POST GAME [Round 21, 2022] Broncos vs Roosters

But can you say he reliably picks the right options?
I can't remember if that was the game where Niu did that elite cutout to the wing that I was gushing over at the time, but Niu struggles to keep at it when it's the obvious choice.

but this is just attack you can't dispute he is completely inferior in defence, and when easy tries are scored against you, you start to enter head dropping territory which effects attack, this is a mental game.

He just seems too introverted to sort the defensive line out, he looks like a shy kid playing with his heros and afraid to make the calls he needs to, not only that he isn't a player who puts his body on the line.

Fullback is the second most important position on the field, Above the 6 and 9 and just behind the 7, it's crucial.
Agreed, I'd just say that Tesi is a developing player and the only way these players are going to get better is by having opportunities in first grade. Like a lot of developing players he's shown glimpses of what he can do and it's been impressive but consistensy and leadership has been an issue. I think he can and has built on this experience and while I'm not sure what the future holds for him at the Broncos, at the very least he can give the club some depth as Walsh finds his feet.

Tonight was a tough assignment and he came up short. I think he can take that experience and grow from it, meanwhile Te Maire should be fit and firing for the run home with Paix, Farnworth/Lee, Carrigan etc. in the mix as well.

It's probably sticks for him this season but he will get a chance to redeem himself in the world cup as he is by far the best option at fullback for Tonga, given their draw he will get 4 games at minimum, I will be watching.

Anyone notice that the Broncos are getting into that shit team habit of running backwards, and across the field, only to lose meters?

And why are front rowers passing to front rowers so often. Are they scared of running at the fucking line?

Faster, better skill-set, better foot-work etc.

Good luck to TMM for trying to catch that do or die flick from Capewell on his own in-goal.

TMM just has him positionally but again Niu was improving in the middle, so give him this assignment in a game that was always going to be tough. Niu couldn't handle it so bring in TMM for a more manageable game where the rest of the team is more likely to turn up.
Elite talent or fools gold, I'm not sure atm.
He shows elite talent in patches in attack but Tesi plays for Tesi.
He looks for himself first too often , the pass is mostly a second option and he runs out of space or gives a dump pass.
His defence is horrible, clearly not counting numbers and or communicating properly, out of position too often and gives up on the chase so easily.
Adam Reynolds made a point of saying how good it was to have a fullback who could organise the defense when asked about TMM. If he is selected next week we will immediately look better in defense IMO.
He will also unleash our centres with better positional play and early ball.

Energy was shit from the opening whistle. Reyno some bad decisions, Billy also. Just garbage for the most part.

I don't know what has happened to this team but that was almost 2020ish. Kev best figure it out, and soon, we are in real danger of not even making the 8.

It has to be a direction from Kev telling out front rowers to pass because they're all doing it now. Just run the fucking ball.

It’s worked well most the year but timing was off for everyone. Looked like a trial. Payne passes to early, where Patty digs into the line. Everyone was running the wrong lines, Reynolds running deep was figured out - they just let him run and put outside players between him and his pass options.

We find it hard to play direct and get a roll on without Paix

I feel like we basically played without a lock last night...

Can barely recall Kobe being on the field and I'd imagine with him off Palasia would be filling in and he just doesnt have the ball skills to be in that position.

It was initially to provide a second option and prevent the defensive line from gang tackling (and slowing the ruck) as they had to cover the second forward. However now it is used as the first option and way too telegraphed, and the defence are not committing to the first forward as he just shovels it on.

Staggs defence has gone to pus. Early in the season it had really improved and communication on the right was good. But now he has returned to rushing in when it is not needed and not trusting his team mates inside. This has been since his drop from nsw. So unlike JAC who has improved to give fitler the finger, staggs looks to have given up.

I don't mind a bit of passing between the forwards. Defences are too good these days to just bash it one up. You need a bit of something. It's been working well for most of the year.

i get blooding youngsters for top teams like the panthers but we're a team re-building from a wooden spoon and a clean out. we need to have our best performing players on the field as much as possible to build a winning culture. it hasn't taken much for us to fall back into bad habits, there is no need to be tinkering with the side every second week if we don't have to
Yeah but it’s all hindsight and Monday morning QBing.

People say this in hindsight because we lost against the Tigers. Had we won but didn’t debut Mariner down the track people are saying Kevvie’s an idiot for not giving him a taste in easy games, especially if we start to hear rumours of this potential star centre wanting out to get an opportunity.

By the same token if Lee played but had a bad game people are saying Kevvie’s an idiot he should have played Mariner, Lee is slow blah blah blah.

Unfortunately, me either.

It’s plain as day they are needed, but perhaps not plain enough for Kevin…
Just had three tries scored in 15mins and two 30+ points against in back to back games and Kevin mentioned in his presser he wasn’t worried about our defence. I can only hope our defence coach is not of the same opinion.

Except Lee is out the door next year so Mariner more than likely gets an opportunity at some point next year.

He's 18 and played a few qcup games... it's not like he's been stuck down in reggies for years and cant get an opportunity

For mine, We lost this game because the Roosters are a settled side (as Kevvie observed) and, importantly they have class in about every position. I see them as a genuine premiership threat, and coming good at the right time. Having the very best FB in the universe is a bit of a help. For mine, Teddy is a class above every other FB going around. I love watching him play. They are my pick for the premiership.

So, it is no big deal for me that we lost, however, aspects of our game plan are seriously troubling. In short, it was shit. And after the Eels performance, I can't get my head around why we have reverted to the Seibold days on that weak as piss effort. For mine, if TMM played, it would have made little difference. The Roosters were all over us.

I also can't get my head around why Kevvie doesn't or can't coach the side to have a dozen set plays using Staggs. You can blame Staggs, sure, but it is on the coach if his players and side don't fire. I can only imagine the carnage Staggs would inflict if he played for the Roosters.

We are still a rabble. Until we gel consistently as a team on both side of the ruck, and maintain serious intensity, I can't see us making the eight. On last night's form, I see us winning 1 more game this season. So disappointing
