NEWS Right price to deliver Storm’s Brodie Croft to Broncos

I think we may have baulked when storm indicated they were unlikely to fund any of his contract, but that is just a guess (which is basically what league journalism is).
Wasn't the last we heard we had to find another $100K or so and that it might come from offloading Bird? I wonder how much we've just freed up by not resigning Segerayo?

I read somewhere that Segeyaro was on 40K and allegedly we'd allocated money to resign him for less than he wanted, but still probably more than he was on.

So that's potentially at least another 40K that's been released from the budget. What am I missing?

I think min. wage is around 100k. He might have been on less this season because he wasn't here all year but if he stayed we would have to pay min. wage

That's what I was thinking. So there's the cash for Croft right there.

But Seggy still needs to be replaced by someone on min. wage....Unless Croft comes for min. wage....I think that's how it works anyway.

Nothing. He was on minimum wage and has to be replaced in the top 30.
This year but what size contract was he offered for next season. Any thing over minimum wage can be redirected and still leave enough to bring in some one at base rate.

Pretty sure the offer was for $100k

Should've read the OP:

"Brisbane have about $110,000 to spend under the salary cap and must offload one player, possibly highly-priced back Jack Bird, to offer Croft a palatable $300,000 deal that would convince Melbourne to release him. "

So they've offloaded one player from the budget cap - Segerayo - which according to these figures (they've come from Badel so they must be spot on), still leaves roughly another 100K to find.

The comp is still going. Lot of water to pass under the bridge til we play again.

It's time to treat this coming Grand Final weekend as a bit of an "unwinding" moment, folks. I understand our season was dreadful, trust me I went through that ride right next to the rest of you, but it's time to just turf footy out of your mind for a few months and focus on what really matters. Christmas and the New Year are right around the corner, find distraction in those pleasant moments with your family and mates. Go down the coast over the Summer and brood with the grumpy **** Pelicans on the Spit. There will be plenty of time to agonize over the Broncos again come February 1st.

Let the pieces move where they will behind the scenes, and we'll judge the chess board when its put in front of us.

I’d rather a disaster of a season than an off season. Bring back the footy!

100%

I don’t know what it is, whether it’s the PR spin the club keep pulling out despite the obvious mess we are in, the massively overpaid and underperforming senior players killing our salary cap with no repercussions, the empty promises that have seemingly been trotted out since arguably our worst ever loss in club history, or just the general state of our play on the field all season with little improvement... but I am looking forward to just shutting off and not worrying about Rugby League or the Broncos at least until January/February which is a very rare emotionally state to be in.

Think this season emotionally has taken a toll on me for many reasons more than any other season since I’ve followed and that’s including post 2015 GF. At least after that GF loss I felt optimistic about our 2016 and the direction we were heading.

The SOS ACL injury and Segeyaro’s drug bust is just the icing on the cake to rub the salt in. Only thing I feel good about with our club at the moment is the being able to watch the development and rise of our young players led by Haas, Fifita, TPJ, Staggs, Dearden and Carrigan.

Only thing I want to hear come out of this fucking club in the preseason is official player movements and signings (not bullshit rumours) or if any of our players collapse and are hospitalised because they’ve been flogged to an inch of their lives in the pre season. Otherwise the club can shut it’s fucking mouth and start doing it’s talking on the training paddock instead of in the media.
