Just quietly I reckon Herbie and Flegler would be regretting signing with the Sushi bar right about now.
At the moment I'm not phased about losing Flegler at all... he is just not performing at the same standard as our other middles.

He doesn't need to be Haas and Patty, but Kobe and Palasia are easily outperforming him as well

I'm not advocating for this because on his day Flegs is a gun but you wouldn't lose much if you started Palasia and bought Willison on to the bench. I am really, really sad now that we are losing Palasia, he has come on in leaps and bounds this season.

I agree. He is a good player but we can do without him. I think the same about Herbie too. Those players you can't pay overs for and so glad we didn't. An experienced solid forward to replace him will suffice.

And as good as Herbie is, and he is very good, Mariner looks like he has the ability to go past him (not that he necessarily will but he has all the tools any player could ask for).

I guess the only negative that concerns me coming out of last nights game is the amount of errors starting to increase in Reece Walsh's game. Other than the few things he did really well.......you could argue he had a shocker last night.
His enthusiasms....could bite us on the arse soon.
I agree. Great players do the spectacular, but they also do the simple.
Something he needs to work on, not every pass needs to be Hollywood.

That win was setup when we were under the pump for a good 10mins in the first half. Eels were turning up in defense and we were struggling to get out of our 30m line. We weathered that and went down and scored which broke their backs and rolled them.
This.

Not conceding in that period was crucial.

I have been impressed the most in our wins against Roosters and now Parramatta.

Both games the opposition came out prepared to win the middle and both teams have the pack, however we not only matched them, we had them beaten at half-time. We will need to be able to do it for longer to beat a team like Penrith but there's no reason we can't.

The way things are unfolding if we do win the minor premiership there's a good chance we will face the storm in the first week of the final at Suncorp.
If we beat them in the final round (which we will have to do to finish first) then we will have to beat them again a week later.
If we can do that I don't think anything, maybe even winning the GF, could ever top that for me....
As some have already pointed out, beating Melbourne, the final frontier if you will, is purely a mental thing for Brisbane, but it needn't be.

Melbourne find themselves in the position this year of being too reliant on Nelson and Kamikamica to hold the middle, as opposed to previous season's where their main role has been to provide impact and energy. Kevvie will have identified this and he'll know that, provided Haas and Carrigan can weather those first 20-30 minutes, (which they frequently do so well) Brisbane's superior bench rotations will see them through.

Hasn't NAS been playing on an edge lately? He looks gassed after a couple of runs lately. Always good for a dog shot, but I could see us easily getting on his outside and going around and through him.

He already said he is going, which is cool, from what I've seen he is all about QLD, Broncos and Warriors so you know he understands the best of the modern game lol, from my bias perspective that is literally the trio of most watchable rugby league in 2023.

Tell him about BHQ 😶

Also, I've been saying it for a while and by no means the only one doing so, Mariner just has something special. I honestly would not be against him keeping that wing spot from now. This is no negative comment about Arthars or Oates, both of them are phenomenal players, Arthars especially this year but Mariner just has something extra. I said to my mate who I was watching it with last night, there is actually quite a bit of JYY in him. So fast, so agile and deceptively strong, just knows how to find the try line. He's special, very very special.
I agree there is something special there but no way over oates, and I still think arthurs is in front of him.

Oates metres out of our end are still such an asset. We had a few sets in a row where we were only got to our 40m, we get to our 50m with Oates. Doesn't sound like a big difference but against the panthers and in finals it's huge to be able to wrestle some momentum back.

Mariner needs another off season to get ahead of arthurs too. While mariners special, he seems to get pushed back a fair bit. If arthurs was doing what he's doing now but he was 19 ppl would be going crazy for him, yet he's still young in his career anyway. I genuinely think mariner might have a fight on his hands to get the spot off him.
