Roberts contrary conduct

We need to spam the NRL with these shots. I'm happy for us to cop it but only if every one else does too.

The best was when Parker told the ref not to touch him, classic. Forgot what game it was.

Grade 2 Malicious abuse of the palm with a shoulder.

I have a shoulder charge, just check to see if he makes contact with my palm and that he doesn't look too impressed.

The rule needs to be there to protect the refs. "Oh it was an accident" doesn't cut it if someone is deliberately trying to intimidate the ref.

Oh I agree, I still don't think you can blanket all offences as being the same level of offence when clearly others are more deliberate and worthy of tougher offences.

Absolutely. I have no dramas with Roberts being charged, as has already been said, the issue is the countless times others do it that aren't charged.

The NRL know they are a joke, they just don't give a shit.

Agree about different levels, but there needs to be zero tolerance and bare minimum to prevent players from even considering it. 125 points will do it, especially if the NRL shows some balls and charge multiple players with it in the one week.

Agreed, I don't mind sending a clear message out that it is unacceptable to intimidate the referee, but there is a difference between a little tap to get his attention then the sort of level of what say Steve Roach did(even if it was back in the day, it's still an example).

I don't really understand the whole "no touching" thing. If the ref is copping abuse and someone grabs his arm and goes "Listen here mate" then he should be suspended but they're not bloody deities whose holy visage would be sullied by contact with the common scum.
100% agreed.

The rule is stupid. They're humans, humans sometimes make contact when interacting. I can understand if there's absolutely any malicious intent to it, they should be banned, or anything that can be mistaken as intimidating but it's a stupid as **** rule. Doubly so when it's made to be black and white "zero contact" yet plenty of players touch the ref and have nothing come of it.

Quickly getting 'disinterested' in your two bobs about the word 'disinterested'. Not to mention your echo chamber responses.
Looks like a bit of a mix up with the two words, uninterested and disinterested ....worth checking the distinction methinks.

I remember when that McCallum ballbag was masquerading as a ref. When he was down to ref our games I wouldn't watch the game because invariably we would lose.
It was worse under Harrigan...and yes, I do know what I meant when I said Harrigan. He was as biased as they can be but only after the Sydney media called him Bronco Billy while pointing out the Broncos brilliant record when he reffed them. That was the week our run ended under him ,getting smashed by him every single time in an idiotic attempt to wipe the dirty smear from his name.

Call Made On Roberts' Charge - Broncos

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos have made a call on the contrary conduct charge on James Roberts.

While Roberts’ patting of the ref looked an innocuous incident without any hint of malice, the Broncos have will notify the NRL this morning they will accept the early guilty plea.

Fighting the charge at the judiciary – as the Bulldogs are doing with David Klemmer – would have put Roberts in danger of missing a match through suspension.

With the charge coming down from 125 points to 93 with the early guilty plea reduction, Roberts will now be eligible to take on the Panthers at Penrith on Saturday night.

Klemmer is facing two weeks suspension whether he is found guilty or did indeed take the early plea.

Roberts will now take his place in the centres for the Broncos when the team is named at 4pm this afternoon on Official Site of the NRMA Insurance Broncos - Broncos.

Wayne Bennett will name his replacement for injured winger Corey Oates at that time.

Well it seems Moses won't be charged so the black and white "no touch" rule is suddenly not so black and white.

Did Roberts pot your missus or something mate. Your tirade against him is bizarre.

He isn't 'disinterested' he can't get into our game plan at the moment. Same as Milf and Blair at the start of last year, same as nearly every new recruit currently.

Do you really think Bennett would have someone in his team that is disinterested?

It's just my observation - no need to get personal.

What was your view of his efforts on the field in Round 1 and 2, or also very relevantly, his first official post game interview as a newly minted Bronco as an opportunity to make a very lineball joke?

Were you at the game Round 2 as well - my comments were directed mainly at his off the ball away from the cameras efforts about his body language etc.

I was at the game and thought he did the job in front of him pretty well. I understand the point about his body language but I read it as a bit of frustration rather than disinterest. The positive sign for me was that he did go looking for less glamorous work sometimes to try and get himself into the game. As long as he keeps doing that while the attack works out how best to use him I will be happy. It will just take time. Also if you look at the poster from last weeks Courier Mail the whole squad is smiling and happy except Roberts. That might just be the way he is.

Yeah, he comes across as very troubled and Bennett's track record as a mentor of young men probably puts him in the best place possible.

The only saving grace I could take from it was the Bennett was testing him to push his character a bit, playing injured.

There is that ruthless (gutless?) Broncos member base in the Suncorp crowd that expects him to make a linebreak or score a try from every play that he'll have to live with.

How he will deal with the spotlight, really for the first time in his career.

High performance every week being the expectation, not the exception.

My gut feel is that he will turn it around - and I just know that he will score that x-factor try or line break that will win us a vital game later this year (maybe even the big dance, who knows...).

I wasn't at the game so can only comment on what was on camera, you previously made no mention that your comments related to off camera things.

He doesn't look like he lacks effort on the field, he looks like he isn't getting any ball currently. He looks as 'disinterested' as Milf and Blair did at the start of last year. As I wasn't at this game I am going to have to trust the opinion of our coach and not some punter in the stands.

As to his joke I thought it was funny and I appreciate one of the most sanitised codes in the game featuring a bit of a character for a change. what I find funnier is the media and some fans' reaction to the comment, like the have to find fault and offensive in literally everything. These are the same people that I'm another breath will cry that the game lacks characters and that players/coaches only talk in cliches. I wonder why?
