No Asiata has no dummy half skills apart from passing... it’s cruel on a big bopper to have to bend over if anything unwanted happens it will probably means Niu or Croft goes to Hooker and either Glenn goes to centre’s or Asiata goes to half
I may be in the minority here but I like the idea of asiata going to half for a bit with croft at hooker. Variety, variety, variety. When your attack sucks as much as pours has under pressure through a few curve balls at the opposition, nothing to lose...

I have faith in Turps. I think Croft will have been given the duties of stirring Moses up, once Moses gets heated he all but implodes.

Weve got the parra pack covered except for Lodge on Paulo - If they fire......If....
I love the Broncos but I'm also a realist. Our forward unit doesn't come close to theirs, especially with the impact of no Haas.
Paulo > TPJ
RCG > Lodge
Matterson > Glenn
Lane > Riki
Brown > Carrigan
Parra are a blend of power, mobility and size. In comparison whilst we have the potential to be competitive on our day, we are accommodating a rookie, a captain past his prime and two props with little game time over the past year.

Turpin played 80mn playing halfback numerous times. He could try disprove the myth here that he can't do it at hooker. New season, new outlook - be optimistic for our fine spritely hooker.

But if he does burn out, the obvious game plan now will be for him to guide the team to 3 tries up by the 65th min, then rest up while Glenn and Asiata close out the last 15mn.

Asiata is shorter than Cam Smith (where’s his name btw?)

I dont think you need to rest Turpin. B Smith plays 80 alright, and there’s plenty of ways to give the 9 a rest in game. Let Milf play hooker for 2 or 3 tackles in our own half, let the backs take the first 3 hit ups on kick returns like Bennett coached his backs to do at origin.

I like the team list. I hope Mead takes some of the bombs at fullback for Jermayne.

Carrigan to workhorse for the opening 30 before John comes on and plays the rest, sending Patt to the prop rotation. Teo brings experience on the bench, no Oates gumming things up. Well earned bench spot for Bullimore.

Dearden needs time in Q cup to learn how to close our games with his decision making.

Im actually excited to see Milf back! The great thing about @Wolfie ’s prank is that it made me realise I would miss the little bastard.

@Huge will be happy to see the #19

Win lose or draw Kevvie's first team has answered quite a few questions. He has rewarded effort (Bullemor), he has no time for mediocrity (Oates dropped), he understands what a developed half looks like (Tom back to ISC) and at this stage he seems to be giving each player a chance to show what they're capable of (Turps the full 80?).

We keep hearing he has worked on our defence all through the off-season. This is where I'd like to see improvement. Talk, as they say, is cheap. We have a team that has flogged us relentlessly in recent seasons first up. What a great test to see where we're really at.

Let's Go Broncos!!!

Depends what other teams offer him... I also have no idea what he's currently on.

If it's only 2 years it's not a huge risk... just depends if he backs himself to increase that contract.

It's really hard for us at the moment, because putting a value on Dearden, Coates, Niu, Bullemor, etc. is hard given the loss of ISC last year.

In a perfect world those guys would've played ISC every week in their preferred positions against men to see how they perform and how their skills translate to a different quality of opponent before we have to offer them contracts.

With no ISC form to gauge them on you have to price based on potential and how they go in practice, which is fraught with danger... but reasonable contracts with low durations (1-2 years) may be a viable approach to get us through this shit period of mass free agents at lowish risk, and reassess at the end of next year

Paying Dearden 800k to a million over 2 years is a lot of money for a player who has been no more than solid. I think we need to start looking at getting our spine in order with players who have shown a bit more personally. In a lot of ways we have made a rod for our own back really with these young blokes by paying others so much who have also shown nothing. I really think we need to be more selective with who gets these over the top contracts. Agree totally with you though we need to start handing out 2 year deals more often.

Its not just the defence tho, its our handling and errors, that's what killed us in the trial, the defence in the first half was improved, it's when we kept giving the ball back to the Cows after errors early in the set that we fatigued and fell into old habits.

Very true dat. I said last week after the trial Kevvie needed to drill them all week on ball security as it will cost us lost momentum and ultimately will lead to us leaking tries.

Cmon kevvie. You’re our only hope

Agree 100 %. Tom has a lot of admirers because he had a crack and didn't suck. In reality he has been nothing but solid.
ISC is the best place for him but it's easy to see we could be getting him ready for another team.

Call me an optimist, but if you shuffle the deck to:

TPJ v RCG - if TPJ fires, RCG will go missing.
Carrigan V Brown - Carrigan has the brains, cooler head and better fitness/speed
Glenn V Lane - Glenn doesnt have it in speed or strength, but he has it in defence. Lane always wide runs and hunts for an open shoulder, jam his space and you've shut him down.
Riki V matterson - Matterson has the experience, but im backing Riki on athletic ability. Matterson is barely big enough for a centre.
Lodge V paulo - Paulo wins this one.
