POST GAME [Round 11, 2023] Broncos vs Storm

If they really want to continue with this rubbish, just make it as simple as possible and as clear as possible.

Basically, take an immediate injury out of the equation unless it is deemed a deliberate act. If it is a clear deliberate act that is verifiable, that’s a sin bin, regardless of the result.

Also, if a player goes down holding his leg / neck / head or any other part, he automatically goes off for 20 minutes AND it costs an interchange. Make it more if you have to. Yes this is harsh but it is black and white. If it is a forward between minutes 15 and 60, he is gone for the game regardless. Do it for 6 weeks and see how it goes.

I feel confident diving will miraculously disappear.
Couldn't agree more. Need a strong deterrent to stop cowards taking a dive.
NAS should have been sent from the field and fined for bringing the game into disrepute when the replay showed Patty never went near the ankle he was clutching.

The optics don't look too good for the mother at home wondering whether or not it's safe to allow little Johnny to play Rugby League after she tunes in on the Friday night and sees a 100kg backrower launching with his shoulder at some blokes jaw and the only real thing that happened is "the player got it wrong".
I think that is on the game though, they should be pushing hard on touch and OZ tag, because for decades now they know this is the barrier to entry when it comes to this sport, once they get to 15-16 they get a mans body and it's not an issue anymore and plenty of players have proven this is a viable path for first grade especially for spine positions.

There isn't much skill in tackle in the young ages which are dominated by islander kids who have a mans body by age 10.

if NRL used their huge TV deal money to invest in a strategy around this it would pay massively within 10 years I think the player pool would multiply ten fold.

Even more so if they also get a professional 2nd tier which is another crucial thing needed going forward.

I'm gone, and I will come back if I feel like it and you ain't gonna stop me either fellow old man!
If Vlandys is gone, I will be back for sure.
I will pop in from time to time because you lot are good value, but **** the NRL in its current state.

I just can't put up with the incompetence of the officials week in and week out.

Bye ,,, don`t let the door hit your pedantic ass on the way out .

Annesley has confirmed that the Bunker fucked us. he said:

“Certainly the decision with Carrigan hasn’t helped the clarity around hip-drops, but it was simply an error by the Bunker,”

“There are effectively three elements to a hip drop.

“They are a “grab”, where a defender grabs hold of the ball carrier; a “twist”, they rotate their body when falling to the ground, and the “drop”, they drop the bulk of their body weight falling directly onto the legs.

“In the Carrigan incident two of those three elements were there, but the bulk of the body weight did not fall directly on (Asofa-Solomona’s) legs.

“If the Bunker had been in any doubt about all three elements, they should have placed it on report, but Carrigan should not have been sin-binned.

“Even though he made contact with the legs, most of his body weight was absorbed by the ground.

“What Carrigan did on Thursday night wasn’t a hip drop.”
Well it’s not good enough. There needs to be accountability.

Such a clever insult. Only took you a whole day to come up with that one huh genius?

If you are going to throw insults around at least put some effort in to it lol.

Anyway, I'm gonna stay just for you princess.

I get your pain though the game is straight up fucked at the moment, but it does allow the odd game to play out with the right ref, I think because our team is good it's still worth watching we are very exiting team to watch since Walsh came back home.

all blame to the ref situation atm and not our team.

Yea it's the officiating that's frustrating, but I kind of feel sorry for them as well, as they are being given loose definitions to enforce.

This is why Bill Harrigan is the best Ref of all time:

He just understood the game

Essentially a fight happened off the NSW **** bailey and he said to both Bailey and Webcke: ''you got it out of your system, that's good lets play a game a footy'' penalty to us.

I like it but honestly you can get rid of diving in one simple step without having to go that far.

All they have to do is make it so the bunker is ONLY permitted to rule on tries and captains challenges. They are FORBIDDEN to intervene at any other time.

The only reason players dive is to get the bunker involved, take away that possibility and the diving problem is solved, as no player will stay down and risk losing momentum for their team if there is no chance they gain an advantage. (Unless they are genuinely hurt of course)

If there is even a doubt about something, 10 in the bin should not be the default option by the bunker.
They need to be briefed on being close to 100% certain before affecting a games result by binning someone.

A penalty and report is just fine for almost all but the most professional and dangerous of infractions.

"People keep saying they’re confused about what’s a hip drop. It’s not confusing. Just take the time to understand it."

"It’s not that complicated"

"I’m bemused by this confusion"

and now:

"it was simply an error by the Bunker,”

-Graham Annesley

Absolutely agree! The bunker reviewing every play just does not make sense to anyone other than the idiots in charge and for game manipulation purposes. I also like that the bunker should be in a vacuum with no commentary or any other crowd sounds but there is too much common sense in this for the NRL to do it. Plus the more Vlandys gets the NRL in bed with gambling, the incentive will always be there to keep the stupidity going.

Exactly! Plus, think about the optics as they often say. You've got Reimis Smith turning a Broncos player upside down and hand between the legs and that is just a penalty. You've got Carrigan who 'maybe' (and in hindsight didn't) did a hip drop where he ends up next to a guy's ankle and he gets 10 in the bin. It isn't hard to work out, even for someone who knows nothing about the game, which of those is more dangerous and reckless and yet it is the lesser punished one.

“If the Bunker had been in any doubt about all three elements, they should have placed it on report, but Carrigan should not have been sin-binned.

I think this will be the start of the hip drop wind down and players will not be sent for 10 minutes anywhere near as often as they have been. Shame Brisbane had to be the turning point.
