This is a big problem for me. Our guys coming through should be playing together, building trust, communication, understanding of each others' games. If this isn't happening, it really should be.
This is why the recent penrith team has been such a success. They have come through grades playing together since they were 16.

I think some of you need to watch the 2nd half of the Souths Vs Panthers game, and focus on Reynolds. This should help give a more realistic expectation on what to expect in 2022.

Or if you want to enjoy it even more, watch Cleary. He's already better than Andrew Johns and he's just getting started.

What are you saying? I didn’t watch it

His 10 mins after that amazing 40/20 leading up to half time were diabolical and was something any 2020 Bronco would be proud of.

This comp is a joke anyway so it is what it is but he’s a GF winning halfback, is captain in waiting and has a history of guiding his team to the finals more often than not. Compare that to Croft / Milford / Kelly / Drybum - I don’t care if he has bad moments, he’s ten classes above all of those at present.

He’s certainly being treated in the same ‘can do whatever he likes and get away with it’ way.

Most other non-media darlings would have been binned and / or suspended for the ‘non-shoulder charge’ Cleary pulled off last week.

Absolute farce.

Maybe, but a once in a generation player. Will finish on par with Smith, Langer, Slater, Thurston, Lewis, Tallis, etc. For mine, the only one currently playing.

I'm starting to think he might be the most complete halfback I've ever seen. Enjoy him for what he is.

Come on, really? I’m thinking you might be going off way, way too early.

There is an absolute torrent of water to pass under the bridge before he can be considered a more consistently dominant player than other current players like Tedesco and TTurbo, let alone those you’ve mentioned.

He’s good, no doubt. But a couple of good / great seasons don’t make you an all time great. Just ask the bloke wearing the 6 for the Broncos today.

I'm with McHunt on this one. I was hoping Cleary would be another over-hyped NSW future immortal - they seem to find lots of them who end up going nowhere. Unfortunately the more I watch him the more I'm impressed. He can beat you with a pass, short kicking game, long kicking game, (just ask Mansour), and taking on the line. I thought his running game was only so-so in previous seasons but he seems to have gone to another level year this which makes him a much more dangerous player overall.
He's quick between the ears, very good tactically, and he's got plenty of time with ball in hand which only the very best players have. Take him out of the Penrith team and they are only half as good.
I've got to the stage where, as McHunt says, I've just resigned myself to enjoy watching him play.

I’m not about to argue with you, as most of what you are saying is accurate.

But like I’ve already said, time (and good fortune with injuries) is what will determine whether Cleary is as good as you and McHunt are saying.

Lots of players come along and look great for a season or two (which is often helped by those around them knowing and executing their roles), but it’s how they respond to opposition coaches and teams figuring them out and how they develop and change their play that separate the good from the great.

I will say though; if I could choose one player from any team (and I don’t mean to suit our team, just any player to add to any squad), it wouldn’t be Cleary. TTurbo for mine is the best player currently running around. Tedesco is good too, but TTurbo can do everything he can and more.

Those two are great players for sure and I love watching them play. I think the value of a player depends a lot on the particular team. Turbo to the Roosters probably wouldn't add much, as good as he is, but Cleary I think would make them a better team given their halves situation. I'd take TTurbo in a blink for the Broncos with Reynolds as half - I think a gun fullback would transform our team (need a hooker as well). So while TTurbo might be the best player in the comp I'm not so sure he would be the best addition for every side - more a case of horses for courses.

Nope. I'm not. He's the real deal. He's not only a keen student of the game, but he will change the way it's played.

Look how Penrith and NSW went without him, and the immediate difference when he returned. He's not just a brilliant individual and team playmaker, he's one of those rare players who upskills the rest of the team. Like those two Momirovski inside kicks that everyone went crazy over: straight out of the Cleary playbook.

Honestly, I can't rave about him enough. If we were to throw the bank at one player, like the Titans did with Fifita, he's my pick.

I agree but as long as his dad is coach I can't imagine he'll ever be anything other than a 1 club player, and as long as he's fit and healthy, Penrith will remain strong so his dad's job is safe too.

Penrith made a big bet getting Snr chin back to keep Jnr chin happy and it's proven a smart play so far.
