POST GAME [Round 12, 2023] Broncos vs Panthers

It’s like WWE. Watch it purely for the spectacle and entertainment value but the entire thing is fake.

Either through design or absolute ineptitude, the only thing that decides NRL games these days is not the players, it’s the ref.

Unscrutinised 6 agains for ???, rules / interpretations made up on the spot, other rules completely ignored, infractions selectively pulled up, absolute and total inconsistency and regular sin binning for absolutely nothing ensure every game is just a lucky dip and nothing more.

being the better team means nothing. There’s zero correlation between playing well and winning anymore. It’s totally and completely random.

The on-field referee marking a farce of the bunker system by interfering and overruling is one thing, but the rational for overturning the decision was ‘I don’t like the look of that’ or words to that affect. Who cares what it ‘looks like’.. apply the damn rules. This whole sport is so broken.

Luai won't be suspended.

Touching the ref used to be an automatic suspension but they stopped doing that. Players haven't even been fined for it in a long time.

Until a Broncos player does it in a finals game and suddenly it’s a send-off.

I can already hear that unbearable Fox Sports commentary team enthusiastically agreeing with the decision as ‘the right call’ and ignoring the fact that it hasn’t been applied in years.

We seriously need to start looking at our long term plans for playmakers because without Reyno in the side, we're hopeless in attack. Mam is definitely not a controlling half and Madden is next to useless. Penrith knew we wouldn't have many points in us tonight and played as such. They fully intended to just come to Suncorp and take the 2 points home. Still not sure why Reyno didn't play, he looked fine to me sitting on the sideline.

We're going to need a big statement performance next week to put us back on the map in the competition race. We can't go into Origin season with nothing but losses. It's a recipe for disaster.

Between the Gee and Klein, I’m reminded of Shayne Hayne. With every whistle, he’d go to the hat, pick out a decision on a piece of paper and read it out.

Anyone else question why we’ve played the panthers twice in 12rds when we are yet to play a game against teams like the knight, bulldogs, warriors, sharks?
Our first bye is 15rds into the comp.
Nothing to see here, move along.

So he was really the prototype of the modern ref.
Very much so @Sproj. Little bit of this, little bit of that… mix it up, tip it out and… penalty! Or knock on… actually you’re off to the bin! Wait… where am I?

Meh... pretty nothing game.

Panthers spent basically the entirety of the game inside our half and only scored 14 points.

We weren't able to build any sort of pressure at all and so Walsh tried to create something, which came off a couple times, but penrith's scramble defence was too good.

They didn't or couldn't really throw anything at us despite the mammoth amount of possession and field position ... based on that I think it's a good sign for our defence.

Thought Madden's kicking game was pretty fucking mediocre at best... zero hang time and zero length on his kicks... was pop gun style and didn't really allow us to pin them back and build any sort of pressure.

I feel like if the ref wanted to he could've quite easily turned over Penrith's first try for either a double movement OR the fact that Luai caught the ball on the inside shoulder and then runs around his man... has that rule been seen again since round 2 against Walsh???

We don’t play the rooters till like round 20.
And some teams have played multiple other teams twice

Unfortunately, I don't see how the bunker could have taken Turuva's try off him.

Put together a comparison of the position of the ball before he promotes it and when his body stops moving forward across the try line. 99% sure the ball would have ended up over the line regardless given the original position of the ball was ahead of the right shoulder and his whole right shoulder ends up over the line.

I don't think there was enough there for the bunker to overturn it.

for some reason he is using Jensen like he is Palasia, IMO Jensen needs to be ahead of Marty like he was before, Marty hasn't delivered when he was moved ahead of Jensen by Kevvie.

I still think we are best with Jensen starting and Flegs off the bench.
He still has no plan for the 17 jersey.

He's been picking 3 middles on the bench and then playing one of them for 15-20mins because Haas and Patty play near 60mins a game.

Ball and right shoulder is positioned behind his head on first grounding and then both are in front of his head due to promoting the ball over the try line... he's then instantly tackled by a player so momentum doesn't get him there before he's held up anyway

17 should be an edge for Capewell rotation imo, but we are weak as **** for options there, if we kept Hosking and used him for that we would be soo sorted right now.

The Robati situation has hurt us as well, who we haven't replaced.

The main thing I took out of that game is how many idiots don’t know that if you are facing your own tryline and pull a ball in along the ground toward yourself it’s a knock on.
