POST GAME [Round 1, 2022] Broncos vs Rabbitohs

His effort to dive on the ball near our line with 9 minutes to go has gone almost unmentioned save a few people in the live thread.

They see what they want to see. Or rather, don’t.
It's not about seeing what you want, it's about having a different opinion.
I definitely saw Turpin's defence and because of it (and KW's focus on D) I totally understand the possibility of picking him for R2, and suspect that will probably happen.
Looking at the past couple of seasons and future planning, I'd probably prefer to go another way, but I'm not going to throw a tantrum if (when) Turps is picked :)

Most coaches in the NRL will build their team with a focus on defense before they go for the attacking option, otherwise you end up with a team like the Gold Coast Titans

Happy for Turpin to punch out a solid 60 minutes and then have a more attacking option on the bench for the other 20. It does make him an easy scapegoat though if we end up leaking points because he’s not the bloke to creatively rip the opposition to pieces and get us back in the game

And you've just described half this forum.

I still think a good way to maintain the benefits of turpin's defence but get greater creativity at 9 during the game is to start turpin at 9 to take the initial sting out of the game. When kobe goes off for a breather, have paix/walters, (depending who is playing 6) go to 9 and turpin fall back into the ball playing 13.

I know turpin is only small, but he is amongst our stronger defenders so I dont think that is an issue.

When kobe goes on for his second stint, he can replace turpin.

I remember them doing something similar last season in the last game or two when Paix would come on and Turpin be playing like a lock.
Would be handy to have him sniff around for offloads and swing the pass wide and get our backs involved off some second phase after Haas had already attracted 3 defenders

Happened in the last game of 2021 against Newcastle when payne went down, but turpin broke his jaw and didn't come back out in the second half.

Just watching the Fox replay now. Ennis is really talking Souths up at half time. “Souths aren’t done with their points scoring yet” - oh yes they are, big fella.

I actually really like Ennis as a person and as a player while he was still playing but **** me he is an awful commentator/analyst.

He was always Macca 2.0. The only thing he's had to pull the wool over everyone's eyes is that he wasn't Andrew McCullough.

And you know, 350k cheaper. The expecations aren't as high when he isn't draining 650k from the cap just to make 50 tackles a week.
That was never really the Macca argument though. Very rarely did anyone say he sucks and earns so much. It was mostly that he sucks. And so does Turpin

I was pleased with Oates in this game. He showed why Kevvie is persisting with him instead of giving the wing spot to Pereira.

He was always there putting his hand up for the tough carries coming out of our end. He didn't make any errors, and no issues defensively.

But that try. That try is why you persist with Corey Oates.

Pereira doesn't score that.

Everything you said is right except the last sentence.

Most wingers score that try because most are much, much quicker off the mark than Oates, so they’re a yard or more in front of him and don’t even need the dive.

Those wingers you speak of don't play for the Broncos.
