team to the top of the ladder”

“Croft is a game manager, who is rarely permitted to perform that role, since that is one Smith demands at the Storm.”

You don’t see how you contradicted yourself there?

Croft goes missing more than Benny Hunt or Mitch Pearce ever have

It has to be the core of your opinion. If you can’t reference a single performance from their career it makes it hard to take your opinion seriously.

If you detail this is why and tell me all about your reasons and games then I’m listening.

I actually don’t have to cater to anyone.

You know what I think. Cop it.

Putting up good numbers in ISC does not mean you're better than an NRL Halfback. Also, why wouldn't we sign Sam Scarlett instead? His numbers were considerably more impressive than Fogartys, and he's been in the Broncos system before.

Edit, for arguments sake:

Sam Scarlett - 25 games, 8 tries, 5 line-breaks, 33 try assists, 25 line-break assists, 18 forced drop-outs

Jamal Fogarty - 26 games, 7 tries, 4 line-breaks, 22 try assists, 11 line-break assists, 11 forced drop-outs
Of course we should. Lets get in Cameron Cullen as well. They had a great partnership at Burleigh. A premiership winning partnership in fact. That would give us two halves too good for ISC who couldnt crack it at NRL level.
Remember he is playing today, you can watch him for the first time.

Cool, let me know how he goes today.
