Round 11 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Post Match Discussion

I love that the most cohesive we have looked in attack and Parker's best conversion attempt all happens in the final seconds of an unwinnable game

i dunno what to make of that. just seemed like we didnt go out there to win the game. much of the same crap we've put up for most of the season. really i just think the hunger wasnt there. we dont seem to be there for each other. support in both attack and defense seems lacking at times.

It's just disappointing.

The forwards, outside of Parker who is just a champ, were terrible.
Hodges is capable of some great individual plays, but in between them he's a liability.
Maranta is a derpotato.
Kahu seems like a terrible defender, but his attacking game can be quite good.
McCullough's passing out of dummy half is so slow that I think half of our creativity goes away just because of it.

Griffin just isn't working out IMO. The consistency, the motivation, the proper use of the bench and attack plans are all largely his jobs, and he's failing miserably at them.

You do realise half the bulldogs were in the fight?

All the forwards need a rocket up their arses, they were horrendous, making no metres and always getting pushed back, which ultimately cost us the game. Maybe we will do better with the new forward pack that origin will force on us.

Disappointing, this was one of those games where we gave it a fair shake but certain things just didn't go our way (Barba's first try, ref calls) and we just gave up too much cheap ball. Dogs forwards monstered ours and we simply didn't have an answer.

Will check a replay before making any big conclusions (still need to check a replay of last week too to finalise my votes) but I was impressed with Hoffman & Thaiday in a beaten side. Parker had a solid game too but came up with some weak options.

Hunt is a frustrating player to watch. Always appears to be a buck short off doing something where you can say 'look at this play here sceptics'. I still thought he showed some good awareness and that try to Pritchard at the death was really unfortunate.

Overall, I believe this game was the perfect encapsulation of where we're at. We're not embarrassing ourselves out there but we're simply not playing with the confidence or consistency to be one of the better teams. We're a middle of the road team who shows up in patches.

Can't win if hook keep picking shit players. Maranta is useless. J Wallace make one important mistake every game. Macca is shit as aways. Hunt was very disappointing. P Wallace didn't have a good game. Gillet and Glenn were very quiet. Refs were poor again but I still blame Hook.

Sums it up really. We are probably the best middle of the road team, and judging by the fact we aren't buying anyone we will be for a long time

I don't know what's more depressing to watch, our pathetic attack or our goalkicking.

Not many positives from this match but I have to give mentions to Hunt, Maranta and Parker, they all put there hand up all night and while they may have made some mistakes the effort was there which is more than you can say for most of the other guys. I thought Wallace also looked good in his stint on the field apart from that early mistake. Once again our wrestling was absolutely shit and they got a huge roll on and we just weren't able to recover from that. Also games like this show why Thaiday shouldn't be captain, his efforts were labored in the first 10 minutes and didn't get better from there.

One of the things I try and coach the kids each week is to play to the whistle, ignore any circus act around you and just keep playing as long as the ref hasn't stopped it.

The Broncos last try was a perfect example of that and it's great to know they have something most U6 teams know worked out. It's funny since Marantas first try in NRL was also a play to the whistle moment. It's a quality in a player that goes unnoticed by most people, Hodges,Parker and Maranta all showed it again.

Oh can we not go into this 'we haven't signed the 4-5 players on the market, we're not buying anybody' agenda for one week, please?
