PRE-GAME Round 1 - Broncos vs Eels

I'm calling BS on all that from Yobbo.

His manager can sniff around all he wants and try and use his demotion as leverage, but the plan has always been that he develop in ISC before coming into first grade.

Just because Seibold is a fucking derp that crumbled to media pressure doesnt mean he has no more development in him.

He's played 6 ISC games in 2 years.

I think Dearden would be happy to play ISC as long as he's paid accordingly.

If he gets a 2-3yr contract on $400k-$500k then he's secured and able to develop with reduced stress.

The pressure then goes back onto Milf and Croft as to who wants the long term half role beside him, which I think has been the question since Croft signed last year

The media are simply using the situation to create hysteria for clicks.
- "Dearden will walk because of demotion"
- Leads into "Former Broncos legend claims youngsters are entitled brats and need to earn their place"
- Leads into "Kevvie responds to legends claim of entitlement "
- Leads into "Kevvie laughs off suggestions of entitlement"

And so on and so forth

I'm sure behind the scenes Kevvie is letting him know that he wants him down in ISC to develop away from the spot light and reduced pressure of ISC.

And then the next best thing Kevvie could do is to head down to the Souths Logan games to watch Dearden personally... and make sure he's seen doing it. Of course that leads to "Kevvie spotted at Souths game to watch next Alfie, intensifying pressure on Croft to hold his position".... but **** the media!!

Kevvie just needs to make sure he's communicating with the players and then **** around with the media to put the pressure on himseld and off the players.

Also dont put Dearden, Croft or Milf up for a media sessions, because you can anticipate the shit questions they'd receive... instead just chuck clowns in front of them and tell them to pass off the questions (hell make a game of it to see which player can backhand the questions the best)... put the assistant coaches in front of them... or better yet put no one in front of them.

Give them nothing and just keep laughing off all their garbage questions.
All of this.

Dearden debuted in the NRL a year younger than Alfie, after winning the Peter Sterling medal the previous year, and the comp's a heck of a lot tougher these days. Injury hampered his growth massively, and he's had **** all reserve grade due to Covid. He absolutely did the right thing by accepting a meeting with his childhood idol Thurston who blossomed much later, and checking out the Cowboys' setup if only to put his mind at rest about signing his life away to the current wooden spooners, a club with a notoriously bad atmosphere. Not only did he get the blessing from the club before doing that, he announced before the start of season that he wants to stay with the Broncos. Honestly, anyone giving this kid shit for having his heart in the wrong place is just being a **** for the sake of it.

I'm happy to go down with this ship.

Yeah that's a fair call but I'm hoping a few things go to change that outcomes.
Milford is being given responsabilty to drive the attack as he sees fit and is apparently fitter than he has been in years.
I'm not expecting him to be anything more than a turnstile in defence he has always been but his attacking game in general relies on two things. Confidence and being able to enjoy his playing.
I think those two things are set so we may see a resurgence. If that happens, whoever plays in the spine with him will have an infinitely easier time. Time will tell.
Well yes, I'm hoping this year will be different, just like I hoped the same last year and the year before, for exactly the same reasons. This time, I'm a little less starry eyed but still hopeful. In some ways, it might be a relief if he flops completely rather than put in his trademark middling performances that just keep him in the team.

Croft, Milford, Herbie, Mead

So According to Travis Meyn of the Courier Mail ... Kevvie has put his career on the line by naming Croft to start over Dearden ... because the FANS want Dearden to be given the 7 jumper

Why wouldn't we pick the bloke on a 15 game losing streak

Dearden needs time in Q Cup to improve. Learn to be the dominant half and then move up when he’s ready. This is what was supposed to happen last year.

He should be forming combinations with Reece Walsh and other reserves in the same Q Cup team too. We need to bring back the Clydesdales. There is no benefit for us from spreading our players throughout numerous teams in the Q Cup.

Off topic, but if you put all our reserves in the same team and they start winning every year how is that a bad thing for the Q Cup? Fans will flock to see Broncos players dominate and we learn how to be winners from a young age again.

I can't remember the Clydesdales being too dominant. I remember there were weeks they'd struggle to field a team and it was ultimately a money pit, especially when Bennett would pick players out of better teams.

The less said about the Aspley Broncos the better.

I imagine them being too dominant and the rest of the comp suffering would be a reason 1910 would throw out there for this to not happen. But the benefits of having our young players learning together, like every single other club in the competition has, would far outweigh the problems it would cause.

https://www.broncos.com.au/news/2021/03/09/team-list-round-1-croft-farnworth-win-race-for-eels/

Brodie Croft has been given the nod to partner Anthony Milford in the halves, while Herbie Farnworth has proven his fitness for Friday night’s season opener against Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium.

Croft and young playmaker Tom Dearden have both had big preseasons and were neck-and-neck to fill the No.7, but coach Kev Walters has leaned towards Croft’s experience and strong trial form for Round 1.

In the centres, Farnworth ran unhindered during today’s training session at the Clive Berghofer Field to show he has fully recovered from surgery to remove some painful tissue from his chest.

Playmaker Milford (hand) and prop Tom Flegler (shoulder) also trained strongly and will take their place in the 17 to take on the Eels.

Experienced middle forward John Asiata will make his Broncos debut off the interchange, while bullocking young forward Ethan Bullemor has been rewarded for a huge preseason with the final spot on the bench.

Friday night’s Round 1 clash with the Eels will be the first time since 2015 that members and fans get a chance to see the Broncos start a season on home turf.

Typical sloppy Bornocs they did eveything but list the actual team in the 'Team Announcement' post. Amateur hour goes on and on.

It's more the history of the Clydesdales and what brought Brisbane into disbanding the franchise in the first place. There's some merit into having the players play together but Melbourne have shown they can still be dominant while splitting their players up. There's no reason why the other Queensland teams can't succeed.
