THE Broncos insist Origin lock Josh McGuire will be fit for Saturday’s blockbuster clash with the Roosters following his mysterious departure from training on Monday morning.
McGuire walked off the Broncos’ training field at Red Hill just five minutes into the session following a discussion with coach Wayne Bennett.
The official line from the Broncos was McGuire was ill and left the field for treatment.
However his availability for the Allianz Stadium showdown with the Roosters will be crucial to Brisbane’s chances of securing a home final.
“He is probably sore, he puts the body on the line during the week,” Broncos prop Matt Lodge said of McGuire.
“Sometimes he can roll into a session sore but we don’t mind because he rips in.”
The seventh-placed Broncos held a varied training session which even included a game of Australian rules football.
The Broncos have a long turnaround after shocking South Sydney 38-18 last Thursday night and Bennett was looking to keep them fresh ahead of a clash with the second-placed Roosters.
“It was a bit tough,” Lodge said of the Aussie rules session.
“It’s a bit of fun, but I probably won’t take up the sport.
“Tevita (Pangai) and I will probably stay away from AFL.”

@Kyall

Crucial to our chances of securing a home final? Nah. Not really.

Also, Boyd Cordner was charged but it's only a Grade One. He will be free to play with the early plea.

Ha ha..I called one, 100% correctly. I'm on fire :)

Aussie Rules session? Maybe Milf and Kodi will finally attempt to utilize the giant we have sitting on the wing

Your comment came a week late :P

You think I meant by passing to him? Or handballing if we want to be AFL relevant. I obviously meant by kicking it to him

Milf got a try assist via a bomb to Oates against the Bunnies m8. I agree it should happen considerably more often though.

To be fair, that kick was in front of our second rower. I want to see them do it like they used to use Folau.

Bit hard these days when every team has blockers for that very reason

Some still manage to get the ball or put massive pressure on the defence. Even if they catch it, they have to work it out of their own corner. Roosters often do it with Ferguson or Tupou, or Melbourne with Vunivalu not long ago.

How is it not at least grade 2? Joke of a sport. Be better run by the local bowls club. No officials should be in Sydney. Move them to Gosford or somewhere and recruit an English ref boss and former judge as head of judiciary. Not even trying to look independent at this point...

Of course you're right, it definitely should have seen him miss one to two weeks but it's the normal Sydney club grading. I fucking knew it in my bones and the bias is real just as the favouritism is and the agenda to nobble the powerhouse that Qld has become.

I was obviously referring to the try Oates scored from a kick on the weekend. :)

The one that was kicked in front of Alex Glenn? Yeah that still doesn't count.

Cordner's tackle wasn't worthy of a Grade 2.

It wasn't even that bad. The only thing wrong with it was the fact that Bateman slightly went above the horizontal. He doesn't even go head first into the ground.

I love to bag out the MRC as much as anyone but this isn't some conspiracy because it's a Sydney club. The MRC are consistent with giving those tackles a Grade 1 regardless of who they play for.
