The trouble is I don't think where we are on the table is a reflection of where we are as a team, or that we've been unlucky. On the contrary, luck went our way enough times to get us here. Along with some freakish flashes of brilliance, mostly from Reece and Ezra.

We have as many highly talented players as any other club, but it's only taken an injury to an outside back to throw us off our game. Our squad is not balanced and it's hurting us. Notably, we failed to replace Kurt Capewell.

That said, if we can return to 2023 defence and quit coughing up the ball so much (Reece), we're still in this.

Hard to argue most of those points, to be honest but one thing I will say is that in terms of luck, we have also bombed two results in the Titans and Storm, if one pass in both games was not thrown in to round 85 or a sitter dropped, we'd be in equal first, despite all the injuries.

All signs that despite being mediocre for most of the season, we are a seriously good team. If we can win most and lose some due to a drop here or there playing in first gear, imagine what we can do when we decide to hit the accelerator.

If that's all you saw you didn't understand his worth.
Nah !
Piakura can miss tackles just as well as Capewell . But gives away less penalties than Kurt . LOL .
Can't just 'replace' Kurt Capewell. We opted with Piakura which has its merits, the club needs to be patient with him now as he continues to learn his craft. Like Ezra Mam and Reece Walsh, his qualities far outweigh his shortcomings at this stage, like all of the young superstars.

Capewell is at a point in his career where he is going to reach journeyman status eventually and we would need some sort of succession plan for him if we decided to keep him. Piakura is a starter and would be playing elsewhere leaving us with god knows who in two or three years time if we didnt lock him up.

Kev: Ok boys before we go out onto the field for training, I thought I would go over an area of the game that needs addressing. Try assists, now the good news fellas is the numbers are up and increasing as the season go by. The bad news is they are by and large given to the opposition.

I'm sure the club did the right thing by letting him go, in terms of his form, but we haven't replaced his "features" so to speak. I saw him more as a centre playing in the backrow rather than the other way around. He had excellent ball skills. I can't really comment on whether Piakura will eventually be an upgrade. Maybe.

Probably lucky to get away with Manly too. They were on top for 65 minutes and the better side and botttled a few chances.

Lucky in the sense they won by a point, but considering how many calls went the Sea Eagles way I wouldn't call it luck. Brisbane defended stoutly and were unlucky to concede that first try after Olakau'atu threw a blatant forward pass.

We can't beat Penrith, Melbourne or the chooks, we can't even beat the Tiatns FFS.
Relying way too much on individual brilliance.
Watching Penrith against the Sharks last week was like watching a machine.
Unfortunately for us we have only got a few moving parts of a machine.
Season has gone.........Unfortunately.

We certainly CAN beat the Titans. It took our most shithouse performance in years to lose, and that was only by 2.

The other three teams are a bigger ask. As it stands, we don't look like beating the Storm, Panthers or Roosters. We're about the fourth best team in the comp.

The season is far from gone. We've only lost one more game than this time last year.

I think full strength we've got the Storm, they only just got over the line by 2 with arsey shit. I'm hoping when it counts we can beat rorters and riff at full strength.

If Reynolds plays the full 80 we beat the storm that night, even with Reynolds only playing 40 we bombed a try that would of won it for us.
Forgot that was the Reyno injury game! Even 80 from Madden probably would have done it. Storm have been winning a lot of close games this season. I'd still like to think we're better lol

It's more the way we are losing that has me thinking the season is done. As said, we have the cattle, I'm wondering what's going on with the coaching side of the equation. And for God's sake, this isn't a sack Kevie thing.

Injuries and a tough draw have played a huge part, but the lack of cohesion, and discipline with the ball is killing our season.

His highness, Lord Bennett always said defence is about attitude. The team looks tired and down on confidence. The coaching staff would be concerned and trying to address it, but I'm not sure what they can do.

Our edge defence and spine aren't firing. Billy is having a terrible season. Ezra is hot and cold. Not sure what to say about Walsh, maybe he's trying too hard?

It's a relatively young team. Reynolds influence can't be understated in 2023.

And despite this, we sit either equal wins in top four or one behind depending on the Roosters result and the third best attack in the comp despite the toughest draw out of anyone and injuries / busted players galore. There’s your reasons for us struggling, it’s hard to get cohesion when you’ve got different blokes playing next to you very week.

We’ve been average all season and are right now, in equal fourth place. Far from our season being over, we are ready to give this thing a massive shake.
