Round 23 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

this is the week for me. i half expected the crap we put up today just because it was canberra and we've always had a habit of this kind of shit against teams that dont matter.

this is the week it boils down to. if we cant turn our attitude around for this week then there is no chance it will before the end of the season.

Attitude is worth doodly squat without the ability to score points against sides who are light years ahead of where they were when we beat them.

Broncos now 40-61 since 2001 in all games post round 20 ...

save for 2006, this is just a stunning record of a club that simply cannot recover once the wheels fall off ...

if our attitude is right and our forwards dominate the middle we can close down or at least limit the doggies (or anyone).

whether that will happen is entirely another matter but we've got the squad on paper that is capable of it.

It says something when Wallace was playing his best football in 08-09 and he wasn't running the ball as much. He really seems to need a superstar next to him to handle the creative side of things. What the answer is, who knows? Lockyer out of retirement looks the only option even at 10000000-1.

Wallace is playing shit and I am about sick of him but he really isn't the biggest problem in our side at the moment. Hopefully Normans groin keeps out of the Bulldogs match so we can see how Hunt and Wallace go for a whole match. Hunt looked quite creative in his stint and will only improve given more opportunities IMO.

Norman's passing game alone is superior to Wallace. Pete's become good for at least 2-3 passes a game that don't find their mark.

Ben Hunt will look even better in the half / first receiver role. He doesn't need Peter Wallace getting all the first touches. I think the more Hunt can control the play, the better we will be. Having Wallace there trying to do everything himself isn't good for Hunt's confidence or potential. A confident half would be a plus for a Corey Norman type 5/8 to feed off.

Harby

Hope your team are gentle with us.

We are very delicate ATM.

tbh man, I never write off the Broncos, because as soon as you do they'll bite you. There's no doubt that your team has enormous potential. Big test for us if your forward pack muscles up (no offence), it could turn out to be a real Dog fight (Is that a pun? if so, intended :D).

off.

Are you off chops?? Normans passing is woeful.

norman does have the ability to pass very well. got good slick hands. he's just been making terrible decisions not helped by lack of structure/support.

Maybe he meant by not passing the ball, he does more good than Wallace does by passing it?

I really wish someone could tell me how Michael Parker-Walshe is going. He's just about the only potential solution I can see out there.

So does Wallace though.

He's playing for Tweed at the moment. So not in our system at this stage. Came down from Nth Qld at the start of the year because of home sickness, and from what I hear unlikely to leave the GC area even though Brisbane is only an hour down the road.

As for how he's going I haven't really seen enough Tweed games to judge. They did play against Easts today though so Ethos may be able to give us a report?

As for team I'd name, despite zero chance:

1. Hodges
2. McGuire
3. McGuire
4. McGuire
5. McGuire
6. McGuire
7. Hunt
8. McGuire
9. McGuire
10. McGuire
11. Glenn (despite injury, he'd still go better than Thaiday)
12. McGuire
13. McGuire
-----------------
14. McCullough
15. Whitchurch
16. Reed
17. Hannant

In other words - MCGUIRE NEED MORE ****ING GAME TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off the pipes bro, Wallace's passing game is obv superior to Normans.

Hunt needs to Touch the ball more, Lockyer was playing more like a halfback his last couple of years anyway so it makes sense Wal would play better with a real halfback like Hunt, or we could play Norman still, yuck. Might as well play Petero there.

Well.......Wallace had Hunt today. How'd he go??

Wallace was also playing more first receiver than I wanted, the team still played better than they have been with Wal and Norman running around lately.
