Round 12 - Broncos vs. Manly - Post-Match Discussion

Not a lot to say that hasn't already been said.

Awesome TEAM game yesterday. Very little one-out running, our forwards played with a shitload of energy and intensity, and it paid off IMO. No hesitation to spread the ball, I did feel we went wide too early at times but that's OK - it's an improvement and I'll forgive the mistakes if we're taking calculated risks instead of just playing it safe. Loved that we didn't fade in that second half, we kept the foot to their throat and that ruthlessness is something that's definitely been missing since Locky left.

Absolutely stoked. We need to play like that every week - the best part is that we could do even better (goal kicking, dropped balls, silly penalties etc). We play like that, we will push ANY team in this comp, period - hopefully the boys can keep it up!

Was Griffin sick all week and let the players run training or something?

look i dont want to be that guy im as happy as anyone with the performance. easily best this season but we still are a long way off a top 4 team. manly were woeful they really really were. i have never seen them play so poorly. so many of there players lacked energy and any go forward. im confident most teams could of beaten them the other night.

now again i dont wanna be that guy and its great that this forum for once isnt all doom and gloom. i just think some ppl are getting way to ahead of themselves. we still have a heap of improvement to go to be any were near competing with the top 4 teams when there playing well

Thanks captain bringdown.

FWIW I agree we have plenty of work before we are a top 4 side, but the team can only play what's in front of them and they did it well.

At this point of the season all teams are missing players so you just have to get on with it.

It seems whenever we have a good win against a good side people will say 'oh they played terribly' not taking into account that maybe they played terribly because we didn't let them play well. We out enthused them from the start and never took the foot off their throat, leading them to make silly mistake through frustration

Each to their own

haha sorry i offended you i agree with u completly btw. But few posts here and there seems ppl are getting a little ahead of themseves imo.i havnt seen to many people comment on how badly manly play because lets me honest they were horrid. its a was a good win but it doesnt mean that our next 3 wins is going to be easy beats like some are implying.

some weeks our attack clicks other weeks we look absolutely clueless. that the one aspect i really would like to see the boys improve on becuase all year tbh whenever we got within the oppositions 20 metres i have never been confident of us scoring points or getting a repeat set like the top 6 teams in the competition are. and even on sundays game we had 4 or 5 sets of six where the top teams would of scored or got a repeat set and we came up with nothing.

but ur right we can only play whats in front of you and we played very well. its esp impressive because of the salary cap issues thats all over the media that can easily bring a team down. so full credit to the boys.

There is one thing I really enjoyed seeing yesterday.

Whenever the Broncos got a chance to take a penalty goal, they didn't. They kept attacking Manly, they kept trying to put them to the sword. They had the game won, they were buggered, but they didn't take the easy option.

I really enjoyed seeing that.

This was probably because they know how rubbish our goalkickers are.

Goalkicking aside it was a great game I don't really know what more Broncos supporters want. I'll take thrashing Manly any day of the week.

FTR you hadn't offended me, I just think sometimes we are too quick to say "oh the other team played shit" but not look at the reasons why they did

People seem to forget that the opposition only plays as well as you let them.

For mine, we absolutely prevented Manly from playing their typical game by both relatively first class attack, and equally effective defence, especially on their main strike weapons of Foran, Lyon, Matai and Taufua, as well as controlling the middle with quality and enthusiastic defence.

It should also be remembered that we have a less than ideal 5/8 and were missing Hodges, although Copley made his absence somewhat irrelevant for mine.

Our game plan was expansive and well executed. The ball did the work. The defence was aggresive and effective by and large. I reckon we would have won even if DCE Whathefuck and Stewart played.

We ambushed them good and proper. The scoreboard tells no lies against the equal best team in the comp.

The question now is whether we can do this consistently 9/10 times, keep improving as all good teams do, and if we do, for mine we are top 4 material no doubt about it.

Sundays game was one of the most complete performances I have seen from us in two years. They didn't clock off at any stage in that game and hung tough in defence and spread the ball in attack. And the most exciting thing to come from that game was that Barba looked nice and fit and didn't look like he was struggling. He was getting his hands on the ball when he wanted and started to put some footwork on display. If we can keep this momentum up coming into the raiders game, then we will be sitting nicely after the 1st bye.

Agreed, IMO this is the first game in ages where I felt the Broncos were in full control of the match from start to finish, Manly were missing players yes, but I don't subscribe to the view we only played so well because they played poorly. The Broncos controlled the match by and large and dominated, they could have easily scored more with better ball handling and a real 5/8th. Ben Hunt even said after the match at halftime they talked about previous games this season where they were guilty of getting of to a great start and then just letting it slip way way too easily, they didn't want to repeat that. That doesn't mean we can get a massive ego and think it's all turned around and just expect to beat Canberra, but I feel there is a lot we can take away from this game and build on.

Well that has to be the 1st time we have not really given our opposition a sniff in ages.We can only hope this is a portent of things to come.I hope it's not a case of one swallow doesn't make a summer(or a porn star)

I missed the first half due to moving house taking an extra hour or so (stupid rent a truck place made me wait an extra 3 hours for the truck) so I am watching the first half on youtube now and so far I am only 10 minutes in and already Barba has been more involved than any other game this year but the biggest thing is everyone is passing the ball around.

I hope to see more of that in Canberra but I am guessing the ball might be a bit slippery down there! I would rather see them try it instead of just going back to Griffinball.
