I think the one frustrating thing is Oates will take a hit up every set regardless of if Boyd passes it to him or not, but we all know that Boyd has a strong kick return in him... so it's frustrating to see him just dump it off.

It was the right call, unfortunately.
This is the front on shot where he lost control.
And this is the same frame, but a different angle. You couldn't say it doesn't touch Walker at all there.

Boyd does have a good kick return in him, but Oates by far has the better kick return. I really don't see why fans have an issue with Boyd utilizing that to get our sets off to a good start and get a bit of momentum going from the first tackle.

My point was that Boyd can easily take a quality hit up on kick returns instead of waiting for Oates... especially given that Oates will always take a hit up in the set.
Also when Oates is given the ball on the kick return he usually backs up and takes another one in the set because he knows that's his job. It's just more work load that his captain doesn't want to take.
It's also most disappointing to me when he waits around for Oates to get back before dumping off to him on a kick return when he could quite easily do it on his own

Story,I cannot see that ball touching the ground.
It's not enough for the VR to say "I'm pretty sure I know what's happened here" it must be conclusive, which in this case it wasn't.

No, it touches Walker which makes it a knock on. Walker's arm was under the ball, that's why it never touched the ground in the first place.

Re Boyd's returns. It's an issue more so when he passes backwards 5m for Oates or Kahu to be swarmed by chasers and only maybe reach where Boyd was. It happens maybe once a game, but it's annoying to see.
Most of the time it works, but he just needs to make sure it's on and maybe not telegraph it too much.
Also his reluctance to run at the line makes him look like a cat thats scared of getting tackled. I'm not suggesting he KHunts it back, but at least try and gain some ground before surrendering

Slater would've gobbled those 2 balls up imo. Both landed in the Fullback's domain, and Boyd was jogging to the area on both occasions.
That said, that was my main issue with Boyd in this game, and hopefully he will correct that, as other teams will pay attention. Probably a consequence of Boyd defending mostly in the line when the opposition is in our 20.

Boyd could have shown more desperation, but it wouldn't have mattered if he had Billy Slater acceleration, there was no way he was ever going to get to the football.
It was up to the halves and centres to make a play there and both were caught out. Moga in particular had a chance to put a shot on and just sat back and watched. Clearly he wasn't paying attention the other side of the field, Kahu demonstrated what you have to do to defend a kick.

I'm sure if you told him to pin his ears down he may have been able to cover that distance in that amount of time, but there's no way he could cover that ground, keep his eyes on the football and time his jump in. Especially on the Crichton one, no way.
The team definitely has to improve in that regard, but in fairness to the Broncos, Reynolds has been getting results off those kicks for as long as I can remember. They're a great play and it boggles my mind why teams don't execute that sort of kick more.

As for the Moga No Try, it's better to watch it in motion with the bobble. The freeze frame doesn't show the mistake as clearly.
I'm not going to lie, I'm still not 100% on board with the decision, but the officials cop enough that I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt.

A lot of this just feels like having a go at Boyd because it's Boyd, which is really quite sad.
