It's something that needs to stop if the NRL are going to continue taking millions from gambling companies.

There's a lot of money involved in gambling, so there needs to be a lot more transparency. But the NRL either don't realize this or they just don't care.

I can understand unexpected things happening like COVID or family emergencies etc, but mostly teams just exploit it like they do everything else, because it's all about gaining some kind of advantage.

Either way, it's still a shit system that needs quite a few tweaks.

It is simpler than all of that, it is simply that the NRL are incompetent, don't engage in meaningful implementation of reviews or review recommendations and most importantly, are too scared to say no to scary club reps like Matt Tripp, Todd Payten, Trent Robinson and Phil Gould.

The easier thing to enforce is that the 17/18 has to be finalised 24hr before kick off.

Captain's run is finalised at that point and the only way you can change from the 17 you've named is actual unforeseen circumstances, because they aren't training anymore after captain's run.

The current system is fucking garbage and it's so fucking petty seeing coaches playing stupid games and not having to finalise until 1hr before kick off.

Yeah the whole point was to have transparency for the punters and fantasy coaches. Originally they were going to be strict and if you didn't name an adequate replacement too bad. However the NRL gave clubs the wriggle room like unforseen circumstance, so if a player who was 50/50 on Tuesday suffered another set-back that was enough for them to bring in another player outside the 22, defeating purpose.

It was like the development player situation where clubs had to have exhausted every option before they could play a development player. In the end it basically just amounted to if the first two players on the depth chart were unavailable it was free reign. It didn't matter if the club had played another player out of position, they could bring in said development or train & trial player and it was all hunky dory.

Even when they extended the squads to 24 this year for COVID, clubs were still announcing players outside of it at the last minute.
I recall the NRL being strong early on and refusing to allow coaches to bring in players from outside the 21 named, but I think something happened reasonably early in the whole thing where a player actually did get injured in Captain's run or something and the NRL refused to let them replace him with someone outside the 21, because they had a comparable player in the named squad... and I think it became a media storm.

Teams have always been allowed to put in a request to get a player from outside the 21, but it had to be like for like.. I'm assuming now the NRL will just grant whatever request is put in front of them, because they don't want to rock the cart and be a media target by preventing a coach from replacing a player with whoever they want.

I think NRL have still been pretty strong on not letting star players return from outside the 21... they will often get named in the 21 as they're nearing a comeback and come in 1hr before kick off, but I can't recall a star or regular starter coming into the gameday side from outside the 21... and that was one of the main things the NRL wanted to stop from happening.

You play where you’re needed to, if he can’t take it he gets shipped out.
Depends on whether you want that player in your squad. If you want Herbie to stay so you promise him a crack at fullback and then sign another fullback then he no longer has a reason to stay and voila! he's gone.

It's going to be Walsh.

Herbie is no doubt going to play in the WC, along with Cobbo, so they're going to have a shortened pre-season and Kevvie has already indicated that's going to work against them because he wants whoever is playing fullback to have a full pre-season there.

I don't think this Herbie wanting to play fullback thing is as serious as people are making it out. I think he's keen to play fullback, like any back would, but I think he'll be just as fine playing centre for another season.
I don't get the constant stream of backs these days always wanting to be fullback or play in the halves. Is it just they want fullback/halves money or is there more to it? Great wingers score lots of tries and win games for their team and great centres dictate in defence and attack. I know Hodges played fullback a little but I never heard him saying he would find another team if he wasn't given a shot at fb - and he was a career centre who was one of our greatest.

Pretty sure that was one of the reasons Hodges left to go to the Roosters to play Fullback.

Money, status and fun.

Double the money being a good fullback vs other backs.

You get all the glory and status of being a key player instead of just another cog.

It's also fun as ****, you do bugger all tackling, and get to chime in on the big plays and basically run the team.

But yeah, it's stupid, everyone wants to be a fullback even at the expense of their own careers. It wouldn't surprise me if it was player managers pushing their clients to whinge until they get fullback.

I'll be interested to see the type of footy we play this weekend. We need to win- no questions asked so they should have good energy and intensity. Although to really give our chances a boost we need to win by 50.

Will they stick to their typcial style of play? Or acknowledge we are probably missing finals and nothing to loose so just go for broke and hope we put a score on the Dragons?

From my perspective, as much as the raiders like a good choke, i can't see them losing to the tigers. So I'd like to see our forwards play a really physical first 20 and then we throw the ball around and try and score some points. Wouldn't even be upset to see us open with the play we put on against Melbourne with that early kick. See if we can get some early tries and just break them and open the flood gates.

The Knights did have the raiders rattled for 40 mins a few weeks ago but i honestly think we need a 54-0 flogging of the dragons to have any shot here.

I think you play the percentages here. Grind out any win you can and hope the Raiders fall apart.

Trying to outscore a Raiders win (which will take a 44 point win minimum)is asking to lose.

From Carrigans interview, I seems like we are focusing on our defense to try and keep them to 0, and let the attacking handle itself.

I reckon they will try and have a solid first half, and if they have a nice lead go all out in the 2nd.

I reckon we'll suck both halves and go out in embarassing fashion then we'll have 100 preseason stories about how the boys are training the house down.

Hope I'm wrong though, would be nice to at least finish on a positive.

Finish? This isn't the end. It's the start of our finals run!

I've told the kids that for fathers day I want the Tigers to win, so at least that's all sorted.

Extended bench. RK comes in to the actual bench
It's a good thing I reckon. Rhys will have a last game but of course KW will be an idiot and play Haas way too long so RK won't touch a ball until it's far far too late or we're still a chance.

A workhorse by demand but if he was given greater latitude earlier on and more opportunities I believe he would have created many more chances for productive second phase plays.

I had a wet dream, we beat the Dragons comfortably 54-4, Gamble had a stormer! Having that bit of fire back in the team, then tigers just got over the Raiders in a close one to keep our finals hopes alive. We then miraculously went on a run to face the Panthers in the big show the grand final!, everyone wrote us off even most of us did, well it ended up going down to the wire it was locked up at 16-16 at the 64th minute. It come to the 70th minute Koroisau made a break down the left side getting it onto a raging Kikau who crashed over the line, it was then 20-16, Cleary missed the kick!.
Short kick off we regained possession, come to the 4th play that set, Gamble sets Herbie up YES Herbie came back for the finals, with a cross kick landing right in his gasp to score , all locked up at 74th minute, Reynold kicks it to make it 22-20. Panthers try to go short we regain possession though, taking it slow we get to near the sticks, Gamble yes GAMBLE gets it slotting then field goal and being best on ground that night to get the CLIVE CHURCHILL MEDAL!!..

THEN I WOKE UP. Lol

@1910 is there a reason piakura wasn’t named for norths this weekend? Thought we’d be pushing for him to play the finals with them

Looks like he’s been called into the first grade team - extended bench

You just know Ben Hunt will put in 2015/origin performance for this one.
So many discarded Broncos including a sacked coach who all want nothing more then us to miss out on the 8.
We need to win & win big.
