As it stands (assuming Glenn does retire) in 2022 only the following players would have been at the club in 2018 when Wayne was here:

- Oates
- Isaako
- Staggs
- Haas
- Turpin

By the end of next year it’s possible or even likely that Turpin, Oates, and Isaako will also be gone - leaving just Haas and Staggs remaining from the Wayne2 era.

Side note:
Reynolds
Capewell
Lee

Have all been coached by Wayne in the years since he left (Bunnies or QLD).

We are idiots if we let Oates go.

people really don't realise how important it is having a winger like Oates..
If we have oates and herbie (and mead as a fill in when required) on the wings next year, they will get our sets off to really good starts. They are both really good 'metre eaters' and will get us on the front foot and alleviate some of the work on our middles.

Yeah exactly right.. its either Oates, Herbie or Haas topping the metres each week.
Its like having extra forwards out there and their not easy to come by.
The occasional error from Oates you can cop when he's making the metres he does.. I'd make rather a winger that makes 150+ metres a game with a error then one who makes 80 metres with no mistakes.
The money with Oates won't be a problem i don't think aslong as we offer a contract I think he'll take it

Really mate? I'm surprised as I thought Oates being overpaid was basically universally believed.
Not saying he is a bad player, just not great value at 500.
Interested to hear your thoughts mate.

You also need to remember the senior player discount.

Glenn is getting it this year. Oates will be getting it next year

From what I can see, Oates is the only one that is eligible for this.

I think it is $150k - so if this is taken off his overall value then he is a much better value

We're idiots if we sign him for what he's on again.
Agreed. No wingers are worth 600k. But the fact that Oates is loved by majority of the fans, he has bulk 3rd party involvements and obviously is passionate about the club means we will be able to re-sign him for cheaper than what other clubs would be willing to play. This relies on us not being idiots, so anything could happen.

From NRL website - $0.2 million – Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the Club prior to becoming NRL players and / or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the Club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game

judging by this it seems oates would already be getting it. not sure if it means Reynolds could be discounted as well?

Also I'm fine with paying oates 600k if 200k is off the cap

Glenn is our exempt player at the moment, and I think some of it goes to players cars(??).

But yea, when Glenn retires it will likely go to Oates.

I think you could realistically pay Oates 400k a season and get 200k off the cap. All of a sudden he is great value.

Oh, so is it only one player per squad that can receive the veteran discount?

- Motor Vehicle Allowance
$0.1m – a maximum amount of five motor vehicles may be provided to players in the Top 30 outside of the salary cap. (Valued at $20,000 each).

Yeah I believe it’s 200k total.

Though clubs may be able to divide it amongst eligible players - not sure what the point of that would be as the result on the cap would be the same.

really. but let me correct one thing ... it has tor be classic Oates, not Seibold's Oates lite.

a winger that can get your sets off to a good start, making 150m+ per game and can magically find the line with some amazing acrobatic moves is worth their weight in gold. and up there with the top tier wingers.

that's what Oates offers us

So…what does our forward pack / bench look like next season? I guess the headache gets a little easier if
Bullemor leaves as that’ll free up one spot.

8. Carrigan
9. [Hooker]
10. Haas
11. Riki
12. Capewell
13. Hetherington

14. [Utility]
15. Flegler
16. Robati
17. Experienced Forward

18. Piakura
19. Willison
20. Jensen
21. Kennedy
22. Palasia
