POST GAME Round 2 - Broncos vs Cowboys

Just how good are these games between the us and NQL these days. Sensational game.

We should've won that no doubt at all in the first half of golden point, just like the grand final of 2015 we blew it completely although we should've won that grand final before extra time. Would've been good if Benji played tonight he would've given us a lot of composure in the big moments and probably would've sunk a field goal in extra time unlike Milford.

- Hunt played well in the first half but I felt he went missing in the second but there is positive signs there for him. This should lift his confidence

- We should've had Sims on for a lot longer than 44 minutes. He was making life hell for the Cowboys and continuing his Sharks form. Hope he gets more minutes in the future

- Moga was very average tonight and I didn't like his attitude. When he dropped the ball in the second half, he just stood there looking at the ground whilst the Cowboys were threatening to break away. Play to the whistle son.

- Roberts had another strong game with his try and meter forward pass that wasn't picked up

- Ironically we were praising the goal kicking and thought we had it all fixed after Kahu last week. Karma's a bitch

- Another strong performance from the bench, we are in good hands there

- Find it crazy people carrying on about referees when the worst call went our way and we were on the right end of a 7-3 penalty count
Yeah, I think you almost have to bring Benji in just in case we need a friggin field goal or something. It's not like he's a specialist, but gotta be better than Hunt or Milford.

If Kahu is left out of the side next week against the Storm due to his injury he picked up tonight. Who do you think will best fill his spot?

Depending on how Benji went/goes with Redcliffe, does he make his debut for the Broncs and slot into Centre pushing Moga to Wing?

Or

Does Mead Slot straight back in to cover Kahu?

Or

Do we look at Pearson, Seve, Pangai?

Also anyone know how much longer Opacic is out for?
Mead is the best right winger in the club, Kahu will keep him out on his kicking alone

Whilst i thought he could have worked harder with relieving runs out of our own half, i thought moga's positioning to free oates to get one-on-one with his opposite was quite good. Oates was also guilty sulking after a mistake, and if anything, his work as a winger was fairly ordinary but was redeemed with his runs out of his own half. Both need to fix their heads and not dwell on imperfection.

Adam Blair sidestep caused Matt Scott's torn ACL. Too nimble for the old fella.

Yeah Moga putting Oates away is a simple thing to do but it's surprising just how many times centres in similar situations dont do it.

That is going to totally **** the Cowboys up if Scott is gone long term. At least they've got Taumololo and Hess now has to stand up beyond his years.

They'd be pretty foolish to re-sign him now honestly, as harsh as that may sound, they were already struggling to break the bank and keep him, this should make their decision to let him walk a whole lot easier, let him hinder the Knights cap space for a few years on a retirement contract. I can't see him being elite at age 33 after a torn ACL, which is what he'll be half way through next season.

Hunt said in the pre-season that he has been practicing his kicking and tonight it was the best I've ever seen from him.

That was the first 40/20 of his career.

His technique and the way he approached it was better. He thought about what kind of kick he was going to do and where he was going to kick it instead of just getting the ball to the boot as quickly as possible.

Hopefully, he has truly improved and he can kick like that consistently this season.

Best kicking display i've seen from Mcguire aswell.

Kicking might become instinct for him like it did for Luke Bailey :notevensayingit:

Top shelf game for Rd 2 of season. JT probably the best half ever in the history of the game. Thought the boys all did very well.

Losing Gillett was a key moment - in tight games like that keep ing JT on a leash is the key to bringing it home.

I am not a fan of McGuire continuing to kill the play on 4th and 5th tackle in opposition red zone.

The tries to the cowgirls just before and after half time were another key. Used to be a time when the broncs would lead the league, by a huge margin, for tries 5 minutes before and after the half. Now other teams are leaving us for dead here. Need some more spark of the bench - and I think Alex Glenn needs to make way here.

My opinions of the game:

1. That's the best I've seen of our forwards play and dominate for years and they need to play off the back of that.

2. The golden point is bullshit and never liked it and it needs to go.

3. Hunt and Milford both had great games for mine and they need to carry on from that. Hunt's kicking tonight was on song. Milford was playing straight and running more and if wasn't for last minute leg tackles we would of got more tries.

4. I understand why Kahu couldn't, but we slowed down a lot off our kick returns then dummy half runs we need to beat the first defender more.

5.Where was Boyd tonight he wasn't involved in our attacking plays at all. Boyd is normally right in there lurking and waiting for the sweep play(which is second to none). If Boyd was in position more Milford and Hunt would of had more opportunities.

6. I'm still against having Glenn in the team he adds next to nothing. His good line running isn't needed in the middle of the field. We slowed down when he came on.

7. We needed a impact player the forwards were running on empty and if Niko was there or Benji they would of had plenty of opportunities

Great game still none the less and we can build on this game!

The issue is that we haven't got a half who can grab the game by the scruff of the neck, when it's needed, and direct runners where to be and where to get to, to ensure they get a good crack at drop goal.

For example, all our shots at field goal were from the hooker passing left, to a right footed kicker.

A right foot kicker, trying to drop a field goal from the left side of the posts, requires them to bring the ball in first and then release it down to the foot. Thurston kicked both shots from the right side, which allows you to catch and drop straight to the right foot. Quick release to the foot.

By kicking on the right side, you are also pushing momentum with your body, away from the incoming defenders. Kicking from the left side of the posts, means you have to stop and then push forward with your kick directly into the incoming defenders which makes it infinitely harder.

Little things done perfectly = clutch plays. Thurston has it. Milford/Hunt, not yet.
Surely it makes **** all difference.

im 50/50 if they will keep him on board
the rumblings around are that maclean will end up in townsville. also we had a crack for welch recently but failed. little bit off topic but it shows you that wb is still hunting for front row options.

Boyd - 208 metres
Ese'ese - 200 metres, 26 tackles, 2 offloads
Oates - 194 metres
McGuire - 146 metres, 44 tackles, 1 offload
Blair - 107 metres, 27 tackles
Roberts - 105 metres, 3 offloads, 1 try
McCullough - 99 metres, 55 tackles

i didnt see the stats last night, but reading your post now for ese'ese metres!!! thats enormous off the bench.

What idiot thought fireworks were a good idea just before kickoff? Feldts kick offs are hard enough to catch, let alone with thick smoke you can barely see through. I'm still really not happy about this game. I'm tired of every game needing to be evened up by the refs. We were legitimately fucked over last night.

That was a pretty good game, apart from the result. Thought the young forwards really aimed up and played very well and also Hunt had a pretty decent game. Kicking was a lot better though his bombs still land in no mans land.

As for golden point, you just can't beat composure, something that we don't really have. I just don't think Milf has a footballing brain. As in can't control and tell players where and what to do. Electric player, quick feet but just doesn't think and think ahead.

All in all, typical game from the two teams, enjoyable to watch (at times ) but still of course a bit to work on for next week. Will be a tough assignment in Melbourne.

We'll struggle to win 10 games this year ... we're fucken average compared to 97% of the other teams in the comp who can, y'know, build pressure and kick field goals and shit
Mate you're out of your mind! We've beaten one team so far and took the other one to extra time! And what teams were they??? THE LAST TWO FUCKIN PREMIERS! get a brain
