Round 11 Discussion

Has Turpin actually been bad for us at 9? He's hardly had extended time there yet. Been injured and had to play at 7

Madge is doing a good job of putting the pieces together, my fear is that they may struggle to cope without Grant at 9.
Bit of an understatement, Grant looks like the second coming of Cam Smith.

Think Turpin came through as a halfback... so really it's continuing the trend of us trying to turn halfbacks into hookers.
Berro
Macca (was a 7 in juniors)
BHunt
Turps (came to us as a hooker, but started out as a halfback)
Paix

I really like what I have seen of Paix. He looks to have a good footie brain and he's full of beans for the whole time he is on the park. His defence is really good. My instincts tell me he will be our no. 1 hooker before too long. Turpin is ok and has his moments. I just don't think he is anything special from what (little) I have seen of him so far at 9.

Turpins greatest moment so far was putting Munster on his arse.

Parra are good but agree they live offside. So many times they push up early and get away with it. Their third man over the top lingers and makes a second effort without being held to account a lot too.
The smart coaches will keep their powder dry and make a big deal of it when it counts.

Does anyone think that Grant will go back to 3rd string behind c and b smith? Is his form a combination of club and coach, and might going back to the Storm destroy him.

B. Smith is playing prop right now

And I wouldn't be surprised if they move Cam to halfback to ensure they keep Grant

The Storm aren’t one of the stupid clubs, if they had to choose, as good as B.Smith is, he’s gone in a heartbeat to keep Grant.

I think Grant is actually 2nd in the order... B Smith plays as a middle forward utility.

If you are looking to steal someone from the storm B Smith is the one you can target.

Does he really want to be a lock for the rest of his career... or a utility in the mould of Hinchliffe??

Storm won't let Grant go and they will pay him accordingly... he was loaned to tigers to get some footy into him before having to take over from CS9.

B Smith on the other hand may start to see his pathway into being a full time hooker completely blocked

"There was (no) movement at the station, for (even though) the word had passed around that the colt from old Regret had got away ... "

Brandon Smith iirc left the Cowboys because he wanted to learn from the GOAT and play hooker. Just cant see him being happy if he doesnt get that role.

The Storm aren't like Brisbane, they don't cater to kids crying about not playing where they want.

They wont want to lose him. Thay have a lot of devlopment into him. If they go with Grant, then i think Brandon will become available. They wont be able to hold two 80 min hookers of their calibre.

Brandon Smith isn't complaining about playing as a lock, but the question is does he want to be a Hinchliffe utility for the rest of his career... given CS9 is there and Grant looks next in line.

BSmith is off contract at the end of 2022, which is the same time as Harry Grant... If Fifita walks we should be targetting both those guys.

I do feel we may be under selling Turps who's basically only had 5-6 games as starting hooker at the broncos and has actually won the bulk of his game when starting as hooker.

It's unfortunate that he was shoehorned into the 7 last year and has been injured for 2 months this year... I think we really miss his energy in defence... but with two quality hookers available at the same time and at the same club you have to go after them

I still think Turpin got a lot of benefit from just not being Macca, and that he just gives everything every time he steps onto the field. I dont think he is poor, but he isnt anywhere near a Grant or Brandon Smith. To get back to being a top side, we need a top class hooker.

Why isnt DCE being done for that?

Deadset THE worst year for QLD Rugby League in history.

Feldt is so good under the high ball, gotta be close to Origin this year.

Edit: Wtf, Brent Tate just said exactly the same thing as me 10 seconds after I posted, great minds think alike.
