Round 16 - Broncos vs Rabbitohs - Post Match Discussion

Well I hope it's remembered when people continue to whinge about how Souths were robbed.

If it's the other way round, gee that's a dumb rule.

Anyone else think for the games when all the origin stars return the team plays like crap? look at the Knights game, conceding 24 points letting them back in the game.

It's the other way round.

You can be offside in goal.

Flicking through rules online at the moment I can't see anything to suggest that knocking on in goal is allowed. I can find a union rule that says it isn't allowed.

I did find:
14.1) A player is off-side except when he is in his own in-goal if the ball is kicked, touched or held by one of his own team behind him.

That said the ball was knocked on in goal into a player in the field of play, so maybe it should have been a penalty.

edit:
8.4) The game is restarted with drop-out by a defending player from the centre of his goal-line if:
b) A defending player accidentally infringes in the in-goal area.

I would assume that means knock on?

The accuracy of this site is probably questionable.

No it's not.

You can knock on in goal I suppose. But if you do recover it's just going to be a drop out if ruled on correctly.

And you cannot be offside in your own in goal. You can be offside in your opposition's in goal.

Could you use an excuse and say it was a square up from the earlier encounter in perth?

Maybe the players are hesitant to put their bodies on the line with Origin just around the corner?

I reckon Thaiday was really hesitant at times.

Broncos were awful, but got 2 points. All you can ask for at this time of year

Really? 28-12 is awful?

I thought we were pretty good, we gave Souths no possession or field position. If we play like that every week we won't lose many games IMO. We lost last week due to having no field position, this week was the opposite.

Take out Teo's stupid rushing off the line and a bad pass which led to an intercept and we gave Souths, a very good team, absolutely nothing.

Then what was up with Farrell knocking on in the second half?

Never saw a replay and the commentators didn't bat an eye lid.

Did Farrell do it? I thought Thaiday knocked it back but as they never showed a replay so don't know. Have to wait till the Fox Sports replay.

I would suggest watching it again, the Broncos player tried to offload.

Thats what I thought at first before the replay, but looking at it from the replay you can see the Rabbitohs player raking out the ball so I would say its a fair call.

50/50 at worst IMO.

Reynolds hand is all over the ball and he appears to do some work to jolt it free.

Footage is on FoxSports' website.

Agreed on that knock on BP, I thought it was pretty straight forward in real time.

Our halves had an off night but I actually thought tonight was one of our better performances of the season. Souths are a good footie team and we dominated them across 80 minutes.

Execution was our only concern, however we created a dozen chances and most importantly our defence was once more outstanding.

Pretty disappointed with how we played tonight. Defence was good but our attack is just so lost. Wallace, Norman and Macca get tackled with the ball too often and Hoffman really does kill a lot of our attacking raids. Hoffman is such a good player but really think we would be better in attack with Beale playing fullback. Our forward pack did the job, we dominated but just couldn't put them away. McCullough is as dumb as they get. Copley has really developed into a very strong player over the last month. Really happy for him. Parker is brilliant and his worth should never ever be questioned.

Just one thing, is Hook really playing Gillett differently to how he did last year or is Gillett just in a bad patch?

Given the amount of long range tries we concede whilst in attack, Hoffman should just sit up at half way when we are attacking.

Solves two problems at once.
