Be interesting to see if they keep Jake after this current contract runs out. My gut feeling is we would have let him go this year if he didnt have a player option, he needs a massive year to win another contract.
He just won the most consistent player, with Kevvie saying a few times throughout the year he was in our top 4 players. I imagine we keep him unless we land Grant/Cheese. He would easily land a gig at another club if Brisbane don't resign, clubs like Titans, Dogs, Warriors, Dragons and possibly even Roosters all have low quality options at 9.

Turpin really looked like he was going to be elite in the pre-covid style game, unfortunately he hasn't developed and doesn't suit the new style of game to be as effective as I and others hoped.

I agree but the club seems to love him. Always gets awards and captaincy etc.

Kevvie says a lot of things that mean very little. I dont think we are that interested in keeping him from a couple of things i heard. We have been extending the contracts of players we want to keep ( his main rival in Paix for example ), Jake had to activate his contract option to be here.

I think outside of the new expansion team, he will struggle to get a regular start anywhere in the NRL. He just isnt good enough apart from his defence. We could always try him in the same role the Cowboys play Cotter, but i dont think Jake is even as good as Cotter is tbh and Cotter is a bigger body as well compared to Jake at lock.

If he cant get back to his form when he took over from Macca ( and he was never that brilliant then, he just wasnt McCulloch ) then i think we will let him go.

He's a popular player and a great bloke, i'm just not convinced if he cant lift his game by a decent amount next year he will get a new deal. Its a shame, but he is a lower tier hooker on his form this year and even at his best he is only average.

Yeah I’m with you. I think Paix has already surpassed him or at least appears to have a higher ceiling. Just need Smith or Grant

Thinking about it a bit more, i think Jakes future is probably going to depend on how Paix develops, and to a lesser extent Packer and Mozer.

Smith has said it will be virtually impossible for him to leave the Storm ... he says:

“To be honest, it’s going to be virtually impossible to say no to the Storm,” Smith said.

“I say that because of what they have done for me as a player and a person.

“I’ve been linked with the Titans, the Tigers and the Bulldogs ... geez, they are all going great at the moment.

“I want to sort my future out sooner rather than later. I want it done sometime during the pre-season, but before I sign anything, I want to be able to address the Storm if I am leaving.

“My preference is to stay here.

“I guess any club is any hope, but it’s just whether I can bring myself to leave the Storm and to be fair, it’s hard to see me doing that.”

Big attitude shift from last year, the boat would be mint.

Did he really say that? Whilst true, you just don’t say that.

Seems like a really humble, respectful bloke…
I thought the same thing.

Probably not a big deal really but a fine line between being a knock about casual funny guy and being disrespectful to other teams (and players in those teams) trying to give you money to represent them.

I know Matty Johns and the rest of the Fox Sports team eat up this hectic cheese bullshit but to me he comes across as a textbook dickhead. Ditto for Munster.

Good player though...

Pretty much; he isn’t really a thinker. I think now he’s realised sharing with Grant isn’t too bad. As long as he can buy Great Northern he’s happy.
I think Smith may have verbalised a hasty thought in asking if he can get out of his contract. Really sharing the hooking role, winning games and playing finals won't be that bad for the next 18 months.

I like that we are leaving two spots open in the Top 30, helps avoid what happened with Walsh last year. If one of the you guns on development contracts or a train and trial bloke kills it, we won't have to wait until round 11 for them to be able to play or have them piss off so they can get a run.

Think Mam will come into the Top 30 next year going of his form and if Mariner is as good as it sounds he might get in the same situation as Walsh, at least now we can fend it off a bit better.

That's a great quote. It's refreshing seeing something other than the robotic "um yeah all teams are great and have a rich heritage and will be competing for a premiership"

Everyone knows those clubs are going shithouse, nothing wrong with saying it.

We had a spot for Walsh in the top 30 ... we just wanted him to develop a bit in the ISC first and earn his spot ... he just decided to take the money and an easier route

P.s. if we can keep Mam on a development contract for a second year, we get a slight Cap discount for him

I anticipate the news articles when storm are set to play those teams next year... fuel to the fire to generate some actual interest in the game... or does that only happen with Broncos players 🤔🤔

Whenever I hear anything about how great and wholesome the Storm is.. whenever I see them trying to infiltrate more of Queensland with their ‘we are the Brady Bunch’ B.S. … I respect them but I can’t wait for them to buzz off back to Melbourne.

TRANSLATION: I am insanely jealous of their prolonged success and I desperately want the Broncos to be what they are and more
