PRE-GAME Round 22 - Dragons vs Broncos

Forwards weren't the problem (or the biggest one) last night. They did alright. We were at their line enough times to get several tries...but no creativity or execution from the halves or backs.

*Oh and shit defence all around.
Have a look at their hit up metres and tell me the forwards weren't the problem. Yes, I know stats don't tell the whole story but they didn't "do alright".

1. Milford
2. Oates
3. Opacic
4. Roberts (shite defence last week but no other options)
5. Kahu (prefer in centre over Roberts but can't stay fit when he does)
6. Boyd
7. Hunt
8. Thaiday
9. McCullough
10. Ese'ese (15 mins stint at start then swap for Blair, can use for 20 at end)
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. McGuire

Interchange:

14. Waddell (on at 30 mins, can use Macca as tackling bag lock centre forward as required)
15. TPJ
16. Parker (as a prop)
17. Blair

Might be controversial but need some fire at the start. Happy to bench Milford as an X factor hooker/roamed if Nicholls is up to doing the halfback job, Hunt to 5/8 and Boyd to the position Daddy promised. But at end of day Milford is probably getting fat to add some kilograms to become a safer speed bump/pinball cushion. I'd be depressed, pissed off, and thinking about my next cheeseburger too if I had his skill playing out of position with this style of football.

You know shits bad when you can't wait for your winger to have a run so you can make some meters

My reasoning behind Roberts moving to the wing is that he hasn't been that strong defensively and he doesn't have wingers quick enough to take advantage of the space he can make so he might be more effective on the wing. Only problem is I'm not sure how proficient he is at catching high balls.

It doesn't solve the defensive problem, but maybe he and Kahu can switch, with Roberts on the wing in attack. Kahu has good hands so could hopefully get him into space. It also allows Kahu to not hurt himself again defending in the centres.

I think Kahu is better defensively than Roberts in the centres, but I guess we can't be sure until they actually play in that configuration.

Dragons are playing with a lot more ticker than we have for a while... Boys better turn up to play next week. (Bulldogs are imploding which is helping)

Yes nice of the Dogs to play them back into a bit form for us.

Indeed and I think a lot of fans could handle losing if they at the very least turned up like that. But quite frankly I think the Dragons will take a lot out of this game despite losing. What better opportunity to kick the Broncos in the guts?

Despite playing with a lot more ticker, they are still just as clueless as us in attack.

But if we dish up the same crap as we did against the Roosters, we lose.

George Fai made 13 runs for 189 metres last week for Souths Logan... Absolute beast! I think he, Pangai Jr and Ese'ese should all be in the team next year and are all already ahead of Ofahengaue.

Will Broncos v Dragons be like watching the keystone cops?

Not doubt, but Kahu can't seem to play for more than 10 minutes at centre without getting hurt. Maybe this way he'll last 20

If there is one department you can be critical of Boyd, it's positioning for the short kicking games. Teams caught wind of it last year when they were trying to figure ways to break through the goal-line defence and a few of them have obviously worked on it during the off-season (eg. Cronulla & Penrith).

Suffice to say, he better be prepared to roam around at the back.

I'm really not that concerned about the Dragons. Credit where it's due, they played well this week and deserved the win a lot more than the Broncos did. However, the only way the Broncos lose next week is if they beat themselves. If they turn up, put in an honest performance they'll be too strong.

I suggest we play a drinking game where you drink when someone muffs with a bad option but I think this would be a danger to public health...

I like the the idea of switching Roberts and Kahu but it's only first week back and he is injury prone. Gillett and Glenn can stiffen the edges. Get hodges in to sort out Roberts.

Happy to give a young beast a go in Fai. Offa needs a month in reserve grade. Arrow is no where near ready based on last night. Sua us will be phenomenal, a better Glenn hopefully if he stays hungry but is a while away too.

Where are the young outside backs however? Is Seve ready?

Kahu must stay away from left centre.

Not just because I think he is a bad defender, but because he can't stop getting injured when playing there.

Whoever plays wing should be strapped to the hilt and covered in bubble wrap.

The Dragons can barely score points to save themselves but they make up for it in a way with the effort they put in. Something we are lacking.
