Round 11 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Post Match Discussion

Hunt has played 70 odd first grade games but he doesn't seem confident enough to demand his share of the ball, when he is in the halves. He needs to step up more if he wants to be a long term option.

Broncos kicking game seemed very rushed tonight at key moments.

Parker was outstanding once again. Our best forward by a mile.

Yes, best by a mile but outstanding? He should be running wide - straight and hard looking, to offload, with support, not stepping back into the middle.

Or he plays in and up the middle.

Would have been good if Gillett actually kept running

Would have been better if he had more support as someone else posted. He was being run down. Wasn't it just Granville in support?

Considering how the pack was manhandled, for him to make those kind of metres is impressive.

Even when Prince has been in the side the ball has hardly gone down the right.

Yes, run down by Josh Reynolds. Reynolds ran down everything today. We have nobody who shows the kind of hussle and urgency that that kid shows.

They also lacked leadership, why tap and use up 4 tackles when they could have kicked for touch and get a free ride up the field. Thaiday was gone after 13mins tonight and was quiet for most of the game, rarely getting back on side until after the 2nd hitup. Although he may not be playing his preferred position, the captaincy imo has gelded him, gone is any aggression he once had. He is trying to be a captain in the Lockyer mould rather than the Tallis mould and its hindering his aggression. One strong aggressive run or tackle is better than 5 laboured efforts. The side has perspiration, it needs inspiration.

Yeah not sure how we think making 30 metres with a forward pack like ours then giving it to our halves on the 5th at the 50 metre mark is ever going to end in points

Well, isn't it a question of: the players do what they are coached to do, or they don't.

Somehow, I think the game plan needs a little fine tuning, with someone on the field calling the shots

It's because our star right centre has the habit of taking the second last tackle of the set which completely telegraphs which side it's going down.

At least twice he had a head start out of marker.

The problem is, we will do this. We'll scrape or way into the 8, get knocked out round one, and nothing will change

True, missing it would help expose things like they did in 2010.

I knew this would be a tough season but some of the efforts have been hard to swallow so far.

My point is Gillett could have run further before passing. Instead he gave up and passed

I agree and the problem was one of a few things, either Wallace never got set for a kick and was too flat to compose himself, or McCullough took the wrong option passing to him when he was never in a position to receive it, or Hunt was too passive and should have taken more responsibility or McCullough himself should be taking more responsibility this stage in his career and kick more out of dummy half and provide us with greater variety.

Maybe, but wouldn't it have been so nice to have Dugan in support. Where were the backs by the way?

The Dogs were just to good for us tonight, they got a good roll on through their big forwards which put us on the back foot. I thought our attack was poor as we didn't make their defence work hard enough and we were to predictable as well. Got Mick Hanc0ck's autograph on my retro jersey and a photo with him which made up for it.

Basically like the Rabbitohs game except the Bulldogs were worse.

Neither team was that good tonight.
