So the signing of Ryan James likely completes our roster for 2022 (unless a train and trial player impresses or a player suddenly becomes available) ... so i think that calls for a team list. this is the team that I would start for round 1, 2022

1. Farnworth
2. Oates
3. Cobbo
4. Stagg
5. Lee
6. Gamble
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Carrigan
9. Paix
10. Haas
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Hethrington

14. Turpin
15. James
16. Robati
17. Flegler - the reason i don't have him starting is i think he offers more impact from the bench than Carrigan, he would be able to keep the momentum going once our starters go off.
Two spots left, apparently. Club also said no to Peachey. Asking too much.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Lee play wing. I can’t imagine him being that good there?

he's actually listed as a winger on the Storm website. that second wing spot was a tough one to decide.

I think it will be (not necessarily what I'd go with but I think it will be barring injuries / suspensions, etc):

1. Niu
2. Oates
3. Staggs
4. Cobbo
5. Farnworth
6. Gamble
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Haas

10. Flegler

Only change id make is probably start Turpin with Paix off the bench as same as Flegler Paix provides more impact than Turpin, bring him on when the opposition fatigues a little.
The 5 jersey is a question mark for me not really sure who I'd put there. Don't know if Brenko was signed as a depth option or a starter

Yeah I can never understand when people start Paix and bench Turpin. It's literally the opposite of what they are most effective as. Turpin should be playing the first 25-30mins, and Paix should then come on. If Paix is killing it, bring Turpin back on to play 13 after he has had a break.

I'm not really sure why it is hard to understand when it has been explained but anyway, Paix isn't ready by any means to play 80 but the idea would be that halfway through the season, he swaps with Turps because hopefully by that stage, he's ready to play longer. If he could end up playing 80 by the end of season, Turps is out the door or stays as back up.

Yeah exactly. Turpin can play that 13 role quite easily. Could even bring Paix on for the 13 and turps slips into that position, which is what happened in one of our last games.

It's easy to understand, it's just wrong. You can play increased minutes without starting.

Playing Paix for 50mins and then brining Turpin on isn't going to do much. If Turpin isn't starting 9, he shouldn't be in the 17.

This I agree with, Turpin shouldn't be in the 17, so once he is usurped by Paix, you bring in a Walters / Kelly / Piakura.

Those 3 would offer more from the bench than Turpin. He is 9 or out. Haven't seen enough from Paix for him to be taking the 9 just yet.

I think you are right with that but given his upward trajectory this year, I would imagine mid-season would be the goal. Who knows, if he keeps this trajectory, he might usurp Turps even earlier.

hopefully with a good pre-season he can usurp Turpin before round 1.

I think the ideal way would be to start Turpin for the first 30, then bring on Paix for the rest of the game, and have Turpin play the last 30mins of the game at lock, especially as we don't really have a gun lock that demands big minutes.

It really depends on Turpin's development, he hasn't adapted to the new style of game as well as I'd hoped. His attack looked a bit better towards the end of the season, it will be interesting how Turps and Paix build a relationship with Reynolds.

I'm not against this, I think it could be a good way to go about things. Turpin could be a decent lock and him and Hetherington could perhaps form an interesting combo moving forward. If we were to go that way, I'd look at something like:

0-30:
9. Turpin
13. Hetherington

31-60:
9. Paix
13. Turpin

61-80:
9. Paix
13. Hetherington

Just a random though but traditionally impact players have been used off the bench when defenders are tiring and the reliable workhorses have been used during the opening “soften up period”.

With the way games play out these days; often decided in the first 20 minutes as the team that starts fastest gets all the momentum and runs away with it, I wonder if there’s merit to turning that old practice on its head.

Instead of bringing impact players on after 30 minutes, instead you want all your X factor and attacking threats on the field early to run away with possession and then bring on the Turpins at the end to defend the lofty leads.

Be interesting to see if they keep Jake after this current contract runs out. My gut feeling is we would have let him go this year if he didnt have a player option, he needs a massive year to win another contract.
