Round 11 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Post Match Discussion

Watching the replay. Ennis was just so quick the way he directs the play to runners on either side, who then pass before the 5th, unlike us. I just cant come at the praise for Macca when I watch Ennis, Farah and Luke play, individually, and the way they direct the play.

We don't pass nearly enough except when we put on, inconsistently, the 2nd man plays. (Hoffman's try tonight was a gem. Just don't do it enough.)

Is this not a coaching issue? Or are we just slack, in which case, what is the coaching staff doing?

We did it last year, I mean, pass even on the first, 2nd and/or 3rd play the balls instead of running one out. It worked well last year. What has happened?

The inconsistency is so infuriating. We can do it, but we don't.

From what I saw we lost 4 tries to 3 without our best prop, Parkers goal kicking didn't help but we hardly got hammered. We're just missing a star player who can turn games for us.

23 years as a Broncos supporter, this is the most pissed off I have been at the club ever.

The entire story of the modern day Broncos was told tonight when Gillet made that clean line break, f**kING INTENTIONALLY SLOWED DOWN to pass it to Granville, who had 60 metres of open air in front of him, and STILL we get ran down 30 metres out. What the f**k happened to speedster Granville?? Our team has nothing but snails in its ranks who couldn't hope to match Barba or Morris.

I am seriously fed up. Wallace can f**k off; Griffin and Gee can f**k off; Maranta can f**k off; Gillet and McC can f**k off; Norman thankfully IS f**king off and the rest need a serious kick in the arse except for Hoffman. We're a shadow of our former selves and we had BETTER have a major signing coming or Brisbane can say goodbye to those membership numbers we always like bragging about. Soft, ill disciplined and f**king useless.

what we're missing is a star coach

Life after Lockyer was always going to be tough.

Macca defended well as per usual. The problem is he can't organize our forwards for ****. Slow service out of dummy half and no vision, urgency or clue.

Very poor post. Macca got the forwards moving tonight & had plenty of urgency.

Gee whiz spwn, I think you're being a bit generous mate!

Maybe I'm being a bit irrational because I did a four hour round trip to sit in the fucking freezing cold, but I thought that performance was atrocious and it left me thoroughly pissed off.

When is someone going to step up and sort this side out? They turn up once every five weeks FFS.

Bunch of pretenders.

I feel like I've reached my lowest point as a Broncos supporter. Really fucked off with the shit we've been dished up this season.

More than anything what we lack is ambition.

Exactly. Back in the day, the Broncos were at the forefront of basically everything to do with rugby league... now we're content to be just another run of the mill club.

Mediocrity, here we come.

As usual, all the toys are everywhere except in the cot. :001_rolleyes:

It was always going to be a slugfest in that weather, and with their big forward pack, the dogs were clearly at an advantage.
Despite that, we could've been 3 tries to 1 up at half time, were it not for the unlucky foot on the line from Hoffman and the clueless Maranta when it comes to finding the try line.
Speaking of Lachlan, yes, it was a coat hanger, and yes it stops you on your tracks, but Maranta's head shouldn't have been there in the first place. It should've been down because his body should've been low, ready to dive to the try line!
I don't dislike the kid, and he does an honest job out there, especially in defence catching bombs, but FMD he does not have one attacking instinct bone in his body...

That high tackle was one of several refs blunders that cost us dearly, a few of them at absolutely critical moments of the game, calling strips against us that weren't, but missing the ones that should go in our favour, leaving Morris on the field after a blatant professional foul, and the cherry on top was the knock on from Pritchard that led to his try.

This doesn't invalidate the fact that we were poor in passages of the game, dropped too much ball, were dominated by their forwards, and our line was sluggish in defence, barely moving up and allowing the big dogs boppers to gain momentum and bend our line.
As others have said, it's also almost unforgivable to leave small blokes alone facing big forwards while defending out try line. Communication went wrong several times there.
Also, as others have said, I find it intolerable that our halves were forced to take hit-ups coming out of trouble. Seriously, WTF? :glare:

I don't think we were that bad when we got the ball in attacking position, we had some good moves out there, but we didn't "dictate terms" nearly often or long enough, either because of a refs blunder or because of our own.

Individually, Hoffman was for mine the best Bronco by far, and I thought Alex Glenn was actually quite good tonight as well as Hala during his stints. Kahu had one mistake, still needs to get his bearings in defence, but scored a great try and was threatening out there.
Hunt was too timid again, which is too bad as he shows great natural awareness to be where the ball is, and his long kicking game actually impressed me tonight. Norman was a soft **** as usual, but had a few good moments in attack, like Wallace, who keeps getting belted and getting up. He may not be the flashiest player out there, but everything about him screams Bronco in the way he gives 110% for that jersey and his colleagues every single time.

Speaking of, who was the Dogs **** that threw punches at Wallace while he was on the ground and created that stink that ended up with our last try?

The rest of the team was frankly average, Parker the usual workhorse, Hodges in the good, the bad and the ugly, same thing with Gillett and Macca, while the rest of the forwards were just not good enough.

Does Wallace get a try assist for lying on the ground getting punched therefore taking half the dogs team out of the equation? I wished that someone from our team would've smacked fucking Reynolds. That kid is a wanker of the highest order.

Way too tough on Maranta who I thought played quite well and was brave under the high ball. Also, he picked up a heavy knock in the first few minutes of the game and had a dead arm for most of the match. The refs were very poor and it seemed to be that we were trying hard to not infringe in the tackles but the Dogs seemed to get away with pretty much anything. Ennis was good and better than his opposite and the little grub got his way. Thaiday is utterly useless in the front row and the first time he was picked in that position I thought it was a misprint !

The commentary team should have made more of the high shot on Maranta who should not have to duck his head and dive. It was blatant and close to a penalty try. I wished Maranta had stayed down after the shot. A penalty would be a certainty and instead we concede a try seconds later. We lack big muscle and the broncos have always had a few big guys but in recent seasons we have gone away from a winning philosophy. Hodges tried hard, Parker too and I do not blame his goal kicking as he never got the same easy kicks as the Dogs did. Twice during the game we took taps without kicking for touch, what's with that?

Effort was there tonight but poor reffing and lousy conditions made the job too hard. 6 and a half out of 10

He just has no idea how to finish a try. He has no attacking ability at all.

What I love the most is posts that start with. "Diehard supportor of 25 years and have been through the highs and lows with this club"

Then launch straight into the "sack the coach, sack the CEO, sack the whole team, change the name, change my nappy."

Seriously a few deep breaths wouldn't hurt I reckon.
