Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans - Post Match Discussion

Re: Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans Post-game discussion

I thought Lowrie did well. Stagg offers zilch though, its annoying that Granville doesn't get a go because I reckon his speed is a great asset to have against tiring forwards.

I posted this in the Live Game chat but will ask again - does anyone know what Granville has done to be in the ****house?

A bit like Slyney last year. Played a few games - went ok then never seen again.

It really is a shame that we lost against the roosters, titans and Souths. Without those losses I think we wouldn't be as critical of tonight's performances. Those three games will haunt us.

To be fair. There isn't a game this season that I haven't thought we were a chance of winning. Poor execution and decisions in the final 10mins of those games really let us down. If there is one positive to come from tonight it's we put the game to bed!!

honestly if you are using the line "2nd place team" to describe the titans then you are making excuses for the broncos

titans arent making the 8 and with the injuries pre match + mid game they would not have beaten any other team in this competition tonight simple as that.

terrible game, broncos looked shot at least three times on the left and only didn't concede try's through a couple of lucky knock-ons.

Hoffman continues to be a black hole for the ball.

Wallace and McGuire were solid, Vidot had some strong carries.

attack was pretty disorganised and needed to straighten up a bit, there were gaps there they just couldn't work it out, one play in particular on the titans line the titans had about 2 players covering their whole right side and the broncos went left.

Barba's positioning for the kick is still a bit suspect, he should have taken the majority of them on the full tonight but always seemed late, the titans had one in the second half from about half way, henry staggered a bit before kicking it giving barba an eternity to read it going straight down the middle and the ball still found grass.

Contact was a lot better than last week, some real strong tackles in the first half.

They are a fair way off the pace atm.

Mate they had about 3 players left on the field.

Like I said, underwhelming.

They were down a few players due to injury, we were down a few due to Hook's "use" of the bench.

Honestly? They are the 2nd placed team. They may play ugly as sin, but they've got that far by playing (and sticking) to their strengths, drawing the opposition into their game plan and imposing their will from there. Sure, they lost a lot of leadership in Harrison and Bird, but their gameplan isn't overly reliant on any one player.

I think they've overachieved thus far, and have found most of their matches unbearable, but our relative positions on the ladder aren't exactly misleading.

Would they have beaten any other team in the competition tonight? Debatable, but I'd concede they would have been equally competitive, if not more so with: Raiders, Sharks, Knights, Dragon.

Re: Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans Post-game discussion

i saw twice barba was completely peeved off at hoffmans non passing.

how the **** can this continue? seriously? it is embarassing
Exactly my thoughts. We only started to get backi I the game when Hoggman wasn't involved in the attack. Also thought Hunt was Ok tonight and also Glenn and Todd Lowie contributed heaps. However our attack in the red zone is very hit and miss ,mainly due to Hoggman who fFS should be sent to the wing forthwith. Two points are like Gold to us this year so let's at least be grateful for the fact that the boys somehow got the job done.

Agreed on Hoffman. You can't fault his level of effort but he's really out of his depth. A couple of rounds in I thought he might have some (if limited) upside if he could judiciously pick when to catch people unawares with the odd pass. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have the knack for it.

I always thought Hoffman's limited input from fullback was partially due to poor performances from our halves. With good ball playing from both halves, he could potentially be injected into the play where his strengths are best utilised, while with average contributions from Wallace, Price, + Norman, he was found wanting. Given Barba's role in our side, I wonder if we might be better served swapping him and Hoffman?

i said when they were leading the ladder outright with a negative for and against that they wont make the 8 and i stand by it. they are not a top 8 team. their run of scoring tries from intercepts and fluke kicks has ended.

argue all you want but they will finish 10th - 13th.

Re: Round 10 - Broncos vs Titans Post-game discussion

Shocking first half, good second half

Hoffman needs to be on wing his a hand full. Just not at 5/8. Rest of the team played well.
Totally agree, Hoffman is elusive, unfortunately the play breaks down whenever he gets the ball, not ideal for a 5/8. Perhaps Griffin should bring Barba in closer to the play at 5/8 and drop Hoffman back to fullback. Barba would need a wingman in defence though, not one of his strong points.

I thought Stagg had retired.!He did Ok tonight and might come in handy at origin time so I don't mind him having a run at this stage of the season but I also think jake would have been more value.

I am hoping Hodges coming off was just a precaution.

He was limping and looked like he was in pain. He clutched at the left ankle, which he has injured before.

The only thing I was happy about in that performance is the fact that the winner was decided before full time. I didn't have to sit through another close one that went down to the final whistle.

It was a very sloppy and mediocre performance and I fear what would have happened to us had Titans been at full strength. They need to turn it around fast, because their next 3 games are extremely tough ones.

Tigers in Sydney, Manly in Brisbane and Raiders in Canberra.

Realistically, I can only see 1 out of 3 there..

And Hoffman, he REALLY needs to go. FFS, is it so hard for him to pass the damn ball? That's all we want from him really, is to just pass the fucking ball..

Believe the report is that Hodges rolled his ankle.

Should be right.

Phew! I think they can do it without him for Origin I. It would be nice to see him take a week off and rehab, given his early return from that Achilles.

You got to give it Hodges. He is just getting game fit but he just makes things happen. I would definitely have him in origin on tonight's performance even though he is still not at his best.

Justin Hodges insists he is not the latest State of Origin star to come under a fitness cloud for the series.
Hodges threw a remarkable between-the-legs pass for winger Dale Copley to score a crucial try in the 22-8 win over Gold Coast at Suncorp Stadium but was unable to finish the game due to a twisted ankle.
The 31-year-old, dogged by Achilles injuries in recent series, admits he panicked at first but insisted he would be fit for the interstate series opener on May 28.
“I rolled it a bit,” Hodges said.
“It’s not too bad. It’s starting to free up now. There’s always a fright when you come back from a major injury and it gets a little bit sore.
“I just came off to have a rest.
“I think I’ll be fine. It was just precautionary coming off. There were about 10 minutes to go so I just wanted to come off and have a rest, just got a bit lazy.”
Discussing his tunnel-ball pass to Copley in the 57[SUP]th[/SUP] minute, he said: “I just noticed they were all crowding around the play-the-ball
“I just looked at Dale and gave him a little bit of a finger and luckily he caught it. It was a bit low, but…
“It was just spur of the moment. I knew if I faced that way, they’d put a defender there.”

It was a win, but it doesn't really feel like one.

Same old performance really, we just managed to come home with the points this time.

I just don't enjoy watching us anymore. There's no excitement.

Ah well, hopefully we can build on that. Tigers in Campbelltown will be a tough one.
